We had just done the nature trail over the Maitland River, drove down to the salt mine, came back up, went across and down to the beautiful lake front park. We sat and watched as a big black clout out on the horizon got closer and closer. At first it just seemed like heavy rain coming but then we realized that the clouds were moving in 2 different directions. It very quickly came ashore. Our car was being pushed from both sides. Baseball sized hail, sand, tree branches, all kinds of debris pelted our car heavily. Our car is actually covered in thousands of dents and small holes. We are very lucky our windows held out. Our vehicle is badly damaged but we are all ok!

The ETR(Essex Terminal Railway) is the short line that runs from Windsor Ont to Amherstberg Ont. and serves many businesses including the salt mine, Ford, and a rice company. They have 2 yards, one on the outskirts of Windsor in Ojibwa and one at their head quarters on Lincoln Rd. They switch cars for CN in the Van De Water Yard to the west of the location that this was shot at (this guy was getting ready to switch the Van De Water yard) and CP's Windsor Yard which is to the north west of this location (on the other side of the fence is the yard lead). If you want to see this just go onto Google Earth or Google Maps. This one had ETR 104 SW something lol.

The Windsor Salt Mine currently operates two locations in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The first is at 200 Morton Drive in Windsor, established in 1955, and is owned by The Canadian Salt Company, Limited. The facility has 250 employees, earns roughly $75–99 million a year, producing road and mining salt. The second location is the Windsor Facility of the Canadian Salt Company, located at 30 Prospect Ave. in Windsor. This facility employs 110 and estimates their sales at $25–50 million a year. It was established much earlier than the first, in 1893. Their main products are salt used for human consumption, water softening and agriculture. In 2008, Canadian Salt mined approximately 9,500 kilotonnes from the Windsor mine, 85% of which went to deicing highways, and the remainder for manufacturing caustic soda and chlorine, producing pulp and paper, and water treatment.
