Options in Sheds

When it comes to choosing a shed, there are many different styles, designs and materials available (also see shed suppliers). These include:

• Prefabricated sheds: A shed that comes in kit form, with ready to assemble panels that you just have to put together.  Everything necessary to erect the shed is included - the panels, roof, anchors, fixings (screws, bolts etc) and even the tools in some cases (though you’ll likely need at least basic tools). • Heritage sheds: Available in both ready made and custom designs.  You can have the shed installed for you or you can buy a prefabricated shed which is ready to assemble. • Stone sheds: Generally made from natural stone, though imitation stone can be used for tighter budgets. Stone garden sheds are the most expensive of all of the sheds to build, due to the cost of the stone and the skill needed to erect it.  However, the shed will last for many years with very little maintenance and it will add on to the value of your home. • Timber sheds: Made from quality timbers such as ecowood, treated pine, Baltic pine, and Western Red Cedar. Timber garden sheds generally have either pitched or flat roofs made from Colorbond but other materials such as tiles may be an option.  You can include as many doors or windows as you like in your shed and you may even be able to install a skylight for extra natural light.
  
  
• Steel sheds: A great choice as they are cost effective, extremely low in maintenance and can be designed to suit every style of home, no matter how traditional or modern the home is. Uses for Sheds

Common uses for sheds include garden sheds, bike sheds, boat sheds and agricultural sheds. Garden sheds are often made from wood and can come in kit form and do-it-yourself plans. The larger sheds are normally constructed of metal or plastic and generally require a professional shed builder.

Building a Shed

Sheds are commonly built in the back garden of the home and can be built from a range of materials including steel, brick and timber.  The size of the shed and the materials will depend on what you use your shed for.  Sheds can be used for storage only, such as gardening tools and furniture, or they can be used as an impromptu entertainment area.
