Maddox (writer)

Maddox is the pen name of George Ouzounian, an American humorist, satirist, Internet personality, and author. He gained fame on the Internet in the early 2000s for his opinion-oriented website, The Best Page in the Universe, which he still maintains. His first book, The Alphabet of Manliness (2006), became a New York Times bestseller. He is a graduate of Woods Cross High School in Woods Cross, Utah; he also attended the University of Utah, but does not hold a degree.

Career

Maddox started The Best Page in the Universe in 1997. He took his pen name from the 1987 original video animation Metal Skin Panic MADOX-01. The majority of the content is satirical. Maddox reported in 2006 that the site's online store earned enough for him to "stay above water." Maddox is reported to have worked as a programmer for a telemarketing company until 2004.

On June 6, 2006, Maddox appeared at the San Diego Comic Con with his comic book, The Best Comic in the Universe.

Maddox's first book, The Alphabet of Manliness, was published in 2006 and reached number one on the Amazon.com sales chart. The book is illustrated and has a chapter-length entry for each letter in the English alphabet regarding a "manly" topic (for example, N is for Norris, Chuck).

American football

American football (referred to as football in the United States and Canada, also known as gridiron elsewhere) is a sport played by two teams of eleven players on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end. The offense, the team with control of the oval-shaped football, attempts to advance down the field by running with or passing the ball, while the team without control of the ball, the defense, aims to stop their advance and take control of the ball for themselves. The offense must advance at least ten yards in four downs, or plays, or else they turn over the football to the opposing team; if they succeed, they are given a new set of four downs. Points are primarily scored by advancing the ball into the opposing team's end zone for a touchdown or kicking the ball through the opponent's goalposts for a field goal. The team with the most points at the end of a game wins.

American football evolved in the United States, originating from the sports of association football and rugby football. The first game of American football was played on November 6, 1869, between two college teams, Rutgers and Princeton, under rules based on the association football rules of the time. During the latter half of the 1870s, colleges playing association football switched to the Rugby Union code, which allowed carrying the ball. A set of rule changes drawn up from 1880 onward by Walter Camp, the "Father of American Football," established the snap, eleven-player teams, and the concept of downs; later rule changes legalized the forward pass, created the neutral zone, and specified the size and shape of the football.

5–2 defense

In American football, the 5–2 defense is a defensive alignment consisting of five down linemen and two linebackers.

5-2 Eagle

Historically, there are two significant variations of the 5–2 defense in professional and college football. The first is the defense created by Earle (Greasy) Neale. This defense was prominent in the National Football League from the late 1940s through the middle 1950s and was a precursor defense to Buddy Ryan's 46 defense.Paul Brown describes the defense as having a tight five man line, and linebackers who were to jam offensive ends as they came off the line. Brown goes on to say that the use of four defensive backs was innovative at the time. By 1950, the base defense of NFL teams were five man line defenses, either the 5-2 Eagle or the 5-3-3.

The 5-2 Eagle has a (passing) hole in the middle of the defense, usually dealt with by having outside linebackers jam the ends. Offenses countered by using slot backs instead of tight ends. Consequently, teams began to experiment, around 1954, with pulling the middle guard back a couple yards and putting him in a 2 point stance. The success of the New York Giants in 1956 with their base 4-3 lead to a rapid conversion to the 4-3 in 1957. Almost all teams switched to the new defense at that time.

Remember (The Fiery Furnaces album)

Remember is the first live album from indie rock band The Fiery Furnaces, released on August 19, 2008. The album includes various live performances of songs from their first six studio albums, recorded between 2005 and the tour for their 2007 album, Widow City. Some longer songs, such as "Blueberry Boat" and "Quay Cur", have multiple cuts in the track from various performances. Other songs, such as the tracks from the Bitter Tea medley, were recorded live in the recording studio.

Remember (The Great Adventure)

Remember (The Great Adventure) is the ninth and currently most recent studio album by the German solo artist Michael Rother. It was released on 25 April 2004. The studio album was Rother's first since 1996 and his sole full release of material in the 2000s.

The album was recorded between 1997 and 2004 in Germany at Rother's own studio Random Studio in Forst and Studio B3, Hamburg/St. Pauli. Receiving positive reviews the album was released as a CD in the EU in 2004 before it was released in the US in February 2005. The artwork was conceptualized by Thomas Beckmann and Michael Rother with photography from Michael Rother's archive.

Recording and music

Remember (The Great Adventure) was recorded over a period of seven years, unusually for his solo work the album was recorded in collaboration with a number of musicians. Thomas Beckmann, Andi Toma and Jake Mandell each program electrobeats. Asmus Tietchens provided the basic tracks for "Aroma Club B3". Most radically, the album features vocals on many of the songs by Sophie Williams and Herbert Grönemeyer. Rother's previous studio album had included vocals, however Williams' and Grönemeyer's vocals are at the forefront of the mix. Aside from these collaborations the entirety of the album was written, performed, recorded and produced by Rother utilising guitar, keyboards and computers.
