The American Elm cultivar Ulmus americana 'Ascendens' is a relatively old clone.
The tree has small, fastigiate lateral branches forming a narrow, oval head.
The clone's resistance to Dutch Elm Disease is not known, but the species is highly susceptible to the disease and Elm Yellows; it is also moderately preferred for feeding and reproduction by the adult Elm Leaf Beetle Xanthogaleruca luteola , and highly preferred for feeding by the Japanese Beetle Popillia japonica in the USA. U. americana is also the most susceptible of all the elms to verticillium wilt.
The tree is not known to have been cultivated beyond the USA.
Named in 1927 for a tree grown in Seneca Park, Rochester, New York.
Arnold Arboretum. Acc. no. 140-61.
Tomás Luis de Victoria (sometimes Italianised as da Vittoria; c.1548 – 27 August 1611) was the most famous composer in 16th-century Spain, and was one of the most important composers of the Counter-Reformation, along with Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina and Orlando di Lasso. Victoria was not only a composer, but also an accomplished organist and singer as well as a Catholic priest. However, he preferred the life of a composer to that of a performer.
Victoria was born in Sanchidrián in the province of Ávila, Castile around 1548 and died in 1611. Victoria's family can be traced back for generations. Not only are the names of the members in his immediate family known, but even the occupation of his grandfather. Victoria was the seventh of nine children born to Francisco Luis de Victoria and Francisca Suárez de la Concha. After his father's death in 1557, his uncle, Juan Luis, became his guardian. He was a choirboy in Ávila Cathedral. Cathedral records state that his uncle, Juan Luis, presented Victoria's Liber Primus to the Church while reminding them that Victoria had been brought up in the Ávila Cathedral. Because he was such an accomplished organist, many believe that he began studying the keyboard at an early age from a teacher in Ávila. Victoria most likely began studying "the classics" at St. Giles's, a boys' school in Ávila. This school was praised by St.Teresa of Avila and other highly regarded people of music.

The Collegio Teutonico (German College), historically often referred to by its Latin name Collegium Germanicum, is one of the Pontifical Colleges of Rome. It was established in 1399 and maintained at the Vatican for the education of future ecclesiastics of the Roman Catholic Church of German nationality. The German College is now divided into two separate colleges.
The Pontificio Collegio Teutonico di S. Maria dell’ Anima was created in 1399 when Theodoric of Niem founded a hospice for German pilgrims. A confraternity in aid of the suffering souls in purgatory was soon after formed, and in 1499 the first stone of the beautiful church, Santa Maria dell'Anima, was laid, near the Santa Maria della Pace. In 1859 this pia opera was reorganized; a college of chaplains to officiate in the church was established; the chaplains were to remain only two or at the most three years, and at the same time were to continue their studies. They devote themselves chiefly to canon law with a view to employing their knowledge in the service of their respective dioceses; and they receive living and tuition gratis. Other priests also are admitted who come to Rome at their own expense for the purpose of study. At present there are 8 chaplains and about 10 other priests residing there. The college continues to assist poor Germans who come to Rome, either to visit the holy places or in search of occupation.

"Ascendens Christus in altum" a 5 (Motecta, 1572) de TOMÁS LUIS DE VICTORIA (ca.1548-1611).
http://www.tytyga.com/product/Pond+Cypress+Tree Pond Cypress Trees, Taxodium ascendens are extraordinary plants with hard woody trunks that can grow with the roots submerged in the water, unlike most other plants. The roots can ascend from the water depths to form wrinkled, ornamental lamp stands that tourists to Georgia Swamps love to buy.
Drosera ascendens needs very cool temperatures year-round to do well (70 degrees F or less). It also prefers high humidity. A nightly temperature drop is preferred, as well. I've only managed to get it to this size after 2 years. It usually shrinks back in growth during the warmer months in my house during the summer.
