The New Boston Whipple Free Library's new building opened May 5th on Mont Vernon Street behind the Post Office building. History of the Whipple Free Library
The Whipple Free Library was established by one of New Boston's more prominent citizens, J.R. Whipple. After recovering from a failed Boston grocery venture, he went on to become one of the country's leading hotelmen and a millionaire. Remnants of the J.R. Whipple Company, which supplied his hotels with farm products, still exist in New Boston, including the Creamery (next to the Apple Barn) and the cement barns.
The fire in 1887 led Whipple to construct Valley Hall, the business block now occupied by Dodge's Store. A section of the first floor, most recently occupied by the post office, was reserved for the Whipple Free Library and held a collection of about 1800 books, with chairs and a table for those who wished to read and relax. The library was donated to the town of New Boston in 1913 by Whipple's widow and daughter. In 1918, the Rogers Memorial Library was given to the town and its collection of 162 books was merged with the Whipple Free Library collection.
By 1923 the library was reported to be "a bit crowded for room". It found its current home, the Wason Memorial Building, a memorial to George A. And Clara L. Wason, in 1927. By 1963, the library's collection had grown to over 6,000 volumes. The Hayes-Warren addition was constructed in 1982 and was dedicated to ardent library supports Reg and Beulah Hayes, who started the Friends of the Library, and to Elsie Warren, the library's second librarian, who served for 41 years.
Today, the library is more than "a bit crowded for room". The current collection includes over 18,000 books, 550 audio/visual titles, and 65 periodicals. Many programs and activities include storytimes, a very busy summer reading program, and book discussions also strain our space. Many of the books, all of the audio books and videos, the programs, the computers, and fax machine services have been added since 1982.
In 1996 the Library Trustees appointed a building committee who worked with architects to develop a library program to meet expected needs for the next twenty years. However, the warrent articles for bonds needed to fund a new library were not passed, and the plans for a new library were redesigned. Now, in 2009, a new Whipple Free Library is being built on land behind the New Boston Post Office. Funded with private donations from very generous donors, this library is scheduled to open to serve the citizens of New Boston in the spring of 2010.

-This crossing's Mechanical Bell has a nice pitch of the sound.
-This crossing has a rare WCH Type 1 Electronic Bell (The original WCH Electronic Bell)
-Both bells sounds great together.

-The Crossing has an US&S; "Teardrop" Bell which are bells produced from the 1910's to the 1960's and is still there! That bell is in a perfect condition and he mix with Griswold a Mechanical Bell sounds even better.
-There are old style RACO EM Mechanisms and Old Griswold Cantilevers which are very cool cantilevers.
-There is a weird 4 inch gate light on the counterweight arm which is very hard to find.

Clara Whipple
Clara Whipple was a silent film actress from Missouri, USA, who appeared in motion pictures from 1915 - 1919. She was also an author.
Film career
Whipple made The Prima Donna's Husband (1916) under the direction of William A. Brady, Julius Steger, and Joseph Golden. The screenplay was written by Edna Riley who adapted it from a play by Wildbrandt. The crime drama was released by Triumph Films. The five-reeler also featured Kathryn Brown Decker and Holbrook Blinn.
She was the leading lady in The Reapers (1916), starring opposite John Mason. The drama exemplified the Biblical truth that As Ye Sow, So Shall Ye Reap. The movie instructs about a high moral truth without preaching. She was cast with Willard Mack and Gerda Holmes in His One Big Chance (1916), a film directed by John Ince.
The Heart of a Hero (1916) was adapted from the Clyde Fitch play entitled Nathan Hale. Robert Warwick played the role of Hale and Gail Kane performed the part of Alice Adams, his girlfriend. The theme of the American Revolution was made more true-to-life with the inclusion of Charles Jackson as Thomas Jefferson. Whipple depicted the Widow Chichester.

