Raymond Huntley (23 April 1904 – 19 October 1990) was an English actor who appeared in dozens of British films from the 1930s to the 1970s. Huntley also appeared in the ITV period drama Upstairs, Downstairs as the pragmatic family solicitor Sir Geoffrey Dillon.
Born in Birmingham in 1904, Huntley made his stage debut at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre on 1 April 1922, in A Woman Killed with Kindness. His London debut followed at the Court Theatre on 22 February 1924, in As Far as Thought can Reach.
He subsequently inherited the role of Count Dracula from Edmund Blake in Hamilton Deane's touring adaptation of Dracula, which arrived at London's Little Theatre on 14 February 1927, subsequently transferring to the larger Duke of York's Theatre. Later that year he was offered the chance to reprise the role on Broadway (in a script streamlined by John L. Balderston); when he declined, the part was taken by Bela Lugosi instead. Huntley did, however, appear in a US touring production of the Deane/Balderston play, covering the east coast and midwest, from 1928-30. "I have always considered the role of Count Dracula to have been an indiscretion of my youth," he recalled in 1989.
An almost totally unknown film with a story that has been told many times in various forms, but never quite as disappointingly as this. The film is a good example of the misuse of usually excellent performers - certainly no one here would get an Oscar for acting. Filled with stock characters who never really seem to come ‘alive', there is very little to grab one's attention or emotions as each character's story seems so false, with the actors unable to bring to life the unremarkable and obvious script. The constantly over-scored music by John Greenwood (who wrote music for "Hungry Hill", "Quartet", "The Last Days of Dolwyn" and many others) is typical of the period, and the sets have an air of cheapness. The whole feels like just filling in till better roles come along for actors like Phy...

"The Way Ahead" is a British Second World War drama released in 1944. It stars David Niven and Stanley Holloway and follows a group of civilians who are conscripted into the British Army to fight in North Africa. In the U.S., an edited version was released as "The Immortal Battalion". The film was written by Eric Ambler and Peter Ustinov and directed by Carol Reed. The three had originally produced the 1943 training film "The New Lot", which was produced for the Army Kinematograph Service. "The Way Ahead" was an expanded remake of their earlier film, this time intended for a commercial audience. The two films featured some of the same actors, including John Laurie, Raymond Huntley and Peter Ustinov. In the days after the Dunkirk evacuation in Second World War, Lieutenant Jim Perry (David...
