Uganda Peoples Defence Forces; Special Forces Command (SFC), under the First Son, has released a video showcasing their training and combat capabilities as part of the activities to mark the 35th annual Armed Forces Week and Tarehe Sita celebrations.
The Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) has been ranked amongst the strongest forces in Africa. A report by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) released by Global Fire Power, a military research organization under CIA ranks Uganda’s army 16th in Africa and 92nd in the world. This report has been met with mixed reactions within the UPDF and security analysts. Jordan Mubangizi reports.
Nine Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) soldiers serving under the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) have been sentenced to prison for misconduct. The soldiers were found guilty of pursuing personal interest and endangering operational efficiency of the UPDF, contrary to section 124 of the UPDF Act. The nine were part of a group of soldiers implicated in a fuel racket that was busted by AMISOM officials in June.
President and Commander in Chief of Defense Forces General Yoweri Museveni last evening passed out 2941 new UPDF recruits at Kaweweta Recruits Training School. These were part of the 3,066 recruits in the school’s 13th intake. Museveni challenged the graduates to promote the spirit of nationalism as they interface with civilians during deployments.

Her close friends have gathered.
Lord, ain’t it a shame
Grieving together
Sharing the blame.
But when she was dying
Lord, we let her down.
There’s no use cryin’
It can’t help her now.
The party’s all over
Drink up and go home.
It’s too late to love her
And leave her alone.
Just say she was someone
Lord, so far from home
Whose life was so lonesome
She died all alone
Who dreamed pretty dreams
That never came true
Lord, why was she born
So black and blue?
Oh, why was she born
So black and blue?
