Funkoars

The Funkoars are an Australian hip hop act from Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. The group is part of the Certified Wise crew of hip hop artists from South Australia (including the Hilltop Hoods, Pegz and Vents), who also collaborated on various recordings. Funkoars are signed to the Golden Era Records label.

Biography

Formation

Consisting of MC and producer Daniel Rankine (aka Mr Trials or simply Trials), MCs Adam Baker (aka Uncle Sesta or simply Sesta) and Matthew Honson (aka Sketchy Hons or simply Hons), and DJ Daniel Yates (aka Reflux), Funkoars was established in Adelaide around the year 1999. According to Trials, a "Funkoar is the dreg of society. It is the funnel in which all morals and conscious are drained into the river Styx."

In March 2014, Sesta explained that at the time of the band's formation, notions of fame or success were not a significant factor in the creative process, and he thinks "that's what gave the local scene such a strong foundation. There was no promised light at the end of the tunnel that your average band would dare to dream of." Sesta further explained that artists at the time were driven by a love of hip hop culture, unconcerned by market trends, and they "enjoyed the process of making the songs" most of all. In addition to Gravediggaz and Akinyele, Sesta also identified Centrelink as an early influence of the band, as bandmate "Hons would come to my house on check day [welfare payment day] and we'd finish a case of imported (from Melbourne) beer and a hot chicken. We passed it back and forth on a body board in a small wading pool we got from Cheap As Chips. Came up with a lot of ideas there, sort of."

Trials (band)

Trials are an American heavy metal band formed in Chicago, Illinois in 2008. Known for their blend of thrash music and death metal, their music also has melodic and progressive elements.

History

Origins (2007-2011)

Trials was originally formed by vocalist/guitarist Mark Sugar and former Novembers Doom drummer Sasha Horn, sometime in late 2007. In an interview with About.com, Mark Sugar stated, "We formed...with only two members and the sole intention of recording a demo. The demo got more attention than we bargained for, and we gradually became a full band." As the band's demo gained notoriety in Chicago and beyond, the band recruited bassist Usha Rajbhandari and guitarist Remy Walle, and gradually began writing what would become their first album, Witness to the Downfall.

Witness To The Downfall (2011)

After several delays, Trials' first album, "Witness to the Downfall", was released independently on August 1, 2011. Produced by the band, the record was mixed and mastered by German engineer Lasse Lammert. Artwork duties were handled by Seth Siro Anton, of the band Septicflesh.

Trials (journal)

Trials is an open access peer-reviewed medical journal covering performance and outcomes of randomized controlled trials. The journal is published by BioMed Central and the editors-in-chief are Doug Altman (University of Oxford), Curt Furberg (Wake Forest School of Medicine), and Jeremy Grimshaw (Ottawa Health Research Institute). The journal encourages both authors and peer reviewers to make use of the CONSORT and QUOROM checklists for randomized trials and systematic reviews, respectively.

Study protocols

Besides covering the results of trials, the journal also publishes study protocols. Publishing protocols before they are finalised will allow others to provide constructive criticism, potentially improving the suggested trial; readers of scientific articles will be able to compare what was intended with the trial to what was actually done, in order to identify inappropriate data dredging; in general, protocol publication lets people know what is underway, reducing the risk of wasteful duplication of research effort and ensures that results from all trials are published, reducing the risk of publication bias in systematic reviews; and finally, efforts to increase publication of protocols may also improve trial registration in registers such as ClinicalTrials.gov.

Single (cricket)

In the sport of cricket, a single is scored when the batsman take one run, either following a successful shot (with the run attributed to the on-strike batsman) or when running for a bye or leg bye (counted as an extra).

Unlike when a boundary is hit (and the run are scored even if the batsmen don't leave their creases), scoring a single requires the batsmen to physically run between the wickets. This introduces the risk of being run out, so effective communication between the batsmen is vital. If one batsman attempts to run and the other stays put, then a humiliating run out is likely, but quick and well attuned batsmen may be able to run "quick singles" when other batsmen wouldn't. In general, singles are much easier to score when the field is set further out, but bringing more fielders in makes it easier for the on-strike batsman to hit boundaries.

Singles usually rotate the strike in a partnership, but because the bowling end changes at the end of an over, singles deliberately only taken at the end of an over are used by quality batsmen to keep the strike when they are batting with the tail-enders, who are unlikely to survive for long against quality bowling and whom an experienced batsman will normally try to protect.

Tuple

A tuple is a finite ordered list of elements. In mathematics, an $n$ -tuple is a sequence (or ordered list) of $n$ elements, where $n$ is a non-negative integer. There is only one 0-tuple, an empty sequence. An $n$ -tuple is defined inductively using the construction of an ordered pair. Tuples are usually written by listing the elements within parentheses " $(\text{ })$ " and separated by commas; for example, $(2, 7, 4, 1, 7)$ denotes a 5-tuple. Sometimes other symbols are used to surround the elements, such as square brackets "[ ]" or angle brackets "< >". Braces "{ }" are never used for tuples, as they are the standard notation for sets. Tuples are often used to describe other mathematical objects, such as vectors. In computer science, tuples are directly implemented as product types in most functional programming languages. More commonly, they are implemented as record types, where the components are labeled instead of being identified by position alone. This approach is also used in relational algebra. Tuples are also used in relation to programming the semantic web with Resource Description Framework or RDF. Tuples are also used in linguistics and philosophy.
