This is a list of episodes for The Bob Newhart Show, which was originally broadcast on CBS from 1972 to 1978, spanning six seasons and 142 half-hour episodes.
At present, the first four seasons have been released on DVD by 20th Century Fox.
George Robert "Bob" Newhart (born on September 5, 1929) is an American stand-up comedian and actor. Noted for his deadpan and slightly stammering delivery, Newhart came to prominence in the 1960s when his album of comedic monologues The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart was a worldwide bestseller and reached number one on the Billboard pop album chart—it remains the 20th best-selling comedy album in history. The follow-up album, The Button-Down Mind Strikes Back! was also a massive success, and the two albums held the Billboard number one and number two spots simultaneously.
Newhart later went into acting, starring in two long-running and award-winning situation comedies, first as psychologist Dr. Robert "Bob" Hartley on the 1970s sitcom The Bob Newhart Show and then as innkeeper Dick Loudon on the 1980s sitcom Newhart. He also had two short-lived sitcoms in the nineties titled Bob and George and Leo. Newhart also appeared in film roles such as Major Major in Catch-22 and Papa Elf in Elf. He provided the voice of Bernard in the Walt Disney animated films The Rescuers and The Rescuers Down Under. In 2004 he played the library head Judson in The Librarian, a character which continued in 2014 to the TV series The Librarians. In 2013, Newhart made his first of four guest appearances on The Big Bang Theory, for which he received his first Primetime Emmy Award on September 15, 2013.
Suzanne Pleshette (January 31, 1937 – January 19, 2008) was an American actress and voice actress. After beginning her career in the theatre, she began appearing in films in the early 1960s, such as Rome Adventure (1962) and Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds (1963). She later appeared in various television productions, often in guest roles, and played Emily Hartley on The Bob Newhart Show from 1972 until 1978, receiving several Emmy Award nominations for her work. She continued acting until 2004, four years before her death.
Pleshette was born in Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn, New York City. Her parents were Jewish and the children of immigrants from Russia and Austria-Hungary. Her mother, Geraldine (née Kaplan), was a dancer and artist who performed under the stage name Geraldine Rivers. Her father, Eugene Pleshette, was a stage manager, network executive and manager of the Paramount Theater in Brooklyn. She graduated from Manhattan's High School of Performing Arts and then attended Syracuse University for one semester before transferring to Finch College. She later graduated from Manhattan's prestigious acting school, The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre, and was under the tutelage of renowned acting teacher Sanford Meisner.
Peter Bonerz (born August 6, 1938 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire) is an American actor and director who is best known for his role as Dr. Jerry Robinson on The Bob Newhart Show.
Born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Bonerz grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he attended Marquette University High School, gaining his first theatrical experience with the Prep Players under rigid conditions. At Marquette University he participated in the Marquette University Players under the Reverend John J. Walsh, S.J. After graduating with a bachelor of science degree in 1960, he decided to seek a career in theater, beginning with The Premise, an improv group in New York City. After compulsory service as a draftee in the United States Army, he joined The Committee, an improv troupe in San Francisco, California.
His first network television appearance was in 1965 on The Addams Family in the season-two episode "Morticia, The Writer". He had several more TV appearances in the late 1960s and also had roles in several films, including Funnyman (1967), What Ever Happened to Aunt Alice? (1969), Medium Cool (1969), Catch-22 (1970), which also included his future co-star Bob Newhart, Jennifer on My Mind (1971) and Fuzz (1972). In 1971, Bonerz was part of an ensemble cast in the short-lived improvisational television show Story Theatre, which also included Alan Alda and Valerie Harper. In 1972, he landed the popular supporting role of Dr. Jerry Robinson, the eccentric orthodontist on The Bob Newhart Show, whose most frequent comic foil was Marcia Wallace as Carol, the sharp-tongued receptionist. He also directed 29 episodes. The show ran for six seasons, with ratings among the top 20 in the first three seasons and voiced Sal in the Aaahh!!! Real Monsters episode "Internal Affairs".
The Bob Newhart Show is an American comedy variety show starring comedian Bob Newhart. It originally ran from October 1961 through June 1962 on NBC, airing on Wednesday nights at 10pm Eastern time, immediately following Perry Como's Kraft Music Hall. The variety show was sponsored by Kraft Foods's Sealtest Dairy division.
The show was awarded the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Program Achievement in the Field of Humor (now known as the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series) in 1962. It was also nominated for the Writing Achievement in Comedy Award for Roland Kibbee, Bob Newhart, Don Hinkley, Milt Rosen, Ernest Chambers, Dean Hargrove, Robert Kaufman, Norm Liebmann, Charles Sherman, Howard Snyder and Larry Siegel, but they lost to Carl Reiner for The Dick Van Dyke Show. The show also won a Peabody Award in 1961.
This is included on the season 4 dvd of "The Bob Newhart Show" Disclaimer: I don't own anything. This is just for entertainment purposes and hopefully to get more people interested in one of the greatest sitcoms in television history.

This is my favorite TV theme song. The incredibly jazzy/funky Bob Newhart Show theme. Not the first season theme, with the telephone ringing....
Cool disco funked up version of the tune once penned by Pat Williams for the hit 70s show starring Bob Newhart
This is the "unedited" version of the theme to Newhart. Most of the time, the viewer hears only the shortened version on TV.
