Gilad Atzmon (Hebrew: גלעד עצמון; born June 9, 1963) is an Israeli-born British jazz saxophonist, novelist, political activist and writer.
Atzmon's album Exile was BBC jazz album of the year in 2003. Playing over 100 dates a year, he has been called "surely the hardest-gigging man in British jazz." His albums, of which he has recorded thirteen to date, often explore the music of the Middle East and political themes. He has described himself as a "devoted political artist."
His criticisms of Zionism, Jewish identity, and Judaism, as well as his controversial views on Holocaust denial and Jewish history, have led to allegations of antisemitism and racism from both Zionists and leading anti-Zionists.
Atzmon was born in a secular Jewish family in Tel Aviv, and trained at the Rubin Academy of Music in Jerusalem.
He first became interested in British jazz when he discovered some in a British record shop in Jerusalem in the 1970s. He initially was inspired by the work of Ronnie Scott and Tubby Hayes and regarded London as "the Mecca of Jazz." He also was influenced to become a jazz musician by the work of Charlie Parker, in particular Charlie Parker with Strings recorded in 1949. Atzmon said of the album that he "loved the way the music is both beautiful and subversive – the way he basks in the strings but also fights against them." He worked with top bands as a musical producer.
Atzmon (Hebrew: עַצְמוֹן), formerly known as Segev, is a community settlement in Gush Segev in the Galilee, part of the Misgav Regional Council. In 2014 it had a population of 1,049.
After the establishment of Israel in 1948, the Jewish National Fund initiated the establishment of "working villages" to providing housing and employment for the large influx of new immigrants. Segev was founded in 1957 as one of these villages. In the early years of its existence, residents of Segev were employed in building roads and forestry work. They planted the Segev forest, which today covers both sides of Highway 805, from Yavor junction to the Misgav services center.
Misgav High School, a high school that accepts students from all communities in the Misgav region, is located in Atzmon.
David Randolph "Dave" Scott (born June 6, 1932), (Col, USAF, Ret.), is an American engineer, retired U.S. Air Force officer, former test pilot, and former NASA astronaut. He belonged to the third group of NASA astronauts, selected in October 1963. As an astronaut, Scott became the seventh person to walk on the Moon.
Before becoming an astronaut, Scott graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point and joined the United States Air Force. He graduated from the Air Force Experimental Test Pilot School (Class of 1963) and Aerospace Research Pilot School (Class of 1964). Scott retired from the Air Force in 1975 with the rank of colonel, and more than 5,600 hours of logged flying time.
As an astronaut, Scott made his first flight into space as pilot of the Gemini 8 mission, along with Neil Armstrong, in March 1966, spending just under eleven hours in low Earth orbit. Scott then spent ten days in orbit as Command Module Pilot aboard Apollo 9, his second spaceflight, along with Commander James McDivitt and Lunar Module Pilot Rusty Schweickart. During this mission, Scott became the last American to fly solo in Earth orbit (not counting subsequent untethered EVAs). Scott made his third and final flight into space as commander of the Apollo 15 mission, the fourth human lunar landing, becoming the seventh person to walk on the Moon and the first person to drive on the Moon.

Love has many definitions; but one is certainly to have the patience and care to point out the errors and flaws in another so that they may reform themselves, and by doing so avoid repeating self-destructive behaviour and the mistakes of the past. By this definition, Gilad Atzmon has a great love for the Jewish People although at times he has received great hatred in return. This is because in addition to being a Jazz Saxophonist of note and delight, writer and philosopher, he is also the sharpest and bravest of the critics of contemporary Jewish identity politics. The central role of the modern State of Israel in middle east affairs, and the central role of the Jewish lobby in shaping the policies of the United States of America make his insights into Jewish power, Jewish identity and Je...
