The Pannonian Basin or Carpathian Basin is a large basin in East-Central Europe. The geomorphological term Pannonian Plain is more widely used for roughly the same region though with a somewhat different sense - meaning only the lowlands, the plain that remained when the Pliocene Epoch Pannonian Sea dried out. It is a geomorphological subsystem of the Alps-Himalaya system. Most of the plain consists of the Great Hungarian Plain (in the south and east, including the Eastern Slovak Lowland) and the Little Hungarian Plain (in the northwest), divided by the Transdanubian Mountains.
The Pannonian Basin lies in the southeastern part of Central Europe, or at the boundary between Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe (Balkans). It forms a topographically discrete unit set in the European landscape, surrounded by imposing geographic boundaries - the Carpathian Mountains, the Alps, the Dinarides and the Balkan mountains. The Rivers Danube and Tisza divide the basin roughly in half. It extends roughly between Vienna in the northwest, Zagreb in the southwest, Belgrade in the southeast and Satu Mare in the northeast.

Travel Video about Caves in Slovenia. The subterranean world is a unique testimony of the Earth’s history. In the ancient world mysterious cavities in the mountains were referred to as ‘the dark underworld’.Open to the public and set within a karst landscape where the foothills of the Alps merge with the Pannonian Plain, is the largest and longest cave system in Slovenia, Postojnska Jama. Around five million years ago, planar layers of rock became folded together by movements of the Earth's crust forming mountains and valleys. Changes also began deep down. Surface water seeped into the permeable karst, triggered the limestone and flushed it out. Subterranean water channels emerged and the Postojna caves extended dramatically into further large, wide passages. In the heart of the Slovenian ...
Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport is the main Slovenian international airport, which accounts for 97% of total air traffic in Slovenia. Aerodrom Ljubljana is also an important stakeholder in the broader logistics services chain in the Alpe-Adria region. The location of the airport is ideal for developing air connections and activities related to the airline industry, as it is situated at the crossroads of traffic flows between the Pannonian Basin and the Po Valley, and the corridor from the Middle East to the European Union running through the Istanbul Strait. The airport is managed by Aerodrom Ljubljana, an environmentally and socially responsible company with more than 50 years of tradition. It has been owned by the German company Fraport since 2014.

Slovenia is the only country in Europe that combines the Alps, the Mediterranean, the Pannonian Plain and the Karst. The changing landscape is constantly surprising, time and again. You can have one eye on the sea, then look in the other direction and be surrounded by high mountains. Heading up into the forests, you can see the green plains below you. From upland meadows your view stretches into river gorges. This proximity of opposites and contrasts is a hallmark of the country. In Slovenia you can still walk through virgin forest, or watch the grapes ripen on the oldest vine in the world. You can hear tales of bears, and eat forest fruits that you have foraged yourself on a brief walk out of town. Here you can uncover the secrets of the land, and what lies beneath it. Here you are part ...
Since 1 July 2013, Croatia is a member of the European Union. The Republic of Croatia (Republika Hrvatska) looks back to an eventful history. From 1945 until 1991 it was part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Since 1991 it is an autonomous state. Between 1991 and 1995 the Croatian War of Independence against the Serb-controlled Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) and local Serb forces shook the whole country, a war, which finally was totally won by Croatia. Meanwhile Croatia developed to a modern State with a Western orientation. Despite of a relatively small land area of about 56.500 square kilometres, three distinctly different landscape zones can be differed from each other, the Pannonian Basin, the Dinaric Alps and the Adriatic Coastal Region. This film presents impressions fr...

Bordered by Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia in the east, Slovenia in the west, Hungary in the north and Montenegro and the Adriatic Sea in the south, it lies mostly between latitudes 42° and 47° N and longitudes 13° and 20° E. Croatia's territorial waters encompass 18,981 square kilometres in a 12 nautical miles wide zone, and its internal waters located within the baseline cover an additional 12,498 square kilometres. The Pannonian Basin and the Dinaric Alps, along with the Adriatic Basin, represent major geomorphological parts of Croatia. Lowlands m...
