THE IRANIAN AMERICANS chronicles the underreported history of a group of immigrants finding refuge, overcoming adversity and ultimately creating new lives in the United States. Even though Iran is in the news virtually every day, many Americans have little knowledge of the story of the hundreds of thousands of Iranians who live in the U.S. The special is presented by the network’s flagship station in Greater Los Angeles and Southern California, PBS SoCaL.
Mazandaran Province is a Caspian province in the north of Iran. The diverse nature of the province features plains, prairies, forests and rainforest stretching from the sandy beaches of the Caspian Sea to the rugged and snowcapped Alborz sierra, including Mount Damavand, one of the highest peaks and volcanos in Asia.
“A Separation” is the first Iranian movie to get the honour. The film, directed by Asghar Farhadi, is about a married couple faced with a difficult decision – to improve the life of their child by moving to another country or to stay in Iran and look after a deteriorating parent who has Alzheimers.

Elham Ataei Azar was born in 1984 in the city of Tabriz in northwestern Iran. She has earned her Masters in Physics. In this cartoon set, she is displaying 31 digitally created artworks about the different characters of women’s wagons in Tehran Metro. Ataei Azar held an exhibition in early September in Tehran displaying this group of works as Men Do Not Enter.
The pomegranate is native to Iran and from there it spread to Asian areas such as the Caucasus, the Himalayas in Northern India and in Kerala. Introduced into Latin America and California by Spanish settlers in 1769.
Lake Urmia (a Syriac name meaning city of water), is the third largest salt lake on earth located in northwestern Iran.

270 Iranian artists showcased their works during the festival along with more than 50 participants from other countries. The event included paintings, caricatures, drawings, sculptures, graphic designs, calligraphies, illustrations, pottery, ceramic and photographs created by young artists.
While this play shares the same name as the iconic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, it’s a black comedy about little people with a short-sighted belief system who are challenged in getting to their tall dreams of being supreme in a predetermined game of life. The play is directed by Nasir Malekjo and performed at Tehran’s City Theater.
Despite the teachings of Islam and the kindness that the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) showed towards animals – including dogs, the Iranian government have imposed various bans and penalties on dog ownership and handling, and, more drastically, a large campaign has been underway to destroy all stray dogs.
