NOPD is investigating the fatal shooting of a 25-year-old male and a 23-year-old pregnant female. It happened last night at 12151 in the parking lot of the Wind Run Apartments at Interstate 10 Service Road.
Around 9:57 p.m., officers responded to a call of shots fired in the parking lot. Upon arrival, the officers discovered the 25-year-old male victim down in the driver seat and the 23-year-old pregnant female victim down in the front passenger seat of a blue 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser. Both victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds to their bodies. They were both pronounced dead on the scene.
Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible in this incident, as well as a motive.
Homicide Detective Joseph Jefferson is in charge of the investigation and can be reached at 658-5300.

New Orleans police on Wednesday (March 30) released body-worn camera recordings of officers fatally shooting two people last year. The previously unreleased recordings depict the Jan. 7 killing of Omarr Jackson in Central City and the April 28 fatal shooting of Jared Johnson in New Orleans East.
Jackson, 37, was struck by gunfire from officer Matthew Bencik, who with partner Devin Ashmore approached Jackson's disabled truck around 11 p.m. at the intersection of Josephine and Lasalle streets. Two other people were inside the truck at the time, police said, but Jackson tried to run after being asked to step out of the vehicle.
According to police, Jackson fired a pistol at the officers. Bencik returned fire.
Assistant District Attorney Christopher Bowman said prosecutors did not find sufficient evidence to pursue criminal charges against Bencik. Bencik has since returned to full duty by police
Police fatally shot Johnson, 21, while responding to a reported armed robbery at a Dollar General on Chef Menteur Highway. Johnson and another man, identified by police as Halbert Adams, ran out the store's rear door, where they were met by officers Clifford Thompson and Joshua Carthon. The officers were "forced to fire their weapons," Police Superintendent Michael Harrison said at the time. Johnson was hit multiple times. Adams managed to escape, only to surrender the next day.

Police
A police force is a constituted body of persons empowered by the state to enforce the law, protect property, and limit civil disorder. Their powers include the legitimized use of force. Policing has included an array of activities in different situations, but the predominant ones are concerned with the preservation of order. In some societies, in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, these developed within the context of maintaining the class system and the protection of private property. Many police forces suffer from police corruption to a greater or lesser degree. The police force is usually a public sector service, meaning they are paid through taxes.

New Orleans police on Wednesday (March 30) released body-worn camera recordings of officers fatally shooting two people last year. The previously unreleased recordings depict the Jan. 7 killing of Omarr Jackson in Central City and the April 28 fatal shooting of Jared Johnson in New Orleans East.
Jackson, 37, was struck by gunfire from officer Matthew Bencik, who with partner Devin Ashmore approached Jackson's disabled truck around 11 p.m. at the intersection of Josephine and Lasalle streets. Two other people were inside the truck at the time, police said, but Jackson tried to run after being asked to step out of the vehicle.
According to police, Jackson fired a pistol at the officers. Bencik returned fire.
Assistant District Attorney Christopher Bowman said prosecutors did not find sufficient evidence to pursue criminal charges against Bencik. Bencik has since returned to full duty by police

Johnson and another man, identified by police as Halbert Adams, ran out the store's rear door, where they were met by officers Clifford Thompson and Joshua Carthon. The officers were "forced to fire their weapons," Police Superintendent Michael Harrison said at the time. Johnson was hit multiple times. Adams managed to escape, only to surrender the next day.

