So I decided to film this video because I have searched for a good sideburn video and never found one that I liked. Like I said in the video I'm not 100% content with this method. That's because its hard to keep up with. I have to do this about once a week for it to not look weird due to the fast hair growth. We are talking all about sideburns today with men's style and grooming expert, Aaron marino of alpha m and http://www.iamalpham.com . Sideburns area an incredible way to add interest, detail, and dimension to your face as well as finish off a hair cut. But what makes a good sideburn? What sideburn is best with what face shape? What works best for you? There's a lot to consider.
First, Aaron Marino of alpha m. talks about sideburn trends. Having no sideburns looks funny as the hair style has no defining line where it stops. A little sideburn is required. Your hairstyle leads the way for the length and fullness of the sideburns. The sideburn should balance and compliment your hairstyle. If you have a short hairstyle, a long busy sideburn doesn't make sense- what makes sense is a longer hairstyle with those fuller and longer sideburns.
Another key aspect when determining the sideburns is genetics. Some of you have been growing luscious and thick facial hair since the 8th grade. Others, like Alpha, don't have fantastically even nor dense follicle activity. It wasn't until Alpha's 30s that he started materializing some sideburns. Genetics play a major role in what sideburn style you're able to wear.
The two aspects of sideburns that you should be most concerned about are length and width. Alpha describes the length categories: short, medium, long, and extra long. He also covers width which include conservative / standard as well as wider and thinner styles.
You can play with and experiment with sideburns to find something that you totally love. But when experimenting, consider your face shape. The four basic face shapes: round, square, oval, and triangular / heart. Reference this article about the best sideburns for face shapes. The idea is that you want to contrast and balance your face shape:
Round: slim with longer sideburns to elongate your face. Keep tight to face.
Oval: medium length and medium width. Avoid super long and super thin because they will make your face look longer.
Square: medium-to-long sideburn that is thinner. The visual illusion is a narrow jaw.
Triangular or heart: wider (standard) and longer sideburn which will strengthen your jaw.
Another tip: instead of cutting your sideburns straight across and blunt, give them a slight angle that follows your jawline. It all comes down to personal preference. Express your individual style and flair.

So obviously this isn't for everyone and is a personal choice. Just like some people like how they look with pierced ears and some don't. I don't like how mine look on me since they get EXTREMELY dark and thick and there isn't really a way to "trim" or "thin" them while keeping it look natural so I choose to get rid of them. I don't want it noticeable and I want it to look natural. So that's why I use an epilator and tweezers, that way it grows back natural looking and not 'stubbly' or thicker. I choose this method rather than others since it's easy to do yourself and it's more precise than other methods.
*The epilator I'm using is Emjoi's Epislim, and i bought it at Sally's Beauty Supply for around $20.

Step 1: Stop shaving
Stop shaving. Let your facial hair flourish untouched for a few days or weeks, depending on how hairy you are and how fast your hair grows.
Tip
Consider going on vacation to avoid going through the scruffy, transitional phase in full view of your coworkers.
Step 2: Pick a shape
Pick a shape for your sideburns. Do you want the "classic tab," which very discreetly extends only to about the midpoint of your ear? Or are you after the "full grizzly," which can reach as far down as your jaw line and stand off your face as high as you want?
Tip
If you have a long, thin face, create bushier sideburns to soften the angles and beef up your look. If you have a roundish face, go for close, sharply angled sideburns to lend your face some squareness and definition.
Step 3: Shave into shape
Carefully delineate your sideburns by shaving them into the shape you've decided on.
Step 4: Trim hair
Use a comb and scissors, or adjustable electric clippers, to trim the hair forming your sideburns to the desired length.
Tip
To maintain your new look, keep the length of the hairs in check, by trimming them often, and redefine their shape every time you shave.
Step 5: Check mirror
Check the mirror to make sure you're stylin'. Next stop, muttonchops!