A classic theme song from "Television's Greatest Hits: Vol. 3" from "The Bob Newhart Show." Composed by Lorenzo Music and Henrietta Music.
A transcription project for my bass guitar/composition lessons. Fairly confident of the melody and bass parts...the D chord in measure 21 might be a C dim instead. I made an effort to stay close to the original 1972 version of the song, but there are a few variations.
Opening theme (HQ) from the Bob Newhart Show from the mid 1970's
Starring Bob Newhart, Suzanne Pleshette, Peter Bonerz, Marcia Wallace, Bill Daily, Jack Riley. With Guest Stars Tom Poston, John Fiedler, Pat Finley. It was a kind of coincidence that this week, there was
a movie on bomb disposals in Germany and... then there
was an item in the papers about this plane that was
flying along and somehow, a bomb came loose and fell...
it didn't explode, it landed and they had to send out
an expert team to disarm the bomb. It's always an
expert, courageous team of men who disarm these
bombs... and I got to wondering what would happen if a
team of non-experts ever tried to disarm one of these
bombs... and I picture a very small coastal city with a
beach... and we see the police chief who's sitting in
his office and he's expecting nothing more than a phone
call from one of his patrolmen on the beach... and I
think it would go, something like this...
Er... hello, Lieutenant Stevenson here...
Patrolman Hackmaster?...
Oh! hello Willard, you're a little late reporting in
aren't you, Willard?...
You've found a shell on the beach?...
You think that's unusual, do you Willard, finding a
shell on the beach?...
It's not that kind of shell?...
What's the matter, Willard, doesn't it sound like the
ocean when you hold it up to your ear?...
Oh! that kind of shell!...
Well, I'll tell you what, Willard, I'll send somebody
out in the morning and we can er...
Oh! is that right?...
I was sort of hoping it was your watch making that
noise...
I'm gonna give it to you straight, Willard. Willard,
you've got a live one there!
WILLARD!!!...
Don't hang up...
That's an order, Willard...
And stop that whining!...
Now, you're perfectly safe, Willard, there's nothing to
worry about as long as it's ticking...
Er, when it stops ticking, that's something else again,
Willard.
Now, listen Willard, get control of yourself...
You and I are going to disarm that thing...
I've got the instruction manual...
Well, no! I'm not coming down there, Willard...
Well, I mean I can't just leave the office anytime I
want to!...
NO!!!...
DON'T BRING IT IN HERE, WILLARD, NO!!!
Now look, Willard, I'm taking just as big a chance as
you are, I mean, this is my responsibility, if that
thing goes off, it's me they're gonna wanna to talk to,
not you, ya know!
Alright now, Willard, describe it to me...
Uh... it sounds like some sort of torpedo, Willard...
It must be one of ours!...
It says, 'Made in Japan' huh?...
Well, it could still be one of ours, Willard. Is there
a serial number or anything like that, on it?...
X5307... er, let me look that up, Willard, just a
minute...
Oh boy!... you've found a beauty there, Willard. Ha!
ha!... d'ya know how powerful that baby is?...
Six city blocks, Willard. ha! ha!...
What d'ya mean , you'll call me back?...
There's a phonebox seven blocks away...
WILLARD!!!...
Now, stop that whining, Willard!...
Willard, I know this is dangerous, but if we can save
one human life...
Oh, that's the way you feel about, huh?...
Look Willard, control yourself now...
Listen Willard, according to this, there's a... Er, how
long has that thing been ticking?...
About 5 - 6 minutes, huh?...
Huh?
Oh!... Er... nothing, Willard, nothing... we're just
gonna have to work a little faster than I thought!
Willard, according to the manual here, about six inches
from the tail-end of it, there's a plate...
Yeh, and it's held on by four screws...
Now it says, now this is very important, it says, 'This
plate should be removed with an LT5 screwdriver with a
plastic handle and a de-magnetised tip'...
Oh, you don't have one, huh?...
Augh!... use a coin then, Willard!...
Okay?... you got it off then, Willard?...
Boy! that thing sure is complicated... I can't make
heads nor tails outa this...
No, don't worry, Willard, I'll get that thing fixed if
it's the last thing... er, we'll take care of it, don't
worry about it...
Listen Willard, there's a kind of a little hootymajig
thing in there... a wheel of some kind! Why don't you
try turning the wheel, Willard?...
Oh, I don't know... turn it to the left and see what
happens...
Yeh!...
I can hear it, Willard, it's ticking a lot faster,
isn't it?...
Er!... you'd better turn it back, Willard!
Okay! let's see...
Listen, there are two wires here. It says here, 'Under
no conditions...
Oh! someone's spilled coffee over this page...
Well, one is a kind of greyish-blue and the other one
is a kind of er, bluish-grey...
Willard!...
Who are you talking to there?...
A LITTLE BOY!!!...
Willard, get him out of there! if that thing goes off,
we're...
He says it's his?...
It's a toy torpedo?...
Willard, let me talk to the kid, will ya?...
He ran down to the beach with it?
Willard, I think you'd better come into the office, we
ought to have a little talk... you hung me up here for
ten minutes because of a kid...
Willard!...
What was that noise?...
The toy torpedo just sunk a fishing trawler, huh?
Well, that's alright, Willard... it's out of our hands
now, 'cos now its in the Coast Guard's, right?...
Right!
