El «Himno Olímpico» (en griego Ολυμπιακός Ύμνος) o también llamado «Himno del Comité Olímpico Internacional» es una pieza musical compuesta por Spyridon Samaras con palabras de un poema del griego Kostis Palamas. Se cantó por primera vez el 25 de marzo de 1896, por un coro compuesto por miembros de las sociedades musicales de Grecia, en la ceremonia inaugural de los I Juegos Olímpicos de Atenas 1896 en el Estadio Panathinaiko.

Κατά τις επόμενες Ολυμπιάδες, η εκάστοτε διοργανώτρια χώρα ανέθετε σε διάφορους συνθέτες τη σύνθεση ενός ξεχωριστού ύμνου. Το 1958 όμως ο ύμνος των Σαμάρα / Παλαμά επελέγη από την Διεθνή Ολυμπιακή Επιτροπή ως ο επίσημος ύμνος του Ολυμπιακού Κινήματος και από την Ολυμπιάδα της Ρώμης το 1960 ανακρούεται στις τελετές έναρξης και λήξης κάθε Ολυμπιάδας, συνήθως μεταγλωττισμένος στη γλώσσα της διοργανώτριας χώρας.
Η αρχική παρτιτούρα βρίσκεται στην έδρα της ΔΟΕ στη Λωζάνη.

Controla los derechos de transmisión de los juegos, la publicidad y demás actividades de acuerdo a la Carta Olímpica. Además es el organismo internacional encargado de organizar y seleccionar las ciudades que serán sedes de los Juegos Olímpicos cada 4 años.
Los JJOO se inician con el encendido de la Llama Olímpica y en ese momento es el inicio de la Olimpiada que terminará con el encendido de la siguiente a los 4 años.

STORYLINE
Themed as Peace Epic 2008, a best-wishes campaign for the London Olympics was launched in Beijing on Thursday as the 100 day countdown to the games began.
Starting on Thursday and ending in late July, the campaign involves wax statues of International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge and seven of his predecessors "collecting" best-wishes from (m) millions of Chinese people through Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter.
The wax figures will be sent to the IOC Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland, in July where they will go on show.
"We feel that it is a great honour for us that the IOC museum would accept this gift and put them for exhibition in Lausanne," said Zhang Molei, event organiser and President of the Chinese Great Men Wax Museum.
The eight wax figures were completed before the Beijing Olympics and have been on view in the Bird''s Nest Stadium for about four years.
Several (m) million visitors have been to the museum since it opened after the Beijing Games, according to museum staff.

The 1896 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the I Olympiad, was a multi-sport event held in Athens, Greece, from 6 to 15 April 1896. It was the first international Olympic Games held in the Modern era. Because Ancient Greece was the birthplace of the Olympic Games, Athens was considered to be an appropriate choice to stage the inaugural modern Games. It was unanimously chosen as the host city during a congress organised by Pierre de Coubertin, a French pedagogue and historian, in Paris, on 23 June 1894. The International Olympic Committee was also instituted during this congress.

All 10 people on two helicopters are killed after the aircraft collide during filming in northern Argentina.
(Sky News) Cast members filming a French reality show were among 10 people killed after two helicopters collided in mid-air in northern Argentina, according to officials.
Brushed aircraft in the air and immediately fell. One was from the province of La Rioja
and the other of Santiago del Estero. The accident occurred just after 17 , shortly after takeoff ,
300 km from the city of La Rioja, in the area of the three ranges.
"Apparently there was a collision between two ships with the result of ten people dead "
Commissioner confirmed César Angulo, Secretary of Security Rioja . The dead are the eight French
production program and two Argentines , pilots of each of the helicopters.

