PEACOCK succeeded Beijing 100m champion Oscar PISTORIUS (RSA) as the man to beat in the T44 men's 100m with a superb start that saw him ahead after just 10m. It was a lead that he was never to relinquish despite being pressed hard all the way to the line, which he crossed in a Paralympic record of 10.90, just 0.05 away from his own world record set earlier this summer.The 19-year-old Briton showed his maturity by living up to all the expectations heaped on his young shoulders, as the roars of 'PEACOCK, PEACOCK' rang out around the Olympic Stadium prior to the gun being fired. "77 USA vs ITA 51
LONDON, 31 August
Jason NELMS netted a game-high 24 points for USA as they returned to winning ways with a 77-51 triumph over Italy.
Galliano MARCHIONNI opened the scoring for Italy but the USA dominated the initial exchanges with NELMS netting four points. MARCHIONNI levelled the game at 10-10 but a three-point play from NELMS gave USA a narrow advantage at the end of the first period.
NELMS opened the second quarter with another three-point basket and bagged six more points in the quarter before being subbed with USA leading 22-14.
Italy's Fabio RAIMONDI grabbed five points to reduce the deficit, and Amine MOUKHARIQ (ITA) levelled the match at 27-27 but USA took a 37-30 lead into half-time as NELMS returned to the court to grab four more points.
Trevon JENIFER (USA) rounded off a sweeping move to put USA 43-32 up early in the third and forward Joshua TUREK contributed 10 points to the quarter as they moved 14 points clear at 57-43.
And the victory was complete thanks to some fine individual work from Nate HINTZE (USA) in the final quarter as he added 12 points, taking his tally to 22 for the match.
It was a disciplined USA performance compared with Italy, who gave away 29 free throws during the game.

The London 2012 Paralympic Games Closing Ceremony saw Coldplay, one of Britain's best selling music acts, joined by global superstars Rihanna and Jay-Z in a spectacular celebration of achievements of the Paralympic athletes and an amazing summer of sport.
Celebrating the seasonal cycle of ancient and modern festivals that take place throughout the year, world-class musical performances took the audience on a journey through Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer.
The ceremony also honoured servicemen and women, and particularly the work of charity Help for Heroes, with Captain Luke Sinnott, a double amputee, climbing to the top of the flag pole to hoist the Union Flag. A motorcade of weird and wonderful vehicles then stormed into the Olympic Stadium, as ex-serviceman Rory Mackenzie delivered a rousing speech.
The evening also saw the Paralympic Flag was handed over to Mayor of Rio de Janeiro Eduardo Paes, cueing a colourful musical performance by Rio 2016.
At the end of the night, as the Paralympic Flame began to fade, ParalympicsGB gold medallists Ellie Simmonds and Jonnie Peacock transferred the Flame to a Paralympic Torch. They then proceeded to light hundreds of torches held by members of the cast throughout the field of play before it was extinguished.
The ceremony ended with a spectacular fireworks display over the Olympic Stadium and Olympic Park, followed by fireworks along the River Thames.
Led by Closing Ceremonies Artistic Director Kim Gavin, Music Director David Arnold and Designer Misty Buckley, the Closing Ceremony was overseen by the same team of Executive Producers who have been in charge of all four Olympic and Paralympic Ceremonies, including Oscar-winning film director Stephen Daldry.

The first archery competition for those with physical impairments was held at the Stoke Mandeville Hospital in 1948, and it was one of the original Paralympic sports at the Rome 1960 Paralympic Games.
The sport has three different classifications and athletes in 54 countries are currently practicing archery. It is comprised of individual and team events in both standing and wheelchair competitions. Athletes shoot from a distance at a target marked with 10 scoring zones.
At the London 2012 Games, 140 athletes competed in nine different medal events.

The Paralympic Games are a major international multi-sport event where athletes with a physical disability compete; this includes athletes with mobility disabilities, amputations, blindness, and cerebral palsy. There are Winter and Summer Paralympic Games, which are held immediately following their respective Olympic Games. All Paralympic Games are governed by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).
The Paralympics have grown from a small gathering of British World War II veterans in 1948 to become one of the largest international sport events by the early 21st century. Paralympians strive for equal treatment with non-disabled Olympic athletes, but there is a large funding gap between Olympic and Paralympic athletes. There are also sports, such as track and field athletics, that are resistant to Paralympians who wish to compete equally with non-disabled athletes, though there have been Paralympians who have participated in the Olympic Games.
The Paralympic Games include athletes with physical disabilities, and are run in parallel with the Olympic Games, while the IOC–recognized Special Olympics World Games include athletes with intellectual disabilities, and the Deaflympics include deaf athletes.

