The second track from our music project experiments in location and field recordings 'Hanging On' The St Illtud's Sessions. Recorded last Autumn in The Galilee Chapel, at the fifth century site of St Illtud's Church, Llantwit Major. The track was recorded simply in one take with condenser mics and an ambient room mic in the Galilee Chapel. Back in the studio Producer Kevs Ford has added a touch of ambient keys and classical guitar to the mix of the field recording of my vocal and guitar.
Bel Blue & Friends, The St Illtud’s Sessions, EP Launch, Thurs 10th Oct 2019. Donations gratefully received in aid of Papyrus.
Massive thanks to St Illtud's Church, Edwin and friends

Hanging On
I don’t know how
I don’t know why
I just can’t explain it
My tummy flips
My facade slips
And suddenly I’m hanging on to you
I'm hanging on to you
Hanging on to you
You say you still believe in tomorrow
Hanging onto you
Best I can do
And maybe I’ll believe in tomorrow
She’s over there
Without a care
Carefully constructing
She says it’s like a pen
First it’s your friend
And then it consumes you
Consumes you
And she is hanging on
Hanging on
She says she wants to believe in tomorrow
Keeps her hanging on
Best she can do
And maybe she’ll believe in tomorrow
He’s left behind
In a world
He said he didn’t see
He didn’t it coming
Stiff upper lip
It starts to crumble
And suddenly he is hanging on
He is hanging on
Hanging on
He says he wants to believe in tomorrow
Keeps him hanging on
Best he can do
And maybe he’ll believe in tomorrow
Keeps us hanging on
Hanging on
And maybe we’ll believe in tomorrow

The walking was easy on level or gradually undulating ground with one moderate ascent and one moderate descent. Route finding was easy with obvious paths, good waymarking and good landmarks. Along the walk you visit; Libanus National Park Visitor Centre and the trig point of Twyn y Gaer. Scenery includes: undulating grassy paths and tracks across the common land of Mynydd Illtud, dotted with gorse bushes, trees and ponds; breathtaking views across the highest mountains in the Brecon Beacons National Park from the summit of Twyn y Gaer; the ramparts of an Iron Age fort and trig point at the summit of Twyn y Gaer. You may also encounter sheep grazing on the common land.
I did this walk with my wife Anne whilst on a Brecon Beacons National Park walking holiday during April 2019. We drove from our holiday accommodation in Talybont-on-Usk, Powys to the starting location of the National Park Visitor Centre, Powys and parked in the car park, at grid reference SN 978 262, about two kilometres north west of Libanus, which was also the start location of the walk.