Demetrios Vikelas, or Bikelas (Greek: Δημήτριος Βικέλας; February 15, 1835 – July 20, 1908) was a Greek businessman and writer; he was the first president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), from 1894 to 1896.
After a childhood spent in Greece and Constantinople (now Istanbul), he found fortune in London, where he married. He then moved to Paris, on account of his wife. Abandoning business, he dedicated himself to literature and history, and published numerous novels, short stories and essays, which earned him a distinguished reputation. Because of his reputation and the fact that he lived in Paris, he was chosen to represent Greece in a congress called by Pierre de Coubertin in June 1894, which decided to re-establish the Olympic Games and to organise them in Athens in 1896, designating Vikelas to preside over the organisation committee. After the Games were over, he stepped down, remaining in Athens until his death in 1908.
Vikelas was born in Ermoupoli, on the island of Syros in Greece. His father was a merchant, originally from Veria, Macedonia (Greece) and his mother, Smaragda, was a member of the rich Melas family. He was educated at home by his mother, possibly due to his fragile health[citation needed]. When he was six, the family moved to Constantinople, and ten years after that to Odessa. There he started working for his father's business. Already he showed signs of his literary potential. At the age of 17 he translated Esther, a tragedy by Jean Racine.

The 1896 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the I Olympiad, was a multi-sport event held in Athens, Greece, from 6 to 15 April 1896. It was the first international Olympic Games held in the Modern era. Because Ancient Greece was the birthplace of the Olympic Games, Athens was considered to be an appropriate choice to stage the inaugural modern Games. It was unanimously chosen as the host city during a congress organised by Pierre de Coubertin, a French pedagogue and historian, in Paris, on 23 June 1894. Syros
Syros, or Siros or Syra is a Greek island in the Cyclades, in the Aegean Sea. It is located 78 nautical miles south-east of Athens. The area of the island is 83.6 km2 and it has 21,507 inhabitants. The largest towns are Ermoupoli, Ano Syros, and Vari. Ermoupoli is the capital of the island and of the Cyclades. Κατά τις επόμενες Ολυμπιάδες, η εκάστοτε διοργανώτρια χώρα ανέθετε σε διάφορους συνθέτες τη σύνθεση ενός ξεχωριστού ύμνου. Το 1958 όμως ο ύμνος των Σαμάρα / Παλαμά επελέγη από την Διεθνή Ολυμπιακή Επιτροπή ως ο επίσημος ύμνος του Ολυμπιακού Κινήματος και από την Ολυμπιάδα της Ρώμης το 1960 ανακρούεται στις τελετές έναρξης και λήξης κάθε Ολυμπιάδας, συνήθως μεταγλωττισμένος στη γλώσσα της διοργανώτριας χώρας.

El COI coordina las actividades del Movimiento Olímpico. Además está encargado de supervisar y administrar todo lo concerniente a los Juegos Olímpicos. Es dueña de todos los derechos asociados a los símbolos olímpicos, la bandera, himno, lema, juramento y los juegos. Controla los derechos de transmisión de los juegos, la publicidad y demás actividades de acuerdo a la Carta Olímpica. Además es el organismo internacional encargado de organizar y seleccionar las ciudades que serán sedes de los Juegos Olímpicos cada 4 años.
Los JJOO se inician con el encendido de la Llama Olímpica y en ese momento es el inicio de la Olimpiada que terminará con el encendido de la siguiente a los 4 años.

STORYLINE
Themed as Peace Epic 2008, a best-wishes campaign for the London Olympics was launched in Beijing on Thursday as the 100 day countdown to the games began.
Starting on Thursday and ending in late July, the campaign involves wax statues of International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge and seven of his predecessors "collecting" best-wishes from (m) millions of Chinese people through Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter.
The wax figures will be sent to the IOC Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland, in July where they will go on show.
"We feel that it is a great honour for us that the IOC museum would accept this gift and put them for exhibition in Lausanne," said Zhang Molei, event organiser and President of the Chinese Great Men Wax Museum.
The eight wax figures were completed before the Beijing Olympics and have been on view in the Bird''s Nest Stadium for about four years.
Several (m) million visitors have been to the museum since it opened after the Beijing Games, according to museum staff.

The 1896 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the I Olympiad, was a multi-sport event held in Athens, Greece, from 6 to 15 April 1896. It was the first international Olympic Games held in the Modern era. Because Ancient Greece was the birthplace of the Olympic Games, Athens was considered to be an appropriate choice to stage the inaugural modern Games. It was unanimously chosen as the host city during a congress organised by Pierre de Coubertin, a French pedagogue and historian, in Paris, on 23 June 1894. The International Olympic Committee was also instituted during this congress.