Sideburns
Sideburns, sideboards, or side whiskers are patches of facial hair grown on the sides of the face, extending from the hairline to below the ears. The term sideburns is a 19th-century corruption of the original burnsides, named after American Civil War general Ambrose Burnside, a man known for his unusual facial hairstyle that connected thick sideburns by way of a moustache, but left the chin clean-shaven. "Burnsides" became "sideburns" probably because of their location on the side of the face.
Variations
Sideburns can be worn and grown in combination with other styles of facial hair, such as the moustache or goatee, but once they extend from ear to ear via the chin they cease to be sideburns and become a beard, chinstrap beard, or chin curtain. Friendly mutton chops are a variation which adds a connecting mustache to the side burns.
Indigenous men of Mexico, who shaved their heads and wore their sideburns long, as well as Colombians, who wear their sideburns long and typically do not have any other facial hair, are said to be wearing "balcarrotas", rarely seen in modern times, but prized in the sixteenth century, as a mark of virile vanity and banned by the colonial authorities in New Spain, occasioning rioting in 1692.

I don't like how mine look on me since they get EXTREMELY dark and thick and there isn't really a way to "trim" or "thin" them while keeping it look natural so I choose to get rid of them. I don't want it noticeable and I want it to look natural. So that's why I use an epilator and tweezers, that way it grows back natural looking and not 'stubbly' or thicker. I choose this method rather than others since it's easy to do yourself and it's more precise than other methods. *The epilator I'm using is Emjoi's Epislim, and i bought it at Sally's Beauty Supply for around $20. OPEN MEEE ♡♡♡ __________________________________ So obviously this isn't for everyone and is a personal choice. Just like some people like how they look with pierced ears and some don't. I don't like how mine look on me since they get EXTREMELY dark and thick and there isn't really a way to "trim" or "thin" them while keeping it look natural so I choose to get rid of them. I don't want it noticeable and I want it to look natural. So that's why I use an epilator and tweezers, that way it grows back natural looking and not 'stubbly' or thicker. I choose this method rather than others since it's easy to do yourself and it's more precise than other methods. *The epilator I'm using is Emjoi's Epislim... -

So I decided to film this video because I have searched for a good sideburn video and never found one that I liked. Like I said in the video I'm not 100% content with this method. That's because its hard to keep up with. I have to do this about once a week for it to not look weird due to the fast hair growth. We are talking all about sideburns today with men's style and grooming expert, Aaron marino of alpha m and http://www.iamalpham.com . Sideburns area an incredible way to add interest, detail, and dimension to your face as well as finish off a hair cut. But what makes a good sideburn? What sideburn is best with what face shape? What works best for you? There's a lot to consider.
First, Aaron Marino of alpha m. talks about sideburn trends. Having no sideburns looks funny as the hair style has no defining line where it stops. A little sideburn is required. Your hairstyle leads the way for the length and fullness of the sideburns. The sideburn should balance and compliment your hairstyle. If you have a short hairstyle, a long busy sideburn doesn't make sense- what makes sense is a longer hairstyle with those fuller and longer sideburns.
Another key aspect when determining the sideburns is genetics. Some of you have been growing luscious and thick facial hair since the 8th grade. Others, like Alpha, don't have fantastically even nor dense follicle activity. It wasn't until Alpha's 30s that he started materializing some sideburns. Genetics play a major role in what sideburn style you're able to wear.
The two aspects of sideburns that you should be most concerned about are length and width. Alpha describes the length categories: short, medium, long, and extra long. He also covers width which include conservative / standard as well as wider and thinner styles.
You can play with and experiment with sideburns to find something that you totally love. But when experimenting, consider your face shape. The four basic face shapes: round, square, oval, and triangular / heart. Reference this article about the best sideburns for face shapes. The idea is that you want to contrast and balance your face shape:
Round: slim with longer sideburns to elongate your face. Keep tight to face.
Oval: medium length and medium width. Avoid super long and super thin because they will make your face look longer.
Square: medium-to-long sideburn that is thinner. The visual illusion is a narrow jaw.
Triangular or heart: wider (standard) and longer sideburn which will strengthen your jaw.
Another tip: instead of cutting your sideburns straight across and blunt, give them a slight angle that follows your jawline. It all comes down to personal preference. Express your individual style and flair.