The "New" Whipple Free Library in New Boston NHThe "New" Whipple Free Library in New Boston NH
The New Boston Whipple Free Library's new building opened May 5th on Mont Vernon Street behind the Post Office building. History of the Whipple Free Library The Whipple Free Library was established by one of New Boston's more prominent citizens, J.R. Whipple. After recovering from a failed Boston grocery venture, he went on to become one of the country's leading hotelmen and a millionaire. Remnants of the J.R. Whipple Company, which supplied his hotels with farm products, still exist in New Boston, including the Creamery (next to the Apple Barn) and the cement barns. The fire in 1887 led Whipple to construct Valley Hall, the business block now occupied by Dodge's Store. A section of the first floor, most recently occupied by the post office, was reserved for the Whipple Free Library and held a collection of about 1800 books, with chairs and a table for those who wished to read and relax. The library was donated to the town of New Boston in 1913 by Whipple's widow and daughter. In 1918, the Rogers Memorial Library was given to the town and its collection of 162 books was merged with the Whipple Free Library collection. By 1923 the library was reported to be "a bit crowded for room". It found its current home, the Wason Memorial Building, a memorial to George A. And Clara L. Wason, in 1927. By 1963, the library's collection had grown to over 6,000 volumes. The Hayes-Warren addition was constructed in 1982 and was dedicated to ardent library supports Reg and Beulah Hayes, who started the Friends of the Library, and to Elsie Warren, the library's second librarian, who served for 41 years. Today, the library is more than "a bit crowded for room". The current collection includes over 18,000 books, 550 audio/visual titles, and 65 periodicals. Many programs and activities include storytimes, a very busy summer reading program, and book discussions also strain our space. Many of the books, all of the audio books and videos, the programs, the computers, and fax machine services have been added since 1982. In 1996 the Library Trustees appointed a building committee who worked with architects to develop a library program to meet expected needs for the next twenty years. However, the warrent articles for bonds needed to fund a new library were not passed, and the plans for a new library were redesigned. Now, in 2009, a new Whipple Free Library is being built on land behind the New Boston Post Office. Funded with private donations from very generous donors, this library is scheduled to open to serve the citizens of New Boston in the spring of 2010. -

These are reasons why I like them: 20: Broadway Burlingame, CA -I like the loud GS Type 2 Electronic Bell and the sounds are good together with WCH E-Bell. 19: Cherry Street Newark, CA -Even though the Safetran Mechanical is Dying, the bells still sounds great with WCH Electronic Bell. -I like the longer Safetran 1980's Cantilever. 18: Mission Bay Drive San Francisco, CA -I like all 5 WCH 1.5 Electronic Bells mixed with Different Speed rate. 17: Blossom Hill Road San Jose, CA -There are rare Modern Industries Cantilever that are hard to find in California and also there is a rare US&S; Mechanical Bell. 16: 34th Street and Stockton Boulevard Sacramento, CA -There are Rare ASC Electronic Bells that sound good. 15: Galletto Way Reno, NV -I like the Loud WCH Type 1.5 Electronic Bells and RACO Signal Base. -Also I like the odd positioning of the lights 14: Norman Avenue Santa Clara, CA -There are Incandescent Lights on the Coast Subdivision and only few of them have Incandescent Lights. -WCH Electronic Bell and GS Type 1 Electronic Bell sounds very nice together. 13: Fairchild Drive and Ellis Street and US-101 South Entrance Mountain View, CA -Few crossings with Mechanical Bells left on VTA. -All 4 from my view is a good mix. 12: Fremont Boulevard (Centerville Station) Fremont, CA -The slow rated WCH Mechanical Bell and Faster Rated Safetran Mechanical Bell is a Cool mix. -There are GS LED Lights which are rare in Union Pacific Railroads. 11: Mowry Avenue Newark, CA -I like the L&W; Incandescent Gate Lights and there are good spaces to park. 10: Central Avenue Newark, CA -I can see freight trains well from that crossing and constantly goes there. -This crossing also have rare GS LED Lights on UP Lines. 9: 1st Avenue San Mateo, CA -I like the WCH Type 2 Electronic Bell, and General Signals Type 1 and 2 Mixed together. 8: 2nd Avenue San Mateo, CA -The Loud GS Type 1 Electronic Bell is nice to hear mixed with Loud WCH Type 1.5 Electronic Bell. 7: Alvarado Street San Leandro, CA -The High Pitched Safetran Mechanical Bells have a a Great Mix. -The Setup is weird and I like it. 6: 4th Avenue San Mateo, CA -The GS Type 1 Electronic Bell with WCH Type 3 Electronic Bells have an Excellent Mix. -I like the Setup of the crossing and the Aurora Gate LED Lights at the Pedestrian Gate. 5: Davis Street (CA-112) Niles a Subdivision San Leandro, CA -This crossing has interesting Light mix. -This crossing has a Modern Industries Mechanical Bell by me which are hard to find in California. -The view when a train comes is very cool and easy. 4: Blacow Road Fremont, CA -The Setup is one of my favorite. -The bells sound really good and I like the fast rated WCH and Safetran Mechanical Bells. 3: East 25th Avenue San Mateo, CA -The WCH Mechanical Bells and Type 3 Electronic Bells have a very awesome mix. -This is the last crossing with mechanical bells left that Caltrain owns. 2: Whipple Road (Niles Subdivision) Union City, CA -This crossing's Mechanical Bell has a nice pitch of the sound. -This crossing has a rare WCH Type 1 Electronic Bell (The original WCH Electronic Bell) -Both bells sounds great together. 1: Santa Rita Road Pleasanton, CA -The Crossing has an US&S; "Teardrop" Bell which are bells produced from the 1910's to the 1960's and is still there! That bell is in a perfect condition and he mix with Griswold a Mechanical Bell sounds even better. -There are old style RACO EM Mechanisms and Old Griswold Cantilevers which are very cool cantilevers. -There is a weird 4 inch gate light on the counterweight arm which is very hard to find.

