Boko Haram, referred to by themselves as Wilāyat Gharb Ifrīqīyyah (Arabic: الولاية الإسلامية غرب أفريقيا, (Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP), and Jamā'at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da'wah wa'l-Jihād (Arabic: جماعة أهل السنة للدعوة والجهاد, "Group of the People of Sunnah for Preaching and Jihad"), is an Islamic extremist group based in northeastern Nigeria, also active in Chad, Niger and northern Cameroon. The group's leader is Abubakar Shekau. The group had alleged links to al-Qaeda, but in March 2015, it announced its allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). Since the current insurgency started in 2009, it has killed 20,000 and displaced 2.3 million from their homes.
After its founding in 2002, Boko Haram's increasing radicalization led to a violent uprising in July 2009 in which its leader was summarily executed. Its unexpected resurgence, following a mass prison break in September 2010, was accompanied by increasingly sophisticated attacks, initially against soft targets, and progressing in 2011 to include suicide bombings of police buildings and the United Nations office in Abuja. The government's establishment of a state of emergency at the beginning of 2012, extended in the following year to cover the entire northeast of Nigeria, led to an increase in both security force abuses and militant attacks.
North is a noun, adjective, or adverb indicating direction or geography. North is one of the four cardinal directions or compass points. It is the opposite of south and is perpendicular to east and west.
The word north is related to the Old High German nord, both descending from the Proto-Indo-European unit ner-, meaning "down" (or "under"). (Presumably a natural primitive description of its concept is "to the left of the rising sun".)
The Latin word borealis comes from the Greek boreas "north wind, north", which, according to Ovid, was personified as the son of the river-god Strymon, the father of Calais and Zetes. Septentrionalis is from septentriones, "the seven plow oxen", a name of Ursa Maior. The Greek arktikos is named for the same constellation, and is the derivation of the English word "Arctic".
Other languages have sometimes more interesting derivations. For example, in Lezgian, kefer can mean both 'disbelief' and 'north', since to the north of the Muslim Lezgian homeland there are areas formerly inhabited by non-Muslim Caucasian and Turkic peoples. In many languages of Mesoamerica, "north" also means "up". In Hungarian the word for north is észak, which is derived from éjszaka ("night"), since above the Tropic of Cancer, the Sun never shines from the north.

Two Boko Haram female suicide bombers, coming from Nigeria’s village of Madawaya, were killed during an attempted attack on Homeaka-Blabline, situated in the vicinity of Mora, on May 9. Separately, unconfirmed reports indicate that one civilian was killed in the town of Vizi, situated near Gouzda Vreket following an attempted militant incursion during the night hours of May 9. Additionally, two soldiers were allegedly injured when driving along the Djibrili-Gouzda Vreket axis on May 10 as a result of a mine explosion. Finally, clashes between Cameroonian forces and Boko Haram gunmen were recorded in Kerawa on May 10, leaving two militants dead and two members of a local vigilante group injured.
Although the title sounds like some Arctic cold place, it is in fact from a very tropical Australian region. Sandwiched between two World Heritage Sites of the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics, my wife and I have been living in Tropical North Queensland for more than 10 years now. This part of the world has some of the most beautiful places on Earth. On the eastern side of the beach is the Pacific Ocean, hosting the largest coral reef system on the planet. On the land side is the world's oldest rainforest with the Daintree National Park. Then heading west after passing the narrow belt of lush green forests, the red of the Australian Outback greets you with dark skies that show millions of stars. This is a short timelapse journey from the Great Barrier Reef to the rainforest of the We...

Here is the full S/T album from the band Akasha. Akasha was a norwegian quintet who recorded only one album. This one. This is a strange but fascinating album from 1977. A cross between early Genesis and The Moody Blues. The Album was recorded on a TEAC 4-track machine by "BAT records" oct./nov. 1976 in bomb-proof cellar at a local hotel. The hotel was located in the far north region of Norway, Finnsnes. For more info regarding the meaning of the word Akasha in this setting, please contact me here on Youtube. The Boko Haram conflict started in Nigeria’s north east, specifically in Maiduguri, capital of Borno State. It has extended to other parts of Africa’s most populous country, further extension of the insurgency hit the Lake Chad region affecting Chad, Cameroon’s far north region and Niger. At the height of the insurgency, the Nigerian army was being pushed back by the insurgents’ firepower, but that has changed since Muhammadu Buhari assumed office last year. A better equipped army has ramped up its counter insurgency and has reported that Boko Haram is restricted to the infamous Sambisa forest. Subscribe this channel. A video of my son Christian and I backpacking in the spectacular far northern North Fork / Goat Haunt region of Glacier National Park. We did a 50 mile, 5-day out-and-back trip starting at Bowman Lake, over Brown Pass, Lake Francis, Goat Haunt, Kootenai Lake, and then returned over the same route. Like my 2013 video showing our trip on the 'Great Northern Loop' this is a long, hour+ video with a slideshow with pictures of the trip over the last 10 minutes. For those interested in all aspects of Glacier backpacking, including the Backcountry Permit Office experience, the video will probably be of more interest. If you just want a shorter taste of Glacier and our trip I think you'll enjoy the many HDR pictures at the end. This is a repost of my original video from August 2014. To make a lo...
