---=== Our World on HD ===---
The Greenland ice sheet (Greenlandic: Sermersuaq) is a vast body of ice covering 1,710,000 square kilometres (660,000 sq mi), roughly 80% of the surface of Greenland.
It is the second largest ice body in the world, after the Antarctic Ice Sheet. The ice sheet is almost 2,400 kilometres (1,500 mi) long in a north-south direction, and its greatest width is 1,100 kilometres (680 mi) at a latitude of 77°N, near its northern margin. The mean altitude of the ice is 2,135 metres (7,005 ft). The thickness is generally more than 2 km (1.2 mi) and over 3 km (1.9 mi) at its thickest point. It is not the only ice mass of Greenland – isolated glaciers and small ice caps cover between 76,000 and 100,000 square kilometres (29,000 and 39,000 sq mi) around the periphery. If the entire 2,850,000 cubic kilometres (684,000 cu mi) of ice were to melt, it would lead to a global sea level rise of 7.2 m (24 ft). The Greenland Ice Sheet is sometimes referred to under the term inland ice, or its Danish equivalent, indlandsis. It is also sometimes referred to as an ice cap.
The ice in the current ice sheet is as old as 110,000 years. The presence of ice-rafted sediments in deep-sea cores recovered off of northeast Greenland, in the Fram Strait, and south of Greenland indicated the more or less continuous presence of either an ice sheet or ice sheets covering significant parts of Greenland for the last 18 million years. From just before 11 million years ago to a little after 10 million years ago, the Greenland Ice Sheet appears to have been greatly reduced in size. The Greenland Ice Sheet formed in the middle Miocene by coalescence of ice caps and glaciers. There was an intensification of glaciation during the Late Pliocene.[4]
The weight of the ice has depressed the central area of Greenland; the bedrock surface is near sea level over most of the interior of Greenland, but mountains occur around the periphery, confining the sheet along its margins. If the ice disappeared, Greenland would most probably appear as an archipelago, at least until isostasy lifted the land surface above sea level once again. The ice surface reaches its greatest altitude on two north-south elongated domes, or ridges. The southern dome reaches almost 3,000 metres (10,000 ft) at latitudes 63°–65°N; the northern dome reaches about 3,290 metres (10,800 ft) at about latitude 72°N. The crests of both domes are displaced east of the centre line of Greenland. The unconfined ice sheet does not reach the sea along a broad front anywhere in Greenland, so that no large ice shelves occur. The ice margin just reaches the sea, however, in a region of irregular topography in the area of Melville Bay southeast of Thule. Large outlet glaciers, which are restricted tongues of the ice sheet, move through bordering valleys around the periphery of Greenland to calve off into the ocean, producing the numerous icebergs that sometimes occur in North Atlantic shipping lanes. The best known of these outlet glaciers is Jakobshavn Isbræ (Greenlandic: Sermeq Kujalleq), which, at its terminus, flows at speeds of 20 to 22 metres or 66 to 72 feet per day.
On the ice sheet, temperatures are generally substantially lower than elsewhere in Greenland. The lowest mean annual temperatures, about −31 °C (−24 °F), occur on the north-central part of the north dome, and temperatures at the crest of the south dome are about −20 °C (−4 °F). During winter, the ice sheet takes on a clear blue/green color. During summer, the top layer of ice melts leaving pockets of air in the ice that makes it look white.

If the ice disappeared, Greenland would most probably appear as an archipelago, at least until isostasy lifted the land surface above sea level once again. The ice surface reaches its greatest altitude on two north-south elongated domes, or ridges. The southern dome reaches almost 3,000 metres at latitudes 63°–65°N; the northern dome reaches about 3,290 metres at about latitude 72°N. The best known of these outlet glaciers is Jakobshavn Isbræ, which, at its terminus, flows at speeds of 20 to 22 metres or 66 to 72 feet per day.
On the ice sheet, temperatures are generally substantially lower than elsewhere in Greenland. The lowest mean annual temperatures, about −31 °C, occur on the north-central part of the north dome, and temperatures at the crest of the south dome are about −20 °C.
During winter, the ice sheet takes on a clear blue/green color. During summer, the top layer of ice melts leaving pockets of air in the ice that makes it look white. [Wikipedia]

This animation tracks the relative amount of ice of different ages from 1987 through early November 2014. The oldest ice is white; the youngest (seasonal) ice is dark blue. Key patterns are the export of ice from the Arctic through Fram Strait and the melting of old ice as it passes through the warm waters of the Beaufort Sea.

The mean altitude of the ice is 2,135 metres (7,005 ft).[1] The thickness is generally more than 2 km (1.2 mi) and over 3 km (1.9 mi) at its thickest point.
There was an intensification of glaciation during the Late Pliocene.
The weight of the ice has depressed the central area of Greenland; the bedrock surface is near sea level over most of the interior of Greenland, but mountains occur around the periphery, confining the sheet along its margins. If the entire 2,850,000 km3 (684,000 cu mi) of ice were to melt, global sea levels would rise 7.2 m (24 ft). Recently, fears have grown that continued climate change will make the Greenland Ice Sheet cross a threshold where long-term melting of the ice sheet is inevitable. Climate models project that local warming in Greenland will be 3 °C (5 °F) to 9 °C (16 °F) during this century. Ice sheet models project that such a warming would initiate the long-term melting of the ice sheet, leading to a complete melting of the ice sheet (over centuries), resulting in a global sea level rise of about 7 metres (23 ft)...

