Doreen is a woman's name, usually found in English speaking countries. It is a combination of Dora with the suffix -een, therefore it can be said to mean "gift" from Greek doron . The -een suffix could also be related to the ín suffix used in the Irish language, added to first names to distinguish a child with the same first name as her or his parent.
Doreen Virtue (born 1958) is an American author and a "folk psychology motivational speaker". She is the founder of Angel Therapy, a type of New Age therapy based "on the premise that communicating with angels is the key to healing. Angel therapists claim they can facilitate healing by helping their patients get in touch with angels who will guide the patients in the right direction." Virtue has written over 50 books including oracle card decks on the subject of angels and other New Age topics.
Virtue states of herself "Doreen worked as a psychotherapist specializing in healing eating disorders, until ... 1995". According to website 'Best Psychic Readings' she had earlier worked as editor of a local newspaper 'The San Marcos Outlook' from leaving high school apparently until taking up therapy.
Virtue received an associate degree in liberal arts from Antelope Valley College in Lancaster, California, and obtained a B.A. in Psychology in 1986 and an M.A. in Counseling psychology in 1988 from Chapman University in Orange, California. (Master's programs in psychology are not accredited by the American Psychological Association; accreditation is reserved for doctoral programs and internships.) Virtue got a Doctorate of Philosophy in Psychology from California Coast University in 1996. (CCU received accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council in 2005, and is accredited for its program is Educational Psychology. CCU is not accredited by the American Psychological Association.) The subject of her dissertation was the tendency of adults who suffered childhood sexual abuse to develop addictions such as eating disorders.

Well when I first met Doreen she was barely 17
She was drinking whiskey sours in the bar
And the way she tossed them back I nearly had a heart attack
Cause as it is I let her drive my car
We were galloping through the Burroughs like a pair of horny thoroughbreds
Until I said stop the car Doreen
And you can roll your eyes and nod but I swear that I saw God
In the moonlight on a side street in the wreckage we call Queens
Chorus
Doreen, Doreen
Last night I had an awful dream
You were lying in the arms of a man I'd never seen
Come clean
Doreen
Come clean
Doreen
We were rolling into Cleveland in a seven seater tour van
There's 8 of us and I'm sleeping on the floor
And the guy who plays the banjo keeps on passing me the Old Crow
It multiplies my sorrow I can't take it anymore
Chorus
Now I'm begging and I'm pleading, well pull over guys I'm bleeding
There's a Fina off the highway with a phone
And I'm calling you Doreen and it rings and rings and rings
Where is it that you are if you're not in our bed at home?
