Retour sur l'héritage laissé par Bob Denard dans l'archipel des Comores.
Alors que dans les années soixante-dix Bob Denard est un mercenaire au service de la France, l'homme enchaîne les missions de déstabilisation et les opérations coup de poing à travers le monde.
Pour le compte de la République, Bob Denard, surnommé « le Corsaire de la République », a très tôt commencé à saboter les volontés indépendantistes des colonies françaises. En 1953, il est policier dans une « brigade antiterroriste » au Maroc, après avoir été commando de marine en Indochine. En 1954, il prend part à une tentative d'assassinat contre Pierre Mendès France, accusé de brader les colonies.
Sa carrière de mercenaire commence au Katanga (riche région de l'ex-Congo belge dont la sécession contre Lumumba a été encouragée par la France, entre autres), il oscillera selon le bon vouloir de Foccart entre les sécessionnistes et Mobutu (1965). Il poursuivra sa carrière au Biafra (après un séjour à Paris où il combat la génération 68 avec des membres du Service d'Action Civique créé par De Gaulle), au Gabon, où il « fait le ménage » chez les opposants à Omar Bongo, en Angola, ou au Bénin. Il recrute sans difficultés dans les milieux d'extrême droite, en osmose avec ses milices successives. Sa terre de prédilection reste les Comores où, de 1975 à 1995, il organise nombre de coups d'État, élimine des personnalités politiques et organise divers trafics à même de financer sa troupe.
Quand la France souhaite faire tomber de la tête des Comores, Ahmed Adballah, qui a proclamé l'indépendance de l'archipel en 1975,
elle fait appel au «colonel». Il formente un coup d'Etat et place au pouvoir Ali Soilih.
Pendant 15 ans, Bob Denard va faire main basse sur le pays en façonnant les institutions militaires ou économiques, les gouvernements, le tourisme et l'agriculture.
En 1995, la France envoie des troupes d'élite pour déloger Bob Denard.

Denard, who has admitted having carried out covert operations for a number of countries was sentenced two years ago to a five-year suspended jail term for a 1977 attempted coup in the west African state of Benin. He has been involved in at least two putsches in the Comoros. In May, 1978, Denard, who has two children from his marriage to a Comoran woman, overthrew President Soilih. Denard brought Abdallah, the Comoros' first head of state, back to power, but became the islands' de facto ruler as head of the presidential guard, which was financed by South Africa. On November 27, 1989, Abdallah was shot dead in Denard's presence in the presidential palace.

STORYLINE:
Bob Denard, a French former mercenary who led uprisings across Africa and the Middle East and controlled Comoros for more than a decade, has died, his family said Sunday.
He was 78.
Denard died in the Paris area and the cause of death was not immediately clear, said a family
member on condition of anonymity for privacy reasons.
He had been known to suffer from Alzheimer's disease and cardiovascular problems.
Once France's top gun for hire, Denard was handed a five-year suspended prison term by a
French court last year for his role in a failed 1995 coup in Comoros, in the Indian Ocean, an archipelago that he virtually ruled through figurehead leaders after a 1978
putsch.
Denard, whose real name was Gilbert Bourgeaud, was convicted for leading about 30 French mercenaries who had stormed ashore in Comoros to overthrow President Said
Djohar after an overnight raid in 1995.
A week later, French troops, acting in the name of a bilateral defence accord between France and Comoros, liberated Djohar and took the mercenaries captive.
In May 1999, Denard was acquitted in the 1989 assassination of Comoros President Ahmed Abdallah, who was shot dead in his office in Moroni, the capital.