The sport has three different classifications and athletes in 54 countries are currently practicing archery. It is comprised of individual and team events in both standing and wheelchair competitions. Athletes shoot from a distance at a target marked with 10 scoring zones. At the London 2012 Games, 140 athletes competed in nine different medal events. "77 USA vs ITA 51 LONDON, 31 August Jason NELMS netted a game-high 24 points for USA as they returned to winning ways with a 77-51 triumph over Italy. Galliano MARCHIONNI opened the scoring for Italy but the USA dominated the initial exchanges with NELMS netting four points. MARCHIONNI levelled the game at 10-10 but a three-point play from NELMS gave USA a narrow advantage at the end of the first period. NELMS opened the second quarter with another three-point basket and bagged six more points in the quarter before being subbed with USA leading 22-14. The London 2012 Paralympic Games Closing Ceremony saw Coldplay, one of Britain's best selling music acts, joined by global superstars Rihanna and Jay-Z in a spectacular celebration of achievements of the Paralympic athletes and an amazing summer of sport. Galliano MARCHIONNI opened the scoring for Italy but the USA dominated the initial exchanges with NELMS netting four points. MARCHIONNI levelled the game at 10-10 but a three-point play from NELMS gave USA a narrow advantage at the end of the first period.
NELMS opened the second quarter with another three-point basket and bagged six more points in the quarter before being subbed with USA leading 22-14.
Italy's Fabio RAIMONDI grabbed five points to reduce the deficit, and Amine MOUKHARIQ (ITA) levelled the match at 27-27 but USA took a 37-30 lead into half-time as NELMS returned to the court to grab four more points.
Trevon JENIFER (USA) rounded off a sweeping move to put USA 43-32 up early in the third and forward Joshua TUREK contributed 10 points to the quarter as they moved 14 points clear at 57-43.
And the victory was complete thanks to some fine individual work from Nate HINTZE (USA) in the final quarter as he added 12 points, taking his tally to 22 for the match.
It was a disciplined USA performance compared with Italy, who gave away 29 free throws during the game.

The London 2012 Paralympic Games Closing Ceremony saw Coldplay, one of Britain's best selling music acts, joined by global superstars Rihanna and Jay-Z in a spectacular celebration of achievements of the Paralympic athletes and an amazing summer of sport.
Celebrating the seasonal cycle of ancient and modern festivals that take place throughout the year, world-class musical performances took the audience on a journey through Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer.
The ceremony also honoured servicemen and women, and particularly the work of charity Help for Heroes, with Captain Luke Sinnott, a double amputee, climbing to the top of the flag pole to hoist the Union Flag. A motorcade of weird and wonderful vehicles then stormed into the Olympic Stadium, as ex-serviceman Rory Mackenzie delivered a rousing speech.
The evening also saw the Paralympic Flag was handed over to Mayor of Rio de Janeiro Eduardo Paes, cueing a colourful musical performance by Rio 2016.
At the end of the night, as the Paralympic Flame began to fade, ParalympicsGB gold medallists Ellie Simmonds and Jonnie Peacock transferred the Flame to a Paralympic Torch. They then proceeded to light hundreds of torches held by members of the cast throughout the field of play before it was extinguished.
The ceremony ended with a spectacular fireworks display over the Olympic Stadium and Olympic Park, followed by fireworks along the River Thames.
Led by Closing Ceremonies Artistic Director Kim Gavin, Music Director David Arnold and Designer Misty Buckley, the Closing Ceremony was overseen by the same team of Executive Producers who have been in charge of all four Olympic and Paralympic Ceremonies, including Oscar-winning film director Stephen Daldry.

The first archery competition for those with physical impairments was held at the Stoke Mandeville Hospital in 1948, and it was one of the original Paralympic sports at the Rome 1960 Paralympic Games.
The sport has three different classifications and athletes in 54 countries are currently practicing archery. It is comprised of individual and team events in both standing and wheelchair competitions. Athletes shoot from a distance at a target marked with 10 scoring zones.
At the London 2012 Games, 140 athletes competed in nine different medal events.

Egyptian aviation investigators confirmed a black box recording from EgyptAir flight MS804 from Paris to Cairo that plunged into the Mediterranean on May 19 and killed all 66 people aboard showed smoke onboard, BBC News reported Wednesday.
