Right now, I'm a little frazzled with Super Mario RPG Revolution, while unsure what to do about the Hyphy Movement, the San Francisco Bay Area residents who prove that it doesn't deserve to be called the "Yay Area", the shallow girls who would say "wanna suck my pee" just to mock me, and the Oakland rioter. So now I'm LPing Battalion Wars? Why? Because it needs a proper LP. Preparing to manage a swift attack on Xylvania to liberate the Aloha Atoll for the SE, WF prepares an aerial attack named Operation Neptune to cover the infantry being sent for the job. Call Sign Eagle puts you in control of air units, and air units only. You can't even control the infantry whatsoever. This gimmick is actually a refreshing change from the fact that this game is generally infantry centric, but like just about anything in Radiant Dawn, it suffers the problem of bad execution. The issues I have? An unbelievable amount of Gameplay And Story Segregation. General Herman, who is supposed to be smart and eager, has NO vet units or vehicles in his invasion force, while Kaiser Vlad, who is supposed to be Dangerously Genre Savvy, has NO AA ground forces to cause an auto-win against your air force, instead relying on the completely frail Fighters to deal with it. And naturally, Colonel Ausin and I are both in the fray to provide WF with the only sagacity shown between BOTH armies in this mission. Now I generally don't notice story flaws as well as other people, but when I do, it's because they're so cringe worthy that they need to be mentioned in ANY LP or whatnot. (And Code Geass's Esoteric Happy Ending is no exception.) Anyway, the mission is to escort Herman's invasion force (again, WHY ONLY GRUNTS?) through the path around the island to the command center. Yeah, an Escort Mission, and I don't mind them in general, but when you give them bad execution, that's when problems arise. If you can deal with the Unexpected Genre Change, it shouldn't difficult to bomb the bajeezus out of all of the land units (again, WHY NO AA GROUND UNITS, VLAD?) as well as deal with the Fighters. Once the Grunts get to the command center, you get a Strato Destroyer, which unfortunately have such terrible controls that I'll just showcase it in an extras video and instead work as a Fighter here. After the command center is fully taken care of, 2 Strato Destroyers appear, but again, they do not last long. With that, Vlad declares that he can just as easily tip the scales in his favor sooner or later. We shall see. New units: *The Strato Destroyer, the rarest unit in BOTH Battalion Wars for some idiotic reason, suffers being underpowered due to faulty execution. While it has a lot of toys to work with, it has poor turning, making it easy for a Fighter to get behind it and seal its fate. The problem is that the game gave it subpar armor for its Mighty Glacier status, most likely on the flimsy reason of allowing the player to adapt to Fighter controls in X-Day to help deal with the fact that X-Day is a stupidly hard mission as it is. With 7 crew (which actually took me by surprise), there's no excuse for it suffering the Mighty Glacier curse. And you can't even use bombs when locking onto ground units. Yeah, the Strato Destroyer is woefully inaccurate against land units. The Bomber at least can manually bomb the enemy units. (And meanwhile, where's my bloody Attacker? Not the overcomplicated Seaplane stupidity in Days of Ruin.)
