Tamil cinema
The cinema of Tamil Nadu is a part of Indian cinema, producing films in the Tamil language. Based in the Kodambakkam district of Chennai, India, the industry is colloquially referred to as Kollywood, the term being a portmanteau of the words Kodambakkam and Hollywood.
The first silent film in Tamil, Keechaka Vadham, was made by R. Nataraja Mudaliar in 1916. The first talkie was a multi-lingual, Kalidas, which released on 31 October 1931, barely 7 months after India's first talking picture Alam Ara By the end of the 1930s, the legislature of the State of Madras passed the Entertainment Tax Act of 1939. Tamil cinema later had a profound effect on other filmmaking industries of India, establishing Chennai as a secondary hub for Bollywood, other regional film industries in South India, as well as Sri Lankan cinema. In its modern era, Tamil films from Chennai have been distributed to various overseas theaters in Singapore, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Malaysia, Japan, Oceania, the Middle East, Western Europe, and North America. The industry also inspired independent filmmaking in Tamil diaspora populations in Malaysia, Singapore, and the Western Hemisphere.

Sadagoppan wants to get his daughters married to grooms who do not require any dowry. His three daughters Indra (Sangita), Sundari (Kovai Sarala), and Lakshmi (Rekha) marry an auto-rickshaw driver Muthupandi (Pandiarajan), a Corporation worker Sekar (Vadivelu), and a cook Murugesan (R. Sundarrajan), respectively. Although no dowry was paid, the three wayward husbands want to rely on their wives' property and ask for some money to start their own businesses for which the wives agree.
Raj Chander falls in love with an MLA's daughter and his wedding is arranged. At the wedding, Muthupandi, Sekar, and Murugesan feel insulted and picks up a quarrel which leads to trouble. Raj Chander asks them to leave the wedding hall and their wives also leave with them. Also, Raj Chander does not permit his father to give any money to his sisters' husbands. This brings up quarrels between the three couples.
Unable to bear her daughters' sufferings, Meenakshi falls ill and dies. The three wives decide to work in a garment factory against their husband's wish to support their families. Raj Chander wants to start a factory by selling Sadagopan's house for which Sadagopan's daughters disagree. Quarrels erupt between them and finally, Sadagopan beats up his son which makes him realize the mistake. Sadagopan also understands the importance of his daughters.

The film was remade in Malayalam as Arjunan Pillayum Anchu Makkalum, in Kannada as Ellara Mane Dosenu, and in Telugu as Family.
Sadagopan (Vinu Chakravarthy) and Meenakshi (Vadivukkarasi) have four daughters and a son (Raj Chander). Sadagopan always thinks that the son is an asset to him and the daughters are a burden on his head. Sadagopan then searches grooms for his educated three elder daughters and with the help of Iyer (Venniradai Moorthy). Sadagoppan wants to get his daughters married to grooms who do not require any dowry. His three daughters Indra (Sangita), Sundari (Kovai Sarala), and Lakshmi (Rekha) marry an auto-rickshaw driver Muthupandi (Pandiarajan), a Corporation worker Sekar (Vadivelu), and a cook Murugesan (R. Sundarrajan), respectively. Although no dowry was paid, the three wayward husbands want to rely on their wives' property and ask for some money to start their own businesses for which the wives agree.
Raj Chander falls in love with an MLA's daughter and his wedding is arranged. At the wedding, Muthupandi, Sekar, and Murugesan feel insulted and picks up a quarrel which leads to trouble. Raj Chander asks them to leave the wedding hall and their wives also leave with them. Also, Raj Chander does not permit his father to give any money to his sisters' husbands. This brings up quarrels between the three couples.
Unable to bear her daughters' sufferings, Meenakshi falls ill and dies. The three wives decide to work in a garment factory against their husband's wish to support their families. Raj Chander wants to start a factory by selling Sadagopan's house for which Sadagopan's daughters disagree. Quarrels erupt between them and finally, Sadagopan beats up his son which makes him realize the mistake. Sadagopan also understands the importance of his daughters.

Purushan Pondatti (transl. Husband and Wife) is a 1996 Tamil-language comedy drama film directed by N. K. Viswanathan. The film stars Pandiarajan and Ranjitha. It was released on 6 December 1996.[1] The film was a remake of Kannada film Ranjitha.
Plot
Pandian (Pandiarajan), a sale representative, gets married with Rajeswari (Ranjitha). Pandian's mother Vadivu (Vadivukkarasi) is a miser while his father Velmurugan (Manivannan) is a good man and they also have three daughters. Vadivu takes advantage of Rajeswari's salary and dowry. For the marriage of her first daughter Malini (Latha), Vadivu uses Rajeswari's jewels. Then, the groom (Thyagu) losses his job, so Pandian and Rajeswari decide to abortion for the benefit of the family. In the meantime, Malini becomes pregnant. Rajeswari, who was angry to be treated as a cash cow by Vadivu, resigns from her job. Vadivu, who expected a lot from her salary, gets then too upset and she tries to set Rajeswari on fire but Velmurugan saves her. Rajeswari then leaves Pandian's house and begins to find a job and have the opportunity to be independent some day. Despite the fact that she looks for a job everywhere, she could not find one. So she becomes a dressmaker and after that, she becomes a successful entrepreneur of a clothes factory. Meanwhile, Pandian's family are crippled with debts. What transpires later forms the crux of the story.

96 is a 2018 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film that features Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha Krishnan in the lead roles. It is a situational love-story focalizing on a travel-photographer Ramachandran aka Ram who gets nostalgic on rewinding the memories of his childhood sweetheart Janaki Devi aka Jaanu during a reunion ceremony with his school classmates.
The film written and directed by C. Prem Kumar and produced by S. Nanthagopal for Madras Enterprises, the music for the film was composed by Govind Vasantha, Mahendiran Jayaraju and N. Shanmuga Sundaram handled the cinematography and R. Govindaraj edited the film while the costumes were designed by Subhashree Kaarthik Vijay.
