Bell's photophone Less than 10 years had passed since the appearance of a wired phone, when its author, Alexander Bell, developed the first device designed for wireless transmission of non-coded speech. This device was named Photophone. Structurally the Photophone consisted of two main components: a transmitter, which arranged modulating of the signal, and a receiver, in which the light signal, modulated in the transmitter, turned into modulated light vibrations. Structurally this was arranged by a flexible film, metalized on one side and polished. The light from a powerful source, situated at a specific angle to the transmitter, got on the microphone mirror and was modulated by the sound from the microphone. Modulated signal in the form of light was sent to a selenium photoelectric sensor. There the light was converted into voltage and was sent to the headphones as an audio signal. The radio range of this device depended on the conditions, time of the day, the source brightness, etc. However, experiments with the photophone can be considered one of the first successful experiments in wireless telephony and the first step to the mobile phone.

Photophone

The photophone (later given the alternate name radiophone) is a telecommunications device which allowed for the transmission of speech on a beam of light. It was invented jointly by Alexander Graham Bell and his assistant Charles Sumner Tainter on February 19, 1880, at Bell's laboratory at 1325 L Street in Washington, D.C. Both were later to become full associates in the Volta Laboratory Association, created and financed by Bell.

On June 3, 1880, Bell's assistant transmitted a wireless voice telephone message from the roof of the Franklin School to the window of Bell's laboratory, some 213 meters (about 700 ft.) away.

Bell believed the photophone was his most important invention. Of the 18 patents granted in Bell's name alone, and the 12 he shared with his collaborators, four were for the photophone, which Bell referred to as his "greatest achievement", telling a reporter shortly before his death that the photophone was "the greatest invention [I have] ever made, greater than the telephone".

Le Lumia 1020 est mis en abîme et plombé par son appareil photo, puisque autant la caméra est réellement étonnante que Nokia l'a mentionné, autant le capteur pourra être gênant pour tous ceux qui recherchent de la finesse. Si vous souhaitez prendre des clichés d'une qualité bien supérieure à la moyenne, je vous recommande de jeter un oeil à ce dernier. Il y a quelques inconvénients. L'autonomie de la batterie n'est pas très grande, et vous allez devoir faire face à un problème récurrent sur les Windows Phone, c'est le manque d'applications. Le Lumia 1020 est mis en abîme et plombé par son appareil photo, puisque autant la caméra est réellement étonnante que Nokia l'a mentionné, autant le capteur pourra être gênant pour tous ceux qui recherchent de la finesse. Si vous souhaitez prendre des clichés d'une qualité bien supérieure à la moyenne, je vous recommande de jeter un oeil à ce dernier. Il y a quelques inconvénients. L'autonomie de la batterie n'est pas très grande, et vous allez devoir faire face à un problème récurrent sur les Windows Phone, c'est le manque d'applications. Et puis, cette bosse sur la coque arrière ne va pas disparaître. Ce ne sera jamais un téléphone extrêmement confortable à prendre en main. Oh, et le prix est élevé. Vous allez pouvoir le trouver aux alentours de 210€ pour un abonnement de deux ans, sinon il faut sortir quelques billets, 7 de 100€ pour être exact si vous souhaitez l'acheter nu. The difference between science and magic may seem obvious, but in this video Henry Feinberg easily makes the two come together in a fun and, at times, dazzling presentation of using light waves to carry sound. In this entertaining show Feinberg presents a working version of Alexander Graham Bell's Photophone, as well as experiments in other principles of light. Before his 30-year tenure at Bell Labs, Feinberg worked with Don Herbert, televisio's "Mr. Wizard", developing experiments that were both fun and educational. Using everyday household items, that show's experiments seemed like magic tricks, capturing their youthful audienceís imagination and helping instill an interest in science. Feinberg continued that mixing of science and entertainment while working for Bell. He helped develop exhibits for AT&T; at the InfoQuest Center in New York City and the Epcot Center in Florida. However, Feinberg's most famous creation really was a piece of magic - movie magic. In 1982 Bell Labs was approached by Steven Spielberg to design a device that might be created by an errant Earth-bound alien to communicate with his ship in outer space. Bell declined to work on the film but referred Spielberg to Feinberg, who gladly tackled the job on his own time. The resulting film, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, became an instant classic, with Feinberg's "Communicator" built out of toys and household items, proving to be a central and delightful part of the movie. Feinberg worked at Bell Labs until his retirement in 1998. Since then he has continued to contribute to science education as an exhibit designer and consultant for museums, and as a science enthusiast of inter-galactic dimensions. Bell's photophone Less than 10 years had passed since the appearance of a wired phone, when its author, Alexander Bell, developed the first device designed for wireless transmission of non-coded speech. This device was named Photophone. Structurally the Photophone consisted of two main components: a transmitter, which arranged modulating of the signal, and a receiver, in which the light signal, modulated in the transmitter, turned into modulated light vibrations. Structurally this was arranged by a flexible film, metalized on one side and polished. The light from a powerful source, situated at a specific angle to the transmitter, got on the microphone mirror and was modulated by the sound from the microphone. Modulated signal in the form of light was sent to a selenium photoelectric sensor. There the light was converted into voltage and was sent to the headphones as an audio signal. The radio range of this device depended on the conditions, time of the day, the source brightness, etc. However, experiments with the photophone can be considered one of the first successful experiments in wireless telephony and the first step to the mobile phone.

Le Lumia 1020 est mis en abîme et plombé par son appareil photo, puisque autant la caméra est réellement étonnante que Nokia l'a mentionné, autant le capteur pourra être gênant pour tous ceux qui recherchent de la finesse. Si vous souhaitez prendre des clichés d'une qualité bien supérieure à la moyenne, je vous recommande de jeter un oeil à ce dernier. Il y a quelques inconvénients. L'autonomie de la batterie n'est pas très grande, et vous allez devoir faire face à un problème récurrent sur les Windows Phone, c'est le manque d'applications. Et puis, cette bosse sur la coque arrière ne va pas disparaître. Ce ne sera jamais un téléphone extrêmement confortable à prendre en main. Oh, et le prix est élevé. Vous allez pouvoir le trouver aux alentours de 210€ pour un abonnement de deux ans, sinon il faut sortir quelques billets, 7 de 100€ pour être exact si vous souhaitez l'acheter nu. The difference between science and magic may seem obvious, but in this video Henry Feinberg easily makes the two come together in a fun and, at times, dazzling presentation of using light waves to carry sound. In this entertaining show Feinberg presents a working version of Alexander Graham Bell's Photophone, as well as experiments in other principles of light. Before his 30-year tenure at Bell Labs, Feinberg worked with Don Herbert, televisio's "Mr. Wizard", developing experiments that were both fun and educational. Using everyday household items, that show's experiments seemed like magic tricks, capturing their youthful audienceís imagination and helping instill an interest in science. Feinberg continued that mixing of science and entertainment while working for Bell. He helped develop exhibits for AT&T; at the InfoQuest Center in New York City and the Epcot Center in Florida. However, Feinberg's most famous creation really was a piece of magic - movie magic. In 1982 Bell Labs was approached by Steven Spielberg to design a device that might be created by an errant Earth-bound alien to communicate with his ship in outer space. Bell declined to work on the film but referred Spielberg to Feinberg, who gladly tackled the job on his own time. The resulting film, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, became an instant classic, with Feinberg's "Communicator" built out of toys and household items, proving to be a central and delightful part of the movie. Feinberg worked at Bell Labs until his retirement in 1998. Since then he has continued to contribute to science education as an exhibit designer and consultant for museums, and as a science enthusiast of inter-galactic dimensions.