Located on the Aker River in Norway’s south east is the beautiful city of Oslo. As well as being the country’s capital and cultural heart, Oslo is also the gateway to Norway’s natural beauty.
In recent years, the rugged dock areas that launched so many adventures have been reinvented as an entertainment hub. Fashionable cafes and restaurants sit easily here amidst centuries of history.
There is a strong naval history here. Visit the Viking Ship Museum to see a stunning display of 800 year-old long-ships and learn how they learned to navigate without compasses. At the Fram Museum, learn how the crews of early polar expeditions survived in one of the coldest and most dangerous places on earth. The nearby Kon-Tiki Museum is a tribute to an epic adventure that captivated and inspired a world, exhausted by the second world war.
One of the world’s most respected awards, the annual Nobel Peace Prize also has its home here. Visit the Noble Peace Center which showcases the achievements of pioneers in world.
Another of Oslo’s premier buildings for which Oslo is known is its Opera House, just a short stroll away. Said to resemble a glacier, it’s gentle sloping roof is a popular meeting place and a great spot to enjoy a panoramic view.
Norway is home to one of the oldest monachys in the world and the Royal Palace, right in the centre of the city is their official residence. Enjoy the beautiful palace park, especially in the summer, when the sun doesn’t set until after 11.00 pm.
No matter where you wander in Oslo, this modern city with a heroic past is full of character, flavour and adventure.

In The Phantom Pain, players take the role of Punished/Venom Snake (also known by his alias Big Boss) in a massive collection of open-world environments. The gameplay elements were largely unchanged from Ground Zeroes, meaning that players will have to sneak from several points in the game world, avoiding enemy guards, and remaining undetected. Included in Snake's repertoire are binoculars, maps, pistols, assault rifles and explosives. Following one of the series traditions, The Phantom Pain encourages players to progress through the game without killing, using non-lethal weapons such as tranquilizer darts to subdue enemies. Players may traverse the game world with vehicles such as cars and tanks, in addition to traveling on foot or on horseback, and as certain locations are mountainous, players can opt to scale a rock face as a short cut. They may also call for friendly helicopter support against enemy soldiers in a combat alert or send commandos to scout a target area. Snake can also call on AI companions—including Quiet, a silent female sniper with supernatural abilities; D-Horse, a horse with a customizable saddle for carrying more equipment in the field; D-Walker, a manned, highly agile mobile weapons platform that can provide heavy weapons support; and DD, a trained wolf acquired on the battlefield of war-torn Africa as a pup and trained on the new Mother Base to assist him in the field. The companions' abilities and their effectiveness will depend on the player's relationship with them

Visiting Oslo City Norway in 2014? This video gives you a 8min
tour in the City of Oslo - Norway with Open Top Sightseeing.
Here's a shorter version of the Oslo City - Norway
experience:
http://youtu.be/cgDtF_raVPA
You stop by most of the major Sights in Oslo City.
and gives you small teasers of each Attractions
The Oslo - Norway Opera House
If you arrived in Oslo City with a Cruise ship this is
most likely the first attraction you pass by.
Oslo Central Station Square at the "bottom" of
the Oslo's "Main Street" Karl Johans Gate.
Here is another Oslo - Norway Video of the Bazar Halls
right in the middle of Karl Johans Gate:
http://youtu.be/jH8AnmBvT1E
Further up in Oslo's Karl Johans Gate you pass
by where Norway's Parliament right in the center of
Oslo City at the "top" of Karl Johans Gate. From here
you get nice view of the Royal Palace.
Oslo's City hall is next stop on the bus Tour
where the whole building (Oslo City Hall that is)
essentially is an art work.
All with artists mainly from Oslo Norway.
Passing the Norwegian Royal Palace the trip goes to
the Vigeland Park which lies in Frogner, one of
Oslo's more expensive areas to live.
The Vigeland Park came to be when the City of Oslo
Norway commissioned the Sculpture Artist Gustav Vigeland to
to build the park. And In so doing Oslo got the
largest Sculpture arrangement dedicated to one artist in
the world. if you want to see more check out our Oslo
Norway video of the Vigeland Park here:
http://youtu.be/scQ0LPe56bo .
After the Vigelan Park the we go on to visit Bygdøy -
which is the Part of Oslo City where you find a lot
of interesting museums. and the first up is Norsk Folkemuseum.
You guessed it ... We also have another Oslo Norway Video of that
right here Called Norsk Folkemuseum;
http://youtu.be/YvUC8ZjttC0.
Then just five minutes walk further down the
road you find the Viking Ship Museum.
For a more in depth look at the Vikings here is
our Oslo Norway Video of the Viking Ship Museum:
http://youtu.be/scQ0LPe56bo
Then comes the Fram, the Maritime & the Kon-Tiki
Museums of Oslo. We haven't yet got video's
from all 3, but here is the Kon-Tiki video amongst
our Oslo Norway Videos:
http://youtu.be/u99nDcoNfRY
And then on your way back to the city center of
Oslo, you pass by Aker Brygge and Tjuvholmen,
which we haven't yet released any videos of yet but
no Oslo City Tour would be complete without it so
it is coming in the near future.
Then finally you get back to the Akershus Fortress
which up through the ages has been the Center of Oslo
& Norway. You can watch our Oslo Norway video of it
right here: http://youtu.be/LCsGnMIBIXM
