Vic
Vic (Catalan pronunciation: [ˈbik]) is the capital of the comarca of Osona, in the Barcelona Province, Catalonia, Spain. Vic's location is 69 km from Barcelona and 60 km from Girona. Vic's position has made it one of the most important towns in central Catalonia.
Geography
Vic lies in the middle of the Plain of Vic, equidistant from Barcelona and the Pyrenees.
Vic is famous for its persistent fog in winter as a result of a persistent thermal inversion with temperatures as low as -10 °C and an absolute record of -24 °C. Episodes of cold and severe snowstorms are noticeable. In summer, storms are very common during the dry season, typical of the Mediterranean climate of coastal Catalonia. For that reason the natural vegetation includes the pubescent oak typical of the sub-Mediterranean climates of eastern France, Northern Italy and the Balkans.
History
Vic is of ancient origin. In past times it was called Ausa by the Romans. Iberian coins bearing this name have been found there. The Visigoths called it Ausona. Sewage caps on sidewalks around the city will also read "Vich," an old form of the name.

Vic Tayback
Victor "Vic" Tayback (January 6, 1930 – May 25, 1990) was an American actor.
Life and career
Tayback was born in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, the son of Helen (née Hanood) and Najeeb James Tayback. His parents were immigrants from Aleppo, Syria. Tayback moved with his family to Burbank, California, during his teenage years and attended Burbank High School. He ended up living in the area for the rest of his life, eventually moving to nearby Glendale, California, where he resided until his death.
A life member of The Actors Studio, Tayback was a familiar face on television in the 1960s and 70s, appearing on numerous shows as a character actor. Two notable appearances were in the "Et tu, Archie?" fourth season episode of All in the Family as Archie's old friend, Joe Tucker, and as the 1930s style gangster-boss 'Jojo Krako' in the Star Trek episode "A Piece of the Action".
Tayback's most famous role was diner owner Mel Sharples in both the 1974 movie Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore and in the television series, Alice, which ran from 1976 to 1985. He was the only actor of the original film to reprise his role in the series. (Film co-star Diane Ladd joined Alice mid-series playing a different character, and Alfred Lutter reprised his film role as Tommy for the pilot episode only.)

VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA: TRAVEL DIARY 2015
My first video, a compilation of footage from my trip to Victoria, BC at the beginning of summer break, 2015 before I leave on exchange to Sweden. I went whale watching twice with Prince of Whales (located in Victoria's Downtown Harbour) and saw killer whales/orca whales both trips (as well as other wildlife like seals and sea lions), went out on my grandparents boat from Royal Victoria Yacht Club, drove up past Duncan to the Cowichan Valley to visit my great aunt, and had a great time exploring my favourite city in the world.

Peninsula Hot Springs are a unique and invigorating experience in the rolling hills of the Mornington Peninsula. They source the mineral water from natural hot springs 637m below ground. This water comes out at a warm 50°C and then is cooled down to various temperatures between 37°C and 43°C so everyone can find a pool at a temperature that is comfortable for them. The thermal waters in these pools are also full of minerals and are considered to have healing qualities for the body. There are over 20 different styles of bathes and pools to choose from and you can even indulge in their private bathing area. We did that with a bottle of bubbly. They even have a Hamam, Turkish Steam Room, where you can purchase the salts from reception and do the scrub amongst friends, or organise a group ...

A historic, Victorian-era Scottish Baronial mansion. The "bonanza castle" was designated a National Historic Site of Canada due to its landmark status in Victoria. Has 39 rooms and over 25,000 square feet (2,300 m2). Constructed in the late 1800s as a family residence for the wealthy coal baron Robert Dunsmuir and his wife Joan.
03. Butchart Gardens
A group of floral display gardens in Brentwood Bay. Receive close to a million visitors each year. The gardens have been designated a National Historic Site of Canada due to their international renown.
04. Miniature World
Miniature-themed dioramas and displays representing historical times and fictional worlds. Over 85 exciting miniature dioramas and displays. One of the most popular tourist attractions in downtown.
05. Beacon Hill Park
A 75 ha (200 acre) park located along the shore of Juan de Fuca Strait. Contains a number of amenities including woodland and shoreline trails, two playgrounds, a waterpark, playing fields, a petting zoo, tennis courts, many ponds, and landscaped gardens.
06. Victoria Bug Zoo
A two-room minizoo that is located in downtown. Exhibits about 50 species of insects, arachnids, and Myriapoda. Currently the largest tropical insect collection in North America. Visitors can hold and handle different varieties of species like tarantulas, cockroaches, scorpions, walking sticks, millipedes, and praying mantis. Has Canada's largest ant farm that contains leaf-cutter ants.
07. Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Site
The first lighthouse on the west coast of Canada. Was built in 1860 to guide vessels through the entrance of Esquimalt harbour. It was named after HMS Fisgard, a British Navy ship that spent time in the Pacific. Designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1958. Also a Classified Federal Heritage Building.
08. British Columbia Aviation Museum
The Museum consists of a display area spread over two hangars, a classroom, a restoration workshop and a gift shop. Displays include historical civilian and military artefacts including uniforms, medals and models. Located in Sidney, British Columbia, Canada. It is on the grounds of the Victoria International Airport.
09. Thunderbird Park
A park in Victoria next to the Royal British Columbia Museum. Home to many totem poles (mostly Gitxsan, Haida, and Kwakwaka'wakw) and other First Nation monuments. Totem poles were first erected on the site in 1940 as part of a conservation effort to preserve some of the region's rapidly deteriorating Aboriginal art.

"Alice" actress Beth Howland is dead, her husband Charles Kimbrough revealed Tuesday. She was 74.
Howland died on Dec. 31 after a battle with lung cancer, Kimbrough told The New York Times. According to the newspaper, he waited to announce her death because of an unusual request by Howland not to say anything earlier; no funeral was held, either, as she wished.
"It was the Boston side of her personality coming out. She didn't want to make a fuss," Kimbrough, who starred on TV's "Murphy Brown," said.
Howland famously played accident-prone Mel's Diner waitress Vera Louise Gorman on the CBS sitcom that ran from 1976 to 1985. The role was played by Valerie Cutin in Martin Scorsese's 1974 movie, "Alice Doesn't Live Her Anymore," but Howland's comedic performance shined as she earned four Golden Globe nominations for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television.
The series also starred Linda Lavin as Alice Hyatt, Vic Tayback as Mel Sharples, Philip McKeon as Tommy Hyatt, and Polly Holliday as Flo Castleberry.
According to TV Line, Howland also performed on Broadway and appeared on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," "Murder She Wrote," "Sabrina The Teenage Witch" and "The Tick." Her last acting credit was voicing a character on Nickelodeon's "As Told by Ginger" in 2002.
Howland is survived by Kimbrough and a daughter from a previous marriage to actor Michael J. Pollard ("Scrooged," "Tango & Cash").