New Orleans police have arrested a man for shouting slurs at officers, charging him with a hate crime under Louisiana’s unique “Blue Lives Matter” law. This the first case involving the new statute protecting cops, firefighters and emergency responders. Raul Delatoba was arrested early Labor Day morning after a reports came in of a drunk man banging on a window of the Royal Sonesta Hotel, located in the city’s French Quarter.Two Louisiana State Troopers showed up at the scene in order to restrain Delatoba, 34, who refused to comply with requests to stop, and instead started shouting obscenities against hotel staff, witnesses and the police. Bernie Porche DashCam Shootout With NOPD
New Orleans police released dashcam video showing the Bernie Porche shooting from last month. Police say Mr.Porche ran across the street firing shots at New Orleans police and a state trooper. Police officers Gregory Rotton and Benjamin Williams immediately return fire and wound the suspect. After a few moments the suspect then raises his handgun and shoots himself. Police released this video to stop any doubts about how Porche died, however people are still questioning the events that lead up to the shooting. According to the authorities Mr. Porche and two other men had stolen a 2015 Toyota Camry and refused to surrender when confronted by police. New Orleans police have arrested a man for shouting slurs at officers, charging him with a hate crime under Louisiana’s unique “Blue Lives Matter” law. This the first case involving the new statute protecting cops, firefighters and emergency responders.
Raul Delatoba was arrested early Labor Day morning after a reports came in of a drunk man banging on a window of the Royal Sonesta Hotel, located in the city’s French Quarter.Two Louisiana State Troopers showed up at the scene in order to restrain Delatoba, 34, who refused to comply with requests to stop, and instead started shouting obscenities against hotel staff, witnesses and the police.
He was taken to the police station, where he continued to verbally "attack members of the New Orleans Police Department," according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
Delatoba allegedly called an African-American male officer a “dumb n****r” and a female police officer a “dumb c**t.”
The suspect ended up being charged with a variety of offenses, including simple criminal damage to property, disturbing the peace, and a felony-level hate crime for his use of racial insults against police.
Delatoba is believed to be the first person to be charged under the so-called “Blue Lives Matter” law, which the state adopted in May. It went into effect August 1, following a string of attacks on police officers, first in Dallas, Texas and then in Baton Rouge just days later.
"The hate crime charge stems from Delatoba attack on individuals based on their race, sex and occupation," an arrest warrant stated, according to the Times-Picayune.
In many states, hate crime laws make it unlawful for any person to target anyone based on race, age, gender, religion, color, disability or sexual orientation. However, Louisiana has taken its hate crime law a step further by specifically including police officers, firefighters and emergency medical service personnel.
However, the director of the Anti-Defamation League for Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas, told the Times-Picayune that Delatoba’s behavior may not fall under the statute.
“While it’s horrible that the law enforcement officers had to encounter this behavior and hear these epithets, it’s not illegal,” Allison Padilla-Goodman said.
She said it can be difficult to prove the hate crime, because the key is to convince the jury that Delatoba’s actions were motivated by hate. Should it happen that the prosecution is able to prove the man’s motives, he will be facing up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Assistant District Attorney Christopher Bowman, the spokesman for Orleans Parish District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro’s Office, has reportedly not yet decided if prosecutors were going to pursue the hate crime charges against Delatoba.
"Based up on that review, the office will make a determination whether or not to initiate formal charges, and which charges to initiate," Bowman said, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
For now, Delatoba's bond is set at $15,000, including $10,000 for the hate crime charge and $2,500 for each of the charges, one of disturbing the peace and one of simple criminal damage to property.

New Orleans Police Department 2005 'Evening In Blue' Concert pt 1
In August 2005, just prior to 'Hurricane Katrina', the New Orleans Police Department put on it's 2nd Annual 'Evening In Blue' Concert at the Mahalia Jackson Theater of Performing Arts located in Armstrong Park. The concert was sponsored by the New Orleans Police Foundation which assist fatally wounded fallen police officers' families and also injured police officers. All participants connected with the concert, singers, back ground singers and band members are police officers. Special guests appearing and performing are Orleans Parish Coroner Frank Minyard and New Orleans very own, violinist Michael Ward, who is also an Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff. The concert was MC'd by Channel 26 News personality, Mr. Glenn Boyd.

All participants connected with the concert, singers, back ground singers and band members are police officers. Special guests appearing and performing are Orleans Parish Coroner Frank Minyard and New Orleans very own, violinist Michael Ward, who is also an Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff. The concert was MC'd by Channel 26 News personality, Mr. Glenn Boyd.
