Montenegro has been the site of many domestic films.

Notable theatres include the Montenegrin National Theatre in Podgorica, the Theatre of Nikšić in Nikšić, and the City Theatre in Podgorica. Montenegrin National Theatre is the only professional theatre and along with the Faculty of Drama, located in Cetinje is responsible for the lion share of the theatre production in the country. During Summer months, City Theatre in Budva takes precedence as a stage for performers coming from all corners of former Yugoslavia and the world.

Montenegro (ⁱ/ˌmɒntɨˈneɪɡroʊ/ or /ˌmɒntɨˈniːɡroʊ/; or /ˌmɒntɨˈnɛɡroʊ/; Montenegrin: Crna Gora Црна Гора [tsr̩̂ːnaː ɡɔ̌ra] ( listen), meaning "Black Mountain") is a country in Southeastern Europe. It has a coast on the Adriatic Sea to the south-west and is bordered by Croatia to the west, Bosnia and Herzegovina to the northwest, Serbia to the northeast and Albania to the southeast. Its capital and largest city is Podgorica, while Cetinje is designated as the Prijestonica (Пријестоница), meaning the former Royal Capital City.

In the 10th century, there existed three Slavic principalities on the territory of Montenegro: Duklja, roughly corresponding to the southern half, Travunia, the west, and Rascia, the north. In 1042, archon Stefan Vojislav led a revolt that resulted in independence of Duklja and the establishment of the Vojislavljević dynasty. Duklja reached its zenith under Vojislav's son, Mihailo (1046–81), and his son Bodin (1081–1101). By the 13th century, Zeta had replaced Duklja when referring to the realm, which at the time was part of the Serbian Grand Principality of the Nemanjić dynasty.

Alex Holdridge is an American writer/director based in Venice, California.

His first film, Wrong Numbers, was a low-budget comedy about two 18-year-old boys who set out to forget their girlfriend troubles and buy a six pack on the last night of school. The movie won the Audience Award at the Austin Film Festival in 2001.

His next film, Sexless, won both the jury and audience awards at the 2003 South by Southwest Film Festival. It is a sex comedy about twenty-something couples' last month in Austin, Texas.

Holdridge wrote and directed the 2008 film In Search of a Midnight Kiss, a romantic comedy which was listed by the National Board of Review as one of the Top 10 Independent Films of 2008, and was nominated for the Independent Spirit John Cassavetes Award.
