Northala Fields is an award-winning country-style park located in Northolt, Greater London. It was opened in 2008 and consists of four artificial hills standing next to the A40 Western Avenue, as well as several fishing lakes and a large field area. The hills were constructed using rubble from the demolition of the original Wembley Stadium, which was closed in 2000 and demolished in 2003. The park was created as part of the Northolt and Greenford Country Park project, and backs onto the older Rectory Park.
The name "Northala" is how the old manor of Northall (Northolt) was recorded in the Domesday book in 1086.
It is situated on what was the Royal Borough of Kensington Playing Fields after being leased to them in 1938. The section of the Ealing Road that formed the eastern perimeter was then renamed Kensington Road.
Commonwealth is a traditional English term for a political community founded for the common good. Historically it has sometimes been synonymous with "republic".
The English noun "commonwealth" in the sense meaning "public welfare; general good or advantage" dates from the 15th century. The original phrase "the common-wealth" or "the common weal" (echoed in the modern synonym "public weal") comes from the old meaning of "wealth", which is "well-being", and is itself a loose translation of the Latin res publica (republic). The term literally meant "common well-being". In the 17th century the definition of "commonwealth" expanded from its original sense of "public welfare" or "commonweal" to mean "a state in which the supreme power is vested in the people; a republic or democratic state". "Better things were done, and better managed ... under a Commonwealth than under a King." Pepys, Diary (1667)
Three countries – Australia, the Bahamas, and Dominica – have the official title "Commonwealth", as do four US states and two US territories. More recently, the term has been used for fraternal associations of some sovereign nations, most notably the Commonwealth of Nations, an association primarily of former members of the British Empire, which is often referred to as simply "the Commonwealth".
A stadium (plural stadiums or stadia) is a place or venue for (mostly) outdoor sports, concerts, or other events and consists of a field or stage either partly or completely surrounded by a tiered structure designed to allow spectators to stand or sit and view the event.
Pausanias noted that for about half a century the only event at the ancient Greek Olympic festival was the race that comprised one length of the stade at Olympia, where the word "stadium" originated.
"Stadium" is the Latin form of the Greek word "stadion" (στάδιον), a measure of length equalling the length of 600 human feet. As feet are of variable length the exact length of a stadion depends on the exact length adopted for 1 foot at a given place and time. Although in modern terms 1 stadion = 600 ft (180 m), in a given historical context it may actually signify a length up to 15% larger or smaller.
The equivalent Roman measure, the stadium, had a similar length — about 185 m (607 ft) - but instead of being defined in feet was defined using the Roman standard passus to be a distance of 125 passūs (double-paces).

The University of Kentucky (UK) is a public co-educational university in Lexington, Kentucky. Founded in 1865 by Isaiah Giles as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Kentucky, the university is one of the state's two land-grant universities (the other being Kentucky State University), the largest college or university in the state, with 29,385 students as of Fall 2013, and the highest ranked research university in the state according to U.S. News and World Report.
The institution comprises 16 colleges, a graduate school, 93 undergraduate programs, 99 master programs, 66 doctoral programs, and four professional programs. The University of Kentucky has fifteen libraries on campus. The largest is William T. Young Library, a federal depository, hosting subjects related to social sciences, humanities, and life sciences collections. In recent years, the university has focused expenditures increasingly on research, following a compact formed by the Kentucky General Assembly in 1997. The directive mandated that the university become a Top 20 public research institution, in terms of an overall ranking to be determined by the university itself, by the year 2020.

A short flight around the stadium, video feed was really bad so I cut it short. Put the Phantom 3 into follow-me mode, but it quit following me after a short time and when the battery went low it auto landed in the parking lot. Got REALLY lucky.

This is a brief time lapse of the asphalt removal occurring at Richmond's African Burial Ground, which was paved over by Virginia Commonwealth University and used as a parking lot during the past few years. Faced with protests from the local and national African American communities, the university returned the 3.4 acre lot to the city earlier this year. Future plans for the site are still unclear and an archaeological dig hopes to bring more information about the site to light.

The film was submitted by David Weir-McCall for the DAF 2012 competition. Designing for Sport looks at the legacy of the buildings constructed for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow – it proposes an energy generating dome as a ‘permanent’ public landmark that adapts to shifting climatic and use conditions underneath (stadium to college to park). The submission puts forth several smaller aluminium framed venues under a single roof (opposed to one large shared venue). The film focuses on the layered roof structure (grid shell dome) and the explored fibre optic panels.

JUST A PRETTY LANDFILL? Northala Fields is an award winning Country-style Park located in Northolt in the London Borough of Ealing, which opened to the Public in September 2008. The Park won a Green Flag Award in 2009. The innovative £5.5 million project began in 2000 with Ealing Council’s decision to transform derelict land alongside the A40 in Northolt which was once Kensington and Chelsea playing fields. The redevelopment of the 45-acre area was a necessity, as the area had become an eyesore. The four large conical earth mounds along the A40 edge of the site also help to reduce visual and noise pollution and provide a unique landmark for the park and the borough. In particular, the viewpoint on the top of the tallest mound (which is 22 metres) provides a 360-degree panoramic view of ...
