Cast Away is a 2000 American survival drama film directed and produced by Robert Zemeckis and starring Tom Hanks as a FedEx employee stranded on an uninhabited island after his plane crashes in the South Pacific. The film depicts his attempts to survive on the island using remnants of his plane's cargo. The film was a critical and commercial success, and Hanks was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role at the 73rd Academy Awards for his performance. This was the first film to be produced by Hanks' production company under its new aegis Playtone (formerly Clavius Base).
In 1995, Chuck Noland is a time-obsessed systems engineer, who travels worldwide resolving productivity problems at FedEx depots. He is in a long-term relationship with Kelly Frears, with whom he lives in Memphis, Tennessee. Although the couple wants to get married, Chuck's busy schedule interferes with their relationship. A Christmas with relatives is interrupted when Chuck is summoned to resolve a problem in Malaysia. While flying through a violent storm, his plane crashes into the Pacific Ocean. Chuck escapes the sinking plane and is saved by an inflatable life-raft but loses the raft's emergency locator transmitter. He clings to the life-raft, loses consciousness, and floats all night before being washed up on an island. After he awakens, he explores the island and soon discovers that it is uninhabited.

Cast Away is the second album by symphonic power metal band Visions Of Atlantis, and was released in 2004.
Metal Hammer Germany wrote that the album was arranged rather simple and less spectacular than contemporary releases by Nightwish or Within Temptation. Some refrains and intros of Cast Away were even criticised for being almost kitsch. The reviewer was however positive about singer Nicole Bogner's evolution since the previous album.
According to Allmusic's reviewer, the album was an indecisive mix of Nightwish and Evanescence. He wrote that both Nicole Bogner's operatic singing and Mario Plank's "pop-oriented" performance made the band lose its musical identity but also opened it for a wider audience.
The Sonic Seducer delivered a positive review, marking an increased quality of performance since the band's debut album. The reviewer lauded the symphonic sound arrangements and Bogner's soprano voice.

Visions of Atlantis is a metal band from Styria, Austria, founded in 2000. Inspiration came both from successful symphonic power metal band Nightwish and from the myth of Atlantis. The equal combination of male and female vocals distinguishes Visions of Atlantis from Nightwish however and is more reminiscent of bands such as Lacuna Coil.
Fascinated by the myth of Atlantis, Werner Fiedler, Thomas Caser, Christian Stani and Chris Kamper decided in August 2000 to work out a concept inspired by the secret of Atlantis. Late in summer mezzo-soprano Nicole Bogner joined the project, and this was the birth of Visions of Atlantis. A first demo, Morning in Atlantis was released in 2000.
In 2001 they signed with TTS Media Music/Black Arrow Productions, and in 2002 their first album, Eternal Endless Infinity was released.
In 2003, the band saw some changes in line-up, replacing Christian Stani with Mario Plank and Chris Kamper with Miro Holly.
Cast away, oh cast away
Along the rocky coast
What will you miss the most
Now that you’re never going home
Fill the space, oh fill the space
With thoughts and revelations
As you claim your life’s station
Now that you’ll always be alone
Solitude is eternal
The company of your mind
The endless days of searching
And living with what you find
It sounds such a tragic place to be
But it has a certain beauty
The cavernous space inside
This world which we reside
Blowing through, oh blowing through
The wind, it scatters all
Brown leaves in the fall
And the murmur of our past
Flickering, oh flickering
A star wavers in the dark
It’s a brief but beautiful mark
It’s the heart that you know best
It’s not to get you down
Chin up, feel proud
You’re a member of the human race
It may not be glamorous, but it is your place
This is your face, so take it with grace
All those feelings that confuse
And all the love that you lose
It’s a part of this human race
It may not be easy, but it is your fate
