T. Kuzio, "Donbas elites have political discipline unlike Dnipropetrovsk elites" (Партія регіонів)
An excerpt from "Commissars into Oligarchs: Cycles of Ukrainian History", a lecture by Dr. Taras Kuzio, St. Vladimir Institute, University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada, 16 August 2013. This video was not sponsored. - Kuchma gave Donetsk (Донецьк) de facto autonomy in exchange for not challenging him in Ukrainian elections; local elites merged together into one political force: Party of Regions - Local elites in Dnipropetrovsk (Дніпропетровськ) continued to be divided amongst themselves and therefore were unable to form a strong political party - Oligarch Ihor Kolomoyskyi (Ігор Коломойський / Игорь Коломойский) hated Viktor Pinchuk (Віктор Пінчýк) and could never work together, Pavlo Lazarenko, Yulia Tymoshenko - Viktor Yushchenko and Yulia Tymoshenko continuously quarreled and lacked discipline in their political force See Taras Kuzio's book "Commissars to Oligarchs. 'Tymoshenko Tour' Tracks Former PM's Hometown Roots
A tour agency in the Ukrainian city of Dnipropetrovsk is capitalizing on the fame of one of its native daughters, jailed former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, with a three-hour tour of sites from her early life and career. The tour covers Tymoshenko's childhood apartment building, her university, and the energy company she founded in 1989. The agency also introduces visitors to sites from the life of another Dnipropetrovsk politician -- former Prime Minister Pavlo Lazarenko -- who served a prison term in the United States for financial crimes. Organizers say they did not consult Tymoshenko's family in creating the attraction, and have faced threats of a lawsuit over privacy breaches from the Dnipropetrovsk branch of her Fatherland party. But as long as the tours continue, the business is profitable, drawing between 200-500 hryvnias ($24-61) per visitor.- published: 15 Aug 2013

PULS NEWS AND PRESS-REVIEW IN ENGLISH. 23:00(+2GTM) 19 NOVEMBER SEPTEMBER 2013
YANUKOVYCH & FULE On the 19th of November European commissioner for enlargement and European neighbourhood policy Štefan Füle has attended the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. Together with parliamentary chairman Volodymyr Rybak he discussed Ukraine's execution of the key Euro integration issues. Ukrainian president has met European commissioner as well. AZAROV & ALIEV The new possibilities of investing into Ukraine and Azerbaijan will be discussed at a common business-forum. President of the republic Ilham Aleiv has suggested conducting such a meeting. This was the topic of his meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov in Kyiv. Azerbaijani president stressed on the dynamics in the countries relationships' development and called the project of construction of infrastructure objects in Azerbaijan with participation of Ukrainian companies to be a perspective one. VERKHOVNA RADA MEETINGS There happened no miracle. On Tuesday parliamentarians failed to adopt draft laws on treatment of prisoners abroad. There were 4 of them, like the last week. New draft law wasn't adopted even by the working group on Monday. So it will be considered on PSHONKA The law on treatment of prisoners abroad is not to be adopted in favour of one person and must not contradict the Constitution. This was stated by Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Pshonka. According to him, if the parliament adopts such a law, Ukraine will become the first country in the world to introduce such a piece of legislation. PJLITOLOGISTS ABOUT EU Ukraine's interest in signing the Agreement with the EU against the backdrop of difficult political situation in the country makes the possibility of joining the Association doubtful. Last plenary sessions of the Verkhovna Rada have showed that consensus in Yulia Tymoshenko's issue has not been reached. TYMOSHENKO & LAZARENKO The representatives of the NGO's responsible for monitoring and prevention of organized crimes have presented the results of research, showing that ex-prime-ministers of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko and Pavlo Lazarenko could be engaged into theft of state funds. Know more details from the following report. PAVLENKO Ukrainian society considers violence towards children normal. 61% of children aged from 2 to 14 became victims of psychological or physical punishment in their families. These are the results of the research conducted by the UNICEF and Ukrainian Children's Ombudsman's office. According to Yuriy Pavlenko over the past 3 years 7% more children were born, while child mortality has reduced by 27%. TOBACCO PRODUCTS 2 billion and 60 million USD -- that's the sum the State Treasury of Ukraine gained from increasing of excise taxes on tobacco products last year. This year economists predict that due to such measures it is possible to replenish the state budget by at least 2 billion and 200 million USD. However, because of significant flow of smuggled cigarettes the sum is significantly less. DIABETES Bitter consequences of sweet disease. According to the official data by the health ministry, 4 millions of our compatriots are sick with diabetes. And only one million of them are officially registered. In most cases people are unaware of their illness, because at first stages the disease causes almost no symptoms and gives itself away only when one has serious complications. BOOK ABOUT HOLODOMOR According Iryna Reva, the enterprise of Ukrainians has been undermined by the holocaust of 30-s. In her book "On the outside of self" the author reflects on social, political and cultural repercussions of holocaust and Stalin's repressions. WINTER WEATHER Winter in Ukraine will be softer than the previous one, however slightly more unstable, the representatives of Ukrainian Hydro meteorological Research Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine say.- published: 08 Dec 2013
