Feminist leaders Gloria Steinem and Robin Morgan say the media has a long way to go to including more women in its higher ranks. Nine years ago, Steinem, Morgan and actress/activist Jane Fonda founded the Women's Media Center to promote women in the workplace. "63 percent of everything in media- bylines, print media, TV, the Internet- are by men," said Morgan. "Women (have done well) but women have to be younger. There is more emphasis on their looks. Just as they're getting experience they might get fired. Also, the substance of the news changes," said Steinem. The organization's annual gala will honor two very successful women in the business, Barbara Walters and Katie Couric, among others. Visit WomensMediaCenter.com. http://www.womensmediacenter.com/

As a radical feminist, Morgan doesn't believe that feminism has become less radical. Author, poet, and feminist pioneer Robin Morgan led the New York Radical Women in its unprecedented rebellion against the "the degrading mindless-boob-girlie symbol" created by the Miss America pageant and by the media as a whole. The media certainly took notice. The protest garnered front-page coverage across the country, vaulting the Women's Lib movement, myths and all, into the public consciousness. Morgan's brave and impassioned voice has now been helping to unlock the cages of violence and oppression for over four decades. A founder of contemporary US feminism and a leader in the international women's movement, she's won a National Endowment for the Arts Prize for her poetry and written to acclai...
