George Gershwin (September 26, 1898 – July 11, 1937) was an American composer and pianist. Gershwin's compositions spanned both popular and classical genres, and his most popular melodies are widely known. Among his best known works are the orchestral compositions Rhapsody in Blue and An American in Paris, as well as the opera Porgy and Bess.
Born in Brooklyn to a Ukrainian father of Jewish descent and a Russian mother, Gershwin studied piano under Charles Hambitzer and composition with Rubin Goldmark and Henry Cowell. He began his career as a song plugger, but soon thereafter started composing Broadway theatre works with his brother Ira Gershwin and Buddy DeSylva. He moved to Paris in an attempt to study with Nadia Boulanger, where he began to compose An American in Paris. After returning to New York City, he wrote Porgy and Bess with Ira and author DuBose Heyward. Initially a commercial failure, Porgy and Bess is now considered one of the most important American operas of the Twentieth Century. Gershwin moved to Hollywood and composed numerous film scores until his death in 1937 from a brain tumor.
Robert Haymes (March 29, 1923 - January 27, 1989), also known under the stage names Robert Stanton and Bob Stanton, was an American singer, songwriter, actor and radio and television host. He is best remembered today for co-writing the song "That's All", considered part of the Great American Songbook. He was the younger brother of singer and actor Dick Haymes.
Haymes was born in White Plains, New York to parents of Irish descent from Buenos Aires, Argentina. He had an older brother by seven years, Dick Haymes, who was born when the family was still in Argentina, and who would later achieve great fame as an actor and singer.
Haymes began his career in the early 1940s as a vocalist in the bands of Carl Hoff and Bob Chester.
In 1942 Haymes began work, under the name "Bob Stanton", for the radio show Gillette Cavalcade of Sports. He continued with the program until 1946, when it was turned into a television show on NBC; he then became the host of the television show until 1949. He also began to serve as the host of other NBC shows, all under the name "Bob Stanton", including game show Campus Hoopla during the show's run from 1946 to 1947, Television Screen Magazine in 1948, the country music show Village Barn in 1949, and the show Around the Town in 1950.

Blumenkrantz also contributed a piece to The Seven Deadly Sins, a song cycle commissioned by Carnegie Hall for the singer. His comic song, "My Book," addressed the sin of sloth.

They call me the Crazy Lemon
I'm crazy, wild, free for a while
I can't help what they think, I was born that way
I'll be a little crazy till my dyin' day
Just a man on the run, they call the Crazy Lemon
It's true that I stole a Budweiser truck
I changed my mind but the truck got stuck
In a muddy ditch, so I hitched it back again
The second car that passed had a cherry on top
But just my luck, it was a first to stop
They said with a grin, "Looky here, it's the Crazy Lemon"
They call me the Crazy Lemon
I'm crazy, wild, free for a while
I can't help what they think, I was born that way
I'll be a little crazy till my dyin' day
Just a man on the run, they call the Crazy Lemon
It's true that I run a little illegal cargo
From the border and the coast, north to Fargo
Busted with a truck load of Juarez aspirins
Seems everything that I tried to sell
Just bought me a room in some Iron Hotel
Things were looking grim for the Crazy Lemon
They call me the Crazy Lemon
I'm crazy, wild, free for a while
I can't help what they think, I was born that way
I'll be a little crazy till my dyin' day
Just a man on the run, they call the Crazy Lemon
Hey, I've jumped a little bit of bail
From a handful of city, county jail
Seeking out a spiritual hideout in the wind
It's easy to hide from a 6 foot cell
No use tryin', hide from yourself
Just play another hymn for the Crazy Lemon
They call me the Crazy Lemon
I'm crazy, wild, free for a while
I can't help what they think, I was born that way
I'll be a little crazy till my dyin' day
Just a man on the run, they call the Crazy Lemon
Hey, I'm a Crazy Lemon
I've been watching him for seven days
His hands pale hee-ho-hee-ho-hee-ho
knuckles moving beneath the skin
foetuslike hee-ho-hee-ho-hee-ho
I've caught seven foxes
and placed them on the river bank
each night I give him one hee-ho-hee-ho-hee-ho
counting down the days till we are one
and clothe his heart in fur hee-ho-hee-ho-hee-ho
I sing of arms and the man his
arms that wake each morning
white-knuckled and that copy claw gestures
7 6 5
7 6 5
7 6 5 4 3 2 1 and here I go...
I take him in I take this body whole
so thin like a spine hee-ho-hee-ho-hee-ho
I thread him on inside of mine
and we are one and we are one hee-ho-hee-ho-heeeee-ho
and his is the fur at last I
see his eyes inside my mouth
even when he sneaks into my bones
forever unborn
now finally I am a mother
