Fire Marshal Bill Burns - Jim Carrey portrayed a masochistic (and supposedly immortal) fire marshal with a manic grin and scarred face whose safety advisories usually include demonstrating (on himself) the very disaster he's warning against. (Every sketch illustrates a timeline of readily-visible damage on Bill from previous episodes). Usually, the warnings are against ridiculous situations that would never come to pass, such as a crab people invasion or an outbreak of psychotic elves. Every sketch ends with Fire Marshal Bill blowing up the facility he's teaching at. Despite each sketch showing him lose parts of his body(in one sketch, only his head remained), Bill never died. Catchphrases included "Lemme show ya something!!", "Don't worry folks, i'm a Fire Marshal!" and "It can be very, very DTUHHH-DTUHHH...DEADLY!" (In at least one sketch, the character's full name is given as Fire Marshal Bill Burns.)

Fire Marshal Bill Burns is one of the most popular fictional characters to emerge from the sketch comedy show In Living Color. He was portrayed by actor Jim Carrey and appeared in 10+ sketches. He is the only character to appear consistently throughout all 5 seasons of ILC.
A common sketch would be for Fire Marshal Bill to appear unexpectedly then show how unsafe ordinary activities were by showing himself engaging in off-the-wall, dangerous activities which he responded with "LEMME SHOW YA SOMETHIN!!!!" Examples included where he warned against drinking cocktails on a cruise liner because it would be dangerous if one was holding a vial of hydrochloric acid in the other hand. The climax of the sketch occurred when he would perform the most destructive act involving explosives which would inevitably destroy the set, only to have people running for their lives and his response '"Do not panic, I am a fire marshal!" before the expected destruction. Despite sometimes losing limbs(in one sketch, only his head was left) Fire Marshal Bill was never killed, as he was then seen among those forced out of the destroyed structure. His immortality also lends itself to long life as he apparently performed the same standard of service as a fire marshall on the Titanic as in his own words "Unsinkable? I showed them". The character is widely known to have been modeled as a caricature of Mr. Rogers. The idea was suggested to Carrey by longtime friend and fellow actor Daniel Lichtblau.
"Fire Marshal Bill" is a term used to describe someone who is engaging in very risky behavior, such as a man who smokes a cigarette while pumping gas.
Examples of Fire Marshal Bill's destruction
* Lighting the pilot light when a meteor shower occurred, burning down a house.
* Injecting himself with nitroglycerin and then Farting, resulting in an explosion destroying a hospital.
* Arming the self-destruct sequence on a futuristic space station, vaporizing it.
* Defusing a plastic explosive only to send it to a cruise liner's engine room, reigniting it and forcing everyone to abandon ship.
* Throwing a grenade into a fireplace during a Christmas party.
* Throwing an explosive in a bar during the Super Bowl, blowing the bar up.
* Chopping off his thumb for no reason.
* Blowing up a blimp. A video of the Hindenburg's explosion was shown after.
* Stop, drop and rolling on thumbtacks.

Shocking video we recorded of Lee County sheriff's department deputies with Fire Marshal James Tanner ordering event staff to cover ambulance, and fire truck entrance to the Fort Rock event in an attempt to block us from the crowd. At first the deputy in charge emphatically states that we are blocking this most important exit, and I showed very clearly that we were indeed not doing so. Then just minutes later, the fire marshal shows up and actually allows the staff to completely cover it with a black roll of visqueen with zip ties and bags of sand rendering the exit useless and inoperable. I wonder what the mayor and county commissioner would say to this....

Fire marshal
A fire marshal, in the United States and Canada, is often a member of a fire department but may be part of a building department or a separate department altogether. Fire marshals' duties vary but usually include fire code enforcement and/or investigating fires for origin and cause. Fire marshals may be sworn law-enforcement officers and are often experienced firefighters.
A fire marshal's duties vary by location. Fire marshals may carry a weapon, wear a badge, wear a uniform or plain clothes, and make arrests pertaining to arson and related offenses, or, in other localities, may have duties entirely separate from law enforcement, including building- and fire-code-related inspections. In many areas, the fire marshal is responsible for enforcing laws concerning flammable materials.
Canada
Fire Marshals provide advisory services to local fire departments and assist in code writing and enforcement. The Fire Investigation Section (FIS) of the OFM also inbased on various criteria from fire departments and police agencies.

Jim Carrey
James Eugene "Jim" Carrey (/ˈkæri/; born January 17, 1962) is a Canadian American actor, comedian, impressionist, screenwriter, and film producer. He is known for his highly energetic slapstick performances.
Carrey first gained recognition in 1990 after landing a recurring role in the sketch comedy In Living Color. His first leading roles in major productions came with Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994), Dumb and Dumber (1994), The Mask (1994), and Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995), as well as a supporting role in Batman Forever (1995) and a lead role in Liar Liar (1997). He then starred in The Truman Show (1998) and Man on the Moon (1999), with each garnering him a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor.
In the 2000s, he gained further recognition for his portrayal of the Grinch in How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000), as well as Bruce Almighty (2003), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004), Fun with Dick and Jane (2005), Yes Man (2008), Horton Hears a Who! Shocking video we recorded of Lee County sheriff's department deputies with Fire Marshal James Tanner ordering event staff to cover ambulance, and fire truck entrance to the Fort Rock event in an attempt to block us from the crowd. At first the deputy in charge emphatically states that we are blocking this most important exit, and I showed very clearly that we were indeed not doing so. Then just minutes later, the fire marshal shows up and actually allows the staff to completely cover it with a black roll of visqueen with zip ties and bags of sand rendering the exit useless and inoperable. I wonder what the mayor and county commissioner would say to this....

Fire Marshal Bill Burns - Jim Carrey portrayed a masochistic (and supposedly immortal) fire marshal with a manic grin and scarred face whose safety advisories usually include demonstrating (on himself) the very disaster he's warning against. (Every sketch illustrates a timeline of readily-visible damage on Bill from previous episodes). Usually, the warnings are against ridiculous situations that would never come to pass, such as a crab people invasion or an outbreak of psychotic elves. Every sketch ends with Fire Marshal Bill blowing up the facility he's teaching at. Despite each sketch showing him lose parts of his body(in one sketch, only his head remained), Bill never died. Catchphrases included "Lemme show ya something!!", "Don't worry folks, i'm a Fire Marshal!" and "It can be very, very DTUHHH-DTUHHH...DEADLY!" (In at least one sketch, the character's full name is given as Fire Marshal Bill Burns.)

A common sketch would be for Fire Marshal Bill to appear unexpectedly then show how unsafe ordinary activities were by showing himself engaging in off-the-wall, dangerous activities which he responded with "LEMME SHOW YA SOMETHIN!!!!" His immortality also lends itself to long life as he apparently performed the same standard of service as a fire marshall on the Titanic as in his own words "Unsinkable? I showed them". The character is widely known to have been modeled as a caricature of Mr. Rogers. The idea was suggested to Carrey by longtime friend and fellow actor Daniel Lichtblau.
"Fire Marshal Bill" is a term used to describe someone who is engaging in very risky behavior, such as a man who smokes a cigarette while pumping gas.
