Democratic megadonor John Morgan tells “CUOMO” that those who poured money into the Harris-Walz campaign were trying to defeat Trump, not elect Harris. He adds that the reported $1.5 billion spent in four months, which put the party into debt, is proof that Harris should not run again. “If you can’t run a campaign, you can’t run America,” Morgan said.

Social Democrat leader Kern arrives to vote in Austria Election
(15 Oct 2017) The incumbent Chancellor of Austria and Social Democrat Leader Christian Kern arrived at a polling station to cast his vote on Sunday in the country's election.
Voters will decide whether the country moves right after decades of centrist policies and the result could pave the way for Europe's youngest government leader.
Three parties are vying for first place in Sunday's national election: the Social Democrats, the People's Party and the Freedom Party.
Kern's centre-left Social Democrats have campaigned on reducing social inequality.
The other two have focused on concerns about immigration and Islam.
Both the People's Party and the Freedom Party have called for securing Austria's borders and quickly deporting asylum-seekers whose requests are denied.

The failed anti-democratic attempt to stop Austria’s Freedom Party | Elisabeth Dieringer MEP
The "Firewall" That’s Destroying Democracy – Exposing the EU's Power Play
They call it a “firewall.” They claim it protects democracy. But what it really does is cancel elections, silence opposition, and blacklist dissent.
🔹 Unfavorable election results? Ignored.
🔹 Opposition voices? Persecuted.
🔹 Social media? Censored under government pressure.
Democracy is about dialogue, compromise, and representation—yet in Brussels, it has become a tool for the ruling elite to crush dissent. If you question the Green Deal, mass migration, or radical social policies, you’re labeled “far-right” and excluded from the debate.
The firewall isn’t about protecting democracy. It’s about protecting power. And across Europe—from Austria to Italy, from Germany to Hungary—voters are waking up.

Austria’s Social Democratic Party (SPÖ) at the crossroads (1/2)
Austria’s Social Democratic Party (SPÖ) is currently determining its new leader. Over the past years, the SPÖ has failed to make political headway in the context of inflation, declining real wages, rising rents and impoverishment as the largest opposition party. Following the debacle in the 2023 Carinthian election, the SPÖ decided to hold a membership referendum on who should lead the party into the future.
Pamela Rendi-Wagner is supported by the party establishment, apparatchiks, and most former chancellors. She stands for a chic, capital-friendly, state-managerial, technocratic and “more of the same” SPÖ, devoid of the party’s working-class and trade-unionist tradition. Her main rival Hans Peter Doskozil, on the other ha...

STORYLINE:
Austria's opposition Social Democrats staged a comeback on Sunday in nationwide elections, winning a slim lead over Chancellor Wolfgang Schuessel's centre-right People's Party, final unofficial returns showed.
With all but absentee ballots counted, the centre-left bloc won 35.7 per cent and the People's Party trailed with 34.2 per cent, Interior Minister Liese Prokop announced.
The results made it likely that Social Democratic chief Alfred Gusenbauer would become the country's new chancellor.
Gusenbauer said he was touched by the initial results and vowed not to disappoint his supporters
"The Austrian people want honesty, they want chances, they want justice that's why they put their hopes into the Social Democrat party and we will not disappoint them."
Although Schuessel from the People's Party did not formally concede the election, he congratulated Gusenbauer, whose party has been in opposition since 2000.
"It looks like it wasn't enough but we don't yet know how the absentee ballots will influence the final result but it would need a small miracle to put us back in power," Schuessel said.
Gusenbauer declined to proclaim outright victory, saying he would wait for all the votes to be counted.
Christoph Hofinger, co-director of the SORA (Institute for Social Research and Analysis) that calculated the election night forecast for Austrian television, said there were about 250-thousand valid absentee votes to be tallied between now and October 9, when the final results must be certified.
The battle for third place was also tight, with the rightist Freedom Party and the leftist Greens, headed by Alexander Van der Bellen running neck and neck.

This speech rips the mask off the EU’s suppression machine and asks: Who are the real enemies of democracy?

(15 Oct 2017) The incumbent Chancellor of Austria and Social Democrat Leader Christian Kern has cast his vote on Sunday in the country's election.
Polls show the popularity of People's Party head Sebastian Kurz has put his party ahead.
The 31-year-old Kurz would become Europe's youngest leader if his party wins and he can form a government

Her main rival Hans Peter Doskozil, on the other hand, wants to push the party more to the right, following the Danish social democratic model. Doskozil presents himself as an anti-immigration hard-liner and as an advocate for minor social policy: tougher border protections, a more restrictive migration policy and an increase in the minimum wage.
Yet the candidacy that has drawn the most attention was that of Andreas Babler. For many years, Babler has been a leading leftist voice within the SPÖ. With him, the party’s left has now, after decades of being disenfranchised, a real chance to assume the leadership. Babler's campaign has reminded the SPÖ of its radical roots. His campaign has shifted the public discourse to the left, and his program is comparable to the Green New Deal, proposed by Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in the US. Babler's candidacy has mobilized and re-politicized the party and Austrian civil society. The coming weeks will be crucial for defining the future of the SPÖ. Independently of the result in the referendum, Babler’s candidacy has shaken up the Austrian political landscape, possibly for years to come.

STORYLINE
Initial projections after the close of Austrian polls indicate the Social Democrats will take first place in parliamentary elections, while the country's two far-right parties appeared set for a resurgence.
The SORA Institute for Social Analysis and Research says its projections have a margin of error of plus or minus 1.5 percent.
The projections indicate the Social Democrats are leading with 28.6 percent of the vote, followed by the People's Party with 25.1 percent.
The institute says Austria's two far-right parties together are projected to take at least 29 percent of the vote.
The Freedom Party, led by Heinz-Christian Strache, appears to have 17.9 percent of the vote while the Alliance for the Future of Austria, led by Joerg Haider, is likely to have 11.9 percent.
Some voters asked about the projections said a Freedom Party resurgence would be frightening.
The governing coalition of the conservative People's Party and the centre-left Social Democrats crumbled in July after months of bickering.
What followed was a summer-long election campaign involving 10 parties on a national level. Four less-known groups were also on the ballot in several districts.
Some 6.3 (m) million people were eligible to vote, including 16 and 17-year-olds under a new law that dropped the minimum voting age.
In total, 183 seats in parliament were to be filled.
In 1999, Haider, then leader of the Freedom Party, raked in 27 percent of the vote.
His party's subsequent inclusion in the government, despite international alarm over statements seen as anti-Semitic or sympathetic to Adolf Hitler's labour policies, triggered months of European Union sanctions.
Haider has since toned down his rhetoric and generally appears more moderate.
Not so the other leading rightist, Heinz-Christian Strache of the Freedom Party, whose campaign has been laced with anti-Islamic statements such as "the minaret has no place in Austria."
His supporters contend he is not a racist and argue he is the only politician representing the concerns and interests of ordinary Austrians.
Despite the right's predicted gains, analysts say it was unclear whether they would become part of the next governing coalition.

Bad News, Democrats: America Is About to Get Even Redder | NYT Opinion
Every year, millions of Americans bounce around the country like electrons, moving from one state to another.
