Designers all over the world are now finding potentialand offering products made from these new fabrics. Jute makes almost no demand on the world's scarse energy resources; the agriculture of jute requires very little or no use of pesticides and fertilizer making it an ideal organic fiber. India and Bangladesh account for ninety five percent of total world production of jute. It is
also produced in limited quantity in Nepal, Myanmar, China, Thailand, Vietnam and Brasil. Jute cultivation is labor intensive. Mature jute plants are harvested and wetted in the water allowing the fiber to loosen to be extracted from the stem. Jute provides livelihood for millions of poor farmers and their families in Asia. Jute products, particularly packaging materials, once enjoyed major world market share, but with
the introduction of synthetics and rapid technological changes the traditional jute market declined to some extent. In recent years, due to the natural advantages and development of new and diversified jute products, the market is again opening up for jute. A whole new range of jute products has now emerged from traditional products, like sacking made from lower grades of jute fibers.
Hessian cloth, a fine quality jute fabric, having wide range of use and exported widely both as cloth and bag the versatile jute fiber is now used to produce jute rigid packaging reinforced plastic jute composites and exciting new projects. Bags of all types, ranging from shopping to fashion, are produced in different sizes, shapes and colors.
Jute fiber can also be used as good quality pulp and paper, thus saving forest resources. Similarly jute yarn and twines are exported to produce jute based fabrics for furnishing, home decor, upholstery, blankets, cushion covers, and other textiles. Various decorating functions, toys, wall hangings, table lamps, floor coverings, packaging materials, shoes, fashion jewelry, doors and panels, particle
boards and other items are also made by jute.
jute geo textiles have high moisture absorption capacity flexibility and drainage properties and are used to prevent soil erosion and landslides by laying along river embankments, roadsides, hillslopes, etcetera. Jute plants are a huge source of renewable biomass. The carbon dioxide assimilation rate of jute is several times higher than that of trees. It is estimated that one hectare of jute plants can consume about fifteen tons of carbon dioxide from atmosphere and release about eleven tons of
oxygen in the hundred days of the jute growing season.
Besides, the production of jute sticks provides double the amount of fibre. jute sticks are a cheap source for fuel and fencing in villages and have great value to farmers. These sticks are also used to produce particle boards as wood substitute. Jute plant root contains beta corosine which helps improve soil texture and enrich soil soft leaves of juste plants are also consumed as vegetable. The leaves contain medicinal values; efforts are on to use jute sead oil in industrial purposes.

For over a month at the peak of the monsoon season, the ponds along the rural roads become a workplace for many Bengali jute farmers. As the video shows, the environment is challenging and the profits are modest - at least for the farmers. In India alone approximately 4 million families are involved in jute production.
The history of industrialized jute production dates back to the mid-1800's. The first operating jute mill was built near Kolkata (Calcutta) on the banks of the Hooghly River. Jute is second only to cotton in the amount of finished fiber produced. India is the world's largest producer at about 2 million metric tons - over half of the world's annual production. Bangladesh, West Bengal's eastern neighbor, is second with 1.5 million. 75% of India's jute is produced in the state of West Bengal. The export value of India's jute crop products is $167 million annually.

Jute is a long, soft, shiny vegetable fibre that can be spun into coarse, strong threads. It is produced from plants in the genus Corchorus, which has been classified in the family Tiliaceae, or more recently in Malvaceae. However, it has been reclassified within the family Sparrmanniaceae.
Jute is one of the most affordable natural fibres and is second only to cotton in amount produced and variety of uses of vegetable fibres. Jute fibres are composed primarily of the plant materials cellulose (major component of plant fibre) and lignin (major components of wood fibre). It is thus a ligno-cellulosic fibre that is partially a textile fibre and partially wood. It falls into the bast fibre category (fibre collected from bast or skin of the plant) along with kenaf, industrial hemp, flax (linen), ramie, etc. The industrial term for jute fibre is raw jute. The fibres are off-white to brown, and 1–4 metres (3–12 feet) long.
Jute needs a plain alluvial soil and standing water. The suitable climate for growing jute (warm and wet climate) is offered by the monsoon climate during the monsoon season. Temperatures from 20˚C to 40˚C and relative humidity of 70%–80% are favourable for successful cultivation. Jute requires 5–8 cm of rainfall weekly and more during the sowing period.

For over a month at the peak of the monsoon season, the ponds along the rural roads become a workplace for many Bengali jute farmers. also produced in limited quantity in Nepal, Myanmar, China, Thailand, Vietnam and Brasil. Jute cultivation is labor intensive. Mature jute plants are harvested and wetted in the water allowing the fiber to loosen to be extracted from the stem. Jute provides livelihood for millions of poor farmers and their families in Asia. Jute products, particularly packaging materials, once enjoyed major world market share, but with
the introduction of synthetics and rapid technological changes the traditional jute market declined to some extent. In recent years, due to the natural advantages and development of new and diversified jute products, the market is again opening up for jute. A whole new range of jute products has now emerged from traditional products, like sacking made from lower grades of jute fibers.
Hessian cloth, a fine quality jute fabric, having wide range of use and exported widely both as cloth and bag the versatile jute fiber is now used to produce jute rigid packaging reinforced plastic jute composites and exciting new projects. Bags of all types, ranging from shopping to fashion, are produced in different sizes, shapes and colors.
Jute fiber can also be used as good quality pulp and paper, thus saving forest resources. Similarly jute yarn and twines are exported to produce jute based fabrics for furnishing, home decor, upholstery, blankets, cushion covers, and other textiles. Various decorating functions, toys, wall hangings, table lamps, floor coverings, packaging materials, shoes, fashion jewelry, doors and panels, particle
boards and other items are also made by jute.
jute geo textiles have high moisture absorption capacity flexibility and drainage properties and are used to prevent soil erosion and landslides by laying along river embankments, roadsides, hillslopes, etcetera. Jute plants are a huge source of renewable biomass. The carbon dioxide assimilation rate of jute is several times higher than that of trees. It is estimated that one hectare of jute plants can consume about fifteen tons of carbon dioxide from atmosphere and release about eleven tons of
oxygen in the hundred days of the jute growing season.
Besides, the production of jute sticks provides double the amount of fibre. jute sticks are a cheap source for fuel and fencing in villages and have great value to farmers. These sticks are also used to produce particle boards as wood substitute. Jute plant root contains beta corosine which helps improve soil texture and enrich soil soft leaves of juste plants are also consumed as vegetable. The leaves contain medicinal values; efforts are on to use jute sead oil in industrial purposes.