The New Boston Whipple Free Library's new building opened May 5th on Mont Vernon Street behind the Post Office building. History of the Whipple Free Library
The Whipple Free Library was established by one of New Boston's more prominent citizens, J.R. Whipple. After recovering from a failed Boston grocery venture, he went on to become one of the country's leading hotelmen and a millionaire. Remnants of the J.R. Whipple Company, which supplied his hotels with farm products, still exist in New Boston, including the Creamery (next to the Apple Barn) and the cement barns.
The fire in 1887 led Whipple to construct Valley Hall, the business block now occupied by Dodge's Store. A section of the first floor, most recently occupied by the post office, was reserved for the Whipple Free Library and held a collection of about 1800 books, with chairs and a table for those who wished to read and relax. The library was donated to the town of New Boston in 1913 by Whipple's widow and daughter. In 1918, the Rogers Memorial Library was given to the town and its collection of 162 books was merged with the Whipple Free Library collection.
By 1923 the library was reported to be "a bit crowded for room". It found its current home, the Wason Memorial Building, a memorial to George A. And Clara L. Wason, in 1927. By 1963, the library's collection had grown to over 6,000 volumes. The Hayes-Warren addition was constructed in 1982 and was dedicated to ardent library supports Reg and Beulah Hayes, who started the Friends of the Library, and to Elsie Warren, the library's second librarian, who served for 41 years.
Today, the library is more than "a bit crowded for room". The current collection includes over 18,000 books, 550 audio/visual titles, and 65 periodicals. Many programs and activities include storytimes, a very busy summer reading program, and book discussions also strain our space. Many of the books, all of the audio books and videos, the programs, the computers, and fax machine services have been added since 1982.
In 1996 the Library Trustees appointed a building committee who worked with architects to develop a library program to meet expected needs for the next twenty years. However, the warrent articles for bonds needed to fund a new library were not passed, and the plans for a new library were redesigned. Now, in 2009, a new Whipple Free Library is being built on land behind the New Boston Post Office. Funded with private donations from very generous donors, this library is scheduled to open to serve the citizens of New Boston in the spring of 2010.

-Few crossings with Mechanical Bells left on VTA.
-All 4 from my view is a good mix.