We are talking all about sideburns today with men's style and grooming expert, Aaron marino of alpha m and http://www.iamalpham.com . Sideburns area an incredible way to add interest, detail, and dimension to your face as well as finish off a hair cut. But what makes a good sideburn? What sideburn is best with what face shape? What works best for you? There's a lot to consider.
First, Aaron Marino of alpha m. talks about sideburn trends. Having no sideburns looks funny as the hair style has no defining line where it stops. A little sideburn is required. Your hairstyle leads the way for the length and fullness of the sideburns. The sideburn should balance and compliment your hairstyle. If you have a short hairstyle, a long busy sideburn doesn't make sense- what makes sense is a longer hairstyle with those fuller and longer sideburns.
Another key aspect when determining the sideburns is genetics. Some of you have been growing luscious and thick facial hair since the 8th grade. Others, like Alpha, don't have fantastically even nor dense follicle activity. It wasn't until Alpha's 30s that he started materializing some sideburns. Genetics play a major role in what sideburn style you're able to wear.
The two aspects of sideburns that you should be most concerned about are length and width. Alpha describes the length categories: short, medium, long, and extra long. He also covers width which include conservative / standard as well as wider and thinner styles.
You can play with and experiment with sideburns to find something that you totally love. But when experimenting, consider your face shape. The four basic face shapes: round, square, oval, and triangular / heart. Reference this article about the best sideburns for face shapes. The idea is that you want to contrast and balance your face shape:
Round: slim with longer sideburns to elongate your face. Keep tight to face.
Oval: medium length and medium width. Avoid super long and super thin because they will make your face look longer.
Square: medium-to-long sideburn that is thinner. The visual illusion is a narrow jaw.
Triangular or heart: wider (standard) and longer sideburn which will strengthen your jaw.
Another tip: instead of cutting your sideburns straight across and blunt, give them a slight angle that follows your jawline. It all comes down to personal preference. Express your individual style and flair.

So obviously this isn't for everyone and is a personal choice. Just like some people like how they look with pierced ears and some don't. I don't like how mine look on me since they get EXTREMELY dark and thick and there isn't really a way to "trim" or "thin" them while keeping it look natural so I choose to get rid of them. I don't want it noticeable and I want it to look natural. So that's why I use an epilator and tweezers, that way it grows back natural looking and not 'stubbly' or thicker. I choose this method rather than others since it's easy to do yourself and it's more precise than other methods.
*The epilator I'm using is Emjoi's Epislim, and i bought it at Sally's Beauty Supply for around $20.

Step 1: Stop shaving
Stop shaving. Let your facial hair flourish untouched for a few days or weeks, depending on how hairy you are and how fast your hair grows.
Tip
Consider going on vacation to avoid going through the scruffy, transitional phase in full view of your coworkers.
Step 2: Pick a shape
Pick a shape for your sideburns. Do you want the "classic tab," which very discreetly extends only to about the midpoint of your ear? Or are you after the "full grizzly," which can reach as far down as your jaw line and stand off your face as high as you want?
Tip
If you have a long, thin face, create bushier sideburns to soften the angles and beef up your look. If you have a roundish face, go for close, sharply angled sideburns to lend your face some squareness and definition.
Step 3: Shave into shape
Carefully delineate your sideburns by shaving them into the shape you've decided on.
Step 4: Trim hair
Use a comb and scissors, or adjustable electric clippers, to trim the hair forming your sideburns to the desired length.
Tip
To maintain your new look, keep the length of the hairs in check, by trimming them often, and redefine their shape every time you shave.
Step 5: Check mirror
Check the mirror to make sure you're stylin'. Next stop, muttonchops!

Miami native Sol Ruiz, one of the lead singers of the Spanglish-speaking fusion band Picadillo, was just a kid fresh out of New World School of the Arts when she moved to New Orleans to surround herself with her beloved jazz and blues ... That guy was Ray Rodriguez, Picadillo’s other lead singer, who was conservatory-trained in Cuba, plays electric guitar and cuts a super-fly figure with his ‘fro and mutton chop sideburns....