Colonel Bob Denard (April 7, 1929 – October 13, 2007), born Gilbert Bourgeaud, was a French soldier and mercenary. He was known for having done various jobs in support of Françafrique (a term referring to France's sphere of influence in its former colonies) for Jacques Foccart, in charge of French president Charles de Gaulle's policy in Africa. Having fought in Algeria during the Algerian War, he then took part in the Katanga secession in the 1960s and fought in many African countries including Congo, Angola, Rhodesia (today Zimbabwe) and Gabon. Between 1975 and 1995, he participated in four coups in the Comoro Islands. It is widely believed that his adventures had the implicit support of the French state, even after the 1981 election of the French Socialist Party candidate, François Mitterrand, despite moderate changes in France's policy in Africa. He was the father of eight children and had been married seven times (polygamously), after converting to Islam.
After having served with the French Navy in Indochina and in French Algeria, Denard served as a colonial policeman in Morocco from 1952 to 1957. In 1954, he was convicted of an assassination plot against Prime Minister Pierre Mendès-France, a left-wing member of the Radical-Socialist Party who was negotiating the end of the Indochina War and withdrawal of Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria, and served 14 months in jail. An adamant anti-Communist, Denard then took part in many anti-colonialist struggles, simultaneously on his own behalf and on the behalf of the French state. Once he was freed from jail, he worked for the French secret services during the war in Algeria.

Alors que dans les années soixante-dix Bob Denard est un mercenaire au service de la France, l'homme enchaîne les missions de déstabilisation et les opérations coup de poing à travers le monde.
Pour le compte de la République, Bob Denard, surnommé « le Corsaire de la République », a très tôt commencé à saboter les volontés indépendantistes des colonies françaises. En 1953, il est policier dans une « brigade antiterroriste » au Maroc, après avoir été commando de marine en Indochine. En 1954, il prend part à une tentative d'assassinat contre Pierre Mendès France, accusé de brader les colonies.
Sa carrière de mercenaire commence au Katanga (riche région de l'ex-Congo belge dont la sécession contre Lumumba a été encouragée par la France, entre autres), il oscillera selon le bon vouloir de Foccart entre les sécessionnistes et Mobutu (1965). Il poursuivra sa carrière au Biafra (après un séjour à Paris où il combat la génération 68 avec des membres du Service d'Action Civique créé par De Gaulle), au Gabon, où il « fait le ménage » chez les opposants à Omar Bongo, en Angola, ou au Bénin. Il recrute sans difficultés dans les milieux d'extrême droite, en osmose avec ses milices successives. Sa terre de prédilection reste les Comores où, de 1975 à 1995, il organise nombre de coups d'État, élimine des personnalités politiques et organise divers trafics à même de financer sa troupe.
Quand la France souhaite faire tomber de la tête des Comores, Ahmed Adballah, qui a proclamé l'indépendance de l'archipel en 1975,
elle fait appel au «colonel». Il formente un coup d'Etat et place au pouvoir Ali Soilih.
Pendant 15 ans, Bob Denard va faire main basse sur le pays en façonnant les institutions militaires ou économiques, les gouvernements, le tourisme et l'agriculture.
En 1995, la France envoie des troupes d'élite pour déloger Bob Denard.

Although said to have "retired" two years ago, Denard was reported by a Comorian diplomat in Paris to be back on his old stomping ground on Thursday (28/9) holding the current President hostage, even though he faces trial in France in connection with the killing of former Comoran president Abdallah. Denard, who has admitted having carried out covert operations for a number of countries was sentenced two years ago to a five-year suspended jail term for a 1977 attempted coup in the west African state of Benin. He has been involved in at least two putsches in the Comoros. In May, 1978, Denard, who has two children from his marriage to a Comoran woman, overthrew President Soilih. Denard brought Abdallah, the Comoros' first head of state, back to power, but became the islands' de facto ruler as head of the presidential guard, which was financed by South Africa. On November 27, 1989, Abdallah was shot dead in Denard's presence in the presidential palace.

Denard, whose real name was Gilbert Bourgeaud, was convicted for leading about 30 French mercenaries who had stormed ashore in Comoros to overthrow President Said
Djohar after an overnight raid in 1995.
A week later, French troops, acting in the name of a bilateral defence accord between France and Comoros, liberated Djohar and took the mercenaries captive.
In May 1999, Denard was acquitted in the 1989 assassination of Comoros President Ahmed Abdallah, who was shot dead in his office in Moroni, the capital.

