Darren a masculine given name of uncertain etymological origins. Some theories state that it originated from an anglicization of the Irish firstname Darragh or Dáire meaning "oak tree". According to other theories, it is a variant of Darrell, which originated from the French surname D'Airelle meaning "of Airelle". The common spelling of Darren is found in the Welsh language, meaning Edge, and is commonly featured in place-names found in remote areas of Wales, typically noting a sharp fall or cliff edge. Examples include Black Darren and Red Darren which are found on the eastern side of the Hatterrall ridge, west of Long town. Darren has several spelling variations including: Daren, Darin, Daryn, Darrin, and Darryn.
In the United Kingdom, its popularity peaked during the 1970s but declined sharply afterwards.
The name Darren can be found in Half Man Half Biscuit song 'Totnes Bickering Fair' in the line of lyrics; "Not long now before lollipop men are called Darren"
The name is frequently shortened to Daz or Dazza.
Note: In the first book, Cirque Du Freak/Cirque Du Freak: A Living Nightmare, "Darren" says he used no real names in the books. These are just the names used by him in substitution of the real names of the key players in his life (he does this for their protection and in fear of being discovered for his true self).

http://artsblog.dallasnews.com/files/2013/03/IMG_3332.jpg I arrived in Amsterdam at 6am following a 10 hour bus, running from heartbreak in Paris. I couldn't find my friends and didn't know where I would sleep, so I started playing. My voice fell flat on the grassy plain, disappearing in the morning fog. That's when I spied the obelisk: rust and steel, rising beside the Van Gogh museum. I stepped inside and bounced my voice off the walls. Soon, people took pictures, children ran around inside, a young couple invited me for coffee. We went to the Rose center cafe, a lady asked me to play a song, and suddenly I was performing a concert for the next 4 hours for tips.
