He was known for his portrayal of a Louisiana sharecropper who struggles to support his family during the Great Depression in the landmark film Sounder, which earned him an Academy Award nomination. He portrayed Martin Luther King, Jr. in the 1978 television miniseries King, for which he was nominated for an Emmy Award. Winfield was also known to science fiction fans for his roles in The Terminator, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Early years
Winfield was born in Los Angeles, California, to Lois Beatrice Edwards, a union organizer in the garment industry. His stepfather from the age of eight was Clarence Winfield, a city trash collector and construction worker. He graduated from Manual Arts High School in Los Angeles. From there, he attended the University of Portland, 1957–59; Stanford University, 1959; Los Angeles City College, 1959–63; University of California, Los Angeles, 1962–64; University of Hawaii, 1965 and the University of California, Santa Barbara, 1970-71.

Jon Voight
Jonathan Vincent "Jon" Voight (/vɔɪt/; born December 29, 1938) is an American actor. He is the winner of one Academy Award, having been nominated for four. He has also won four Golden Globe Awards and nominated for ten. He is the father of actress Angelina Jolie and actor James Haven.
Voight came to prominence in the late 1960s with his performance as a would-be gigolo in Midnight Cowboy (1969). During the 1970s, he became a Hollywood star with his portrayals of a businessman mixed up with murder in Deliverance (1972); a paraplegic Vietnam veteran in Coming Home (1978), for which he won an Academy Award for Best Actor; and a penniless ex-boxing champion in the remake of The Champ (1979).
Although his output slowed during the 1980s, Voight received critical acclaim for his performance as a ruthless bank robber in Runaway Train (1985). During the 1990s, he most notably starred as an unscrupulous showman attorney in The Rainmaker (1997). Voight gave critically acclaimed biographical performances during the 2000s, appearing as sportscaster Howard Cosell in Ali (2001), as Nazi officer Jürgen Stroop in Uprising (2001), and as Pope John Paul II in the eponymous miniseries (2005). Voight also appears in Showtime's Ray Donovan TV series as Mickey Donovan.

Synopsis:
The jazz musician Steve Harvey, was murdered on Nov 5th, 1980 in a Kansas City park. By most accounts Steve was a kind and outgoing person who loved music to the point of having his instrument in the same bed he shared with his wife. Steve was in Penn Valley Park on Nov 5th 1980 because he liked the way the acoustics sounded when he practice his instrument. 19 year old Raymond Bledsoe who considered throwing rocks and bricks at Blacks from a pickup truck a recreation sport. Believing Steve to be gay on top of being Black, Bledsoe chased him out of the bathroom with a baseball bat and preceded to beat him to death.
But despite Bledsoe openly bragging about beating a Black man to death and his two friends getting off free because they snitched, an all white jury found Bledsoe not guilty in 1981. Civil rights activist Alvin Sykes, Steve’s friend who along with his widow Rhea were not going to rest until a conviction was upheld. Alvin’s research led to him discovering a federal law that made it illegal for ones rights to be violated while using a public facility. The second federal trial started in 1983 and despite the jury being an all White one yet again, this time there was testimony from a witness, that the FBI tracked down via medical records the night of the attack.
The White man that Bledsoe let escape provided evidence that sent Bledsoe to prison for life for violating Steve’s civil rights. And as of 2013 Bledsoe was denied parole for the fourth time.