Il a tenu des bars en Thaïlande : à Bangkok puis à Pattaya.
Il reconnaissait lui-même qu'il travaillait "de temps en temps" pour la CIA ... et sans doute aussi pour la police thaïlandaise. Il connaissait bien Tony Poe (CIA) et Jim Coyne ("photographe-journaliste" du magazine Soldier of Fortune). Un mercenaire belge de ses amis était Charles Masy qui a tenu le bar "La Renaissance" à Bruxelles.
Guillaume Vogeleer semble avoir été impliqué dans de nombreux trafics. Certains l'accusent même de pédophilie. Le chauffeur de Paul Vanden Boeynants, lui aussi soupçonné de pédophilie, se rendait dans son bar en Thaïlande.
Guillaume Vogeleer est décédé dans un hôpital militaire thaïlandais d'un abus d'alcool.
Un élément intéressant est qu'il connaissait bien le "commandant de gendarmerie François", chargé de la lutte contre les trafics de drogue en Belgique (et probablement impliqué lui-même dans ces trafics) ainsi que des gens du milieu belge comme "Bruno" Farcy et Jozef Vienne. Le gendarme François Raes en parle dans son livre "Un gendarme don Quichotte". Le lieu de rendez-vous était le "Madrid bar" à Bangkok.
Ces truands étaient proches de Patrick Haemers et du Service d'Action Civique (SAC) en Belgique (André Condemine, etc) ... en contact notamment avec un dénommé Claude Nitelet fortement soupçonné dans les "Tueries du Brabant".
A noter que le chef du WNP, Paul Latinus, a déclaré avoir été recruté par la DIA.

Un reportage-interview de Marc Hoogsteyns sur Guillaume Vogeleer ("colonel Jimmy", "Jimmy le Belge") en Thaïlande.
Né à Forest en 1937, Guillaume Vogeleer a vécu dans les Marolles à Bruxelles.
Il y a tenu un bar (le "Pan-Pan") avec un proche du truand Havelange.
Il est entré dans l'armée (pour faire oublier son casier judiciaire ?) et a servi au 2e bataillon commando de Flawine avant de s'engager au Congo.
Il a participé à l'opération Ommegang (Congo) et a été mercenaire avec Bob Denard.
On le retrouve, ami des militaires, au Chili ... où il prend des photos lors du coup d'Etat contre Salvador Allende (il y a juste 40 ans).
Il arrive ensuite en Asie, au service de la DIA (Defense Intelligence Agency) qu'il connaissait peut-être déjà avant.
Il a tenu des bars en Thaïlande : à Bangkok puis à Pattaya.
Il reconnaissait lui-même qu'il travaillait "de temps en temps" pour la CIA ... et sans doute aussi pour la police thaïlandaise. Il connaissait bien Tony Poe (CIA) et Jim Coyne ("photographe-journaliste" du magazine Soldier of Fortune). Un mercenaire belge de ses amis était Charles Masy qui a tenu le bar "La Renaissance" à Bruxelles.
Guillaume Vogeleer semble avoir été impliqué dans de nombreux trafics. Certains l'accusent même de pédophilie. Le chauffeur de Paul Vanden Boeynants, lui aussi soupçonné de pédophilie, se rendait dans son bar en Thaïlande.
Guillaume Vogeleer est décédé dans un hôpital militaire thaïlandais d'un abus d'alcool.
Un élément intéressant est qu'il connaissait bien le "commandant de gendarmerie François", chargé de la lutte contre les trafics de drogue en Belgique (et probablement impliqué lui-même dans ces trafics) ainsi que des gens du milieu belge comme "Bruno" Farcy et Jozef Vienne. Le gendarme François Raes en parle dans son livre "Un gendarme don Quichotte". Le lieu de rendez-vous était le "Madrid bar" à Bangkok.
Ces truands étaient proches de Patrick Haemers et du Service d'Action Civique (SAC) en Belgique (André Condemine, etc) ... en contact notamment avec un dénommé Claude Nitelet fortement soupçonné dans les "Tueries du Brabant".
A noter que le chef du WNP, Paul Latinus, a déclaré avoir été recruté par la DIA.
