Philippe Sarde (born 21 June 1945) is a French composer.
Philippe Sarde was born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Hauts-de-Seine, Île-de-France, France. He is the brother of producer Alain Sarde. He was a member of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival in 1988.
His mother, Andrée Gabriel , was a singer in the Paris Opera . He studied harmony, counterpoint, fugue and composition with Noël Gallon. At 17 he directed a short film (35 mm) in black and white, for which he composed the music, asking Vladimir Cosma to help him with the orchestration. He hesitated between filmmaking and music. At 18 he met Claude Sautet, who offered him the opportunity to write the music for his film The Things of Life. Thus began a long career.
He married Nave Florence in April 1990. They divorced a year later. He married Clotilde Burre in 1994. They have two daughters, Ponette (born 1998) and Liza (born 1999). Both are enrolled in the seventeenth arrondissement of Paris.