-The slow rated WCH Mechanical Bell and Faster Rated Safetran Mechanical Bell is a Cool mix.
-There are GS LED Lights which are rare in Union Pacific Railroads.
11: Mowry Avenue Newark, CA
-I like the L&W; Incandescent Gate Lights and there are good spaces to park.
10: Central Avenue Newark, CA
-I can see freight trains well from that crossing and constantly goes there.
-This crossing also have rare GS LED Lights on UP Lines.
9: 1st Avenue San Mateo, CA
-I like the WCH Type 2 Electronic Bell, and General Signals Type 1 and 2 Mixed together.
8: 2nd Avenue San Mateo, CA
-The Loud GS Type 1 Electronic Bell is nice to hear mixed with Loud WCH Type 1.5 Electronic Bell.
7: Alvarado Street San Leandro, CA
-The High Pitched Safetran Mechanical Bells have a a Great Mix.
-The Setup is weird and I like it.
6: 4th Avenue San Mateo, CA
-The GS Type 1 Electronic Bell with WCH Type 3 Electronic Bells have an Excellent Mix.
-I like the Setup of the crossing and the Aurora Gate LED Lights at the Pedestrian Gate.
5: Davis Street (CA-112) Niles a Subdivision San Leandro, CA
-This crossing has interesting Light mix.
-This crossing has a Modern Industries Mechanical Bell by me which are hard to find in California.
-The view when a train comes is very cool and easy.
4: Blacow Road Fremont, CA
-The Setup is one of my favorite.
-The bells sound really good and I like the fast rated WCH and Safetran Mechanical Bells.
3: East 25th Avenue San Mateo, CA
-The WCH Mechanical Bells and Type 3 Electronic Bells have a very awesome mix.
-This is the last crossing with mechanical bells left that Caltrain owns.
2: Whipple Road (Niles Subdivision) Union City, CA
-This crossing's Mechanical Bell has a nice pitch of the sound.
-This crossing has a rare WCH Type 1 Electronic Bell (The original WCH Electronic Bell)
-Both bells sounds great together.
1: Santa Rita Road Pleasanton, CA
-The Crossing has an US&S; "Teardrop" Bell which are bells produced from the 1910's to the 1960's and is still there! That bell is in a perfect condition and he mix with Griswold a Mechanical Bell sounds even better.
-There are old style RACO EM Mechanisms and Old Griswold Cantilevers which are very cool cantilevers.
-There is a weird 4 inch gate light on the counterweight arm which is very hard to find.

12: Fremont Boulevard (Centerville Station) Fremont, CA
-The slow rated WCH Mechanical Bell and Faster Rated Safetran Mechanical Bell is a Cool mix.
-There are GS LED Lights which are rare in Union Pacific Railroads.
11: Mowry Avenue Newark, CA
-I like the L&W; Incandescent Gate Lights and there are good spaces to park.
10: Central Avenue Newark, CA
-I can see freight trains well from that crossing and constantly goes there.
-This crossing also have rare GS LED Lights on UP Lines.
9: 1st Avenue San Mateo, CA
-I like the WCH Type 2 Electronic Bell, and General Signals Type 1 and 2 Mixed together.
8: 2nd Avenue San Mateo, CA
-The Loud GS Type 1 Electronic Bell is nice to hear mixed with Loud WCH Type 1.5 Electronic Bell.
7: Alvarado Street San Leandro, CA
-The High Pitched Safetran Mechanical Bells have a a Great Mix.
-The Setup is weird and I like it.
6: 4th Avenue San Mateo, CA
-The GS Type 1 Electronic Bell with WCH Type 3 Electronic Bells have an Excellent Mix.
-I like the Setup of the crossing and the Aurora Gate LED Lights at the Pedestrian Gate.
5: Davis Street (CA-112) Niles a Subdivision San Leandro, CA
-This crossing has interesting Light mix.
-This crossing has a Modern Industries Mechanical Bell by me which are hard to find in California.
-The view when a train comes is very cool and easy.
4: Blacow Road Fremont, CA
-The Setup is one of my favorite.
-The bells sound really good and I like the fast rated WCH and Safetran Mechanical Bells.
3: East 25th Avenue San Mateo, CA
-The WCH Mechanical Bells and Type 3 Electronic Bells have a very awesome mix.
-This is the last crossing with mechanical bells left that Caltrain owns.
2: Whipple Road (Niles Subdivision) Union City, CA
-This crossing's Mechanical Bell has a nice pitch of the sound.
-This crossing has a rare WCH Type 1 Electronic Bell (The original WCH Electronic Bell)
-Both bells sounds great together.
1: Santa Rita Road Pleasanton, CA
-The Crossing has an US&S; "Teardrop" Bell which are bells produced from the 1910's to the 1960's and is still there! That bell is in a perfect condition and he mix with Griswold a Mechanical Bell sounds even better.
-There are old style RACO EM Mechanisms and Old Griswold Cantilevers which are very cool cantilevers.
-There is a weird 4 inch gate light on the counterweight arm which is very hard to find.
