The Specials
The Specials, also known as The Special AKA, are an English 2 Tone and ska revival band formed in 1977 in Coventry. Their music combines a "danceable ska and rocksteady beat with punk's energy and attitude", and had a "more focused and informed political and social stance" than other ska groups.
The band wore mod-style "1960s period rude boy outfits (pork pie hats, tonic and mohair suits, and loafers)." In 1980, the song "Too Much Too Young", the lead track on their The Special AKA Live! EP, reached number one in the UK. In 1981, the unemployment-themed single "Ghost Town" also hit number one in the UK Singles Chart.
After seven consecutive UK Top 10 singles between 1979 and 1981, three members of the group abruptly left to form Fun Boy Three. Continuing on as "The Special AKA" (a name they used frequently on earlier Specials releases), a substantially revised Specials line-up issued new material through 1984, including the top 10 UK hit single "Free Nelson Mandela". Afterwards, founder and songwriter Jerry Dammers dissolved the band and pursued political activism.

The Specials – 30th Anniversary Tour documentary was released back in 2010 to commemorate the string of sold-out, off-the-wall UK dates that the band (featuring original members Terry Hall, Neville Staple, Lynval Golding, Roddy Radiation, Sir Horace Gentleman and John Bradbury, but sans founding songwriter and keyboardist Jerry Dammers) tore through following a surprise appearance on BBC Two's Later... with Jools Holland show. Filmed at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall in front of a manic hometown crowd, the show was the biggest revival story of 2009 and marked the first time that the band had been filmed in concert in over twenty-eight years.
Rock along to a hit-heavy set of classic 2 tone tunes, and watch as the pride of Coventry show that the spirit of '77 is alive and kicking. These old rude boys have still got plenty of tricks up their mohair sleeves.

18 minutes of clips from the 1980 Arena documentary "Rudies Come Back"... Sadly the image and sound quality is very poor as well as the remaining 17 minutes of the film being missing... I've scoured the net and all I could find were these clips on an obscure Russian website, which was only in 320 x 240 pixels and at 12 frames per second so there wasn't much I could do to improve the quality... At the end I've include the only clips the Beeb will show even though they still have the full documentary in their archives. I've no idea why the Beeb won't show this film again or even why they wont release it on DVD... So unless someone out there know where this excellent little piece of Ska history can be found in all it's glory, then I suppose this'll have to do for now... :-( C'mon the Bee...

Sadly the image and sound quality is very poor as well as the remaining 17 minutes of the film being missing...
I've scoured the net and all I could find were these clips on an obscure Russian website, which was only in 320 x 240 pixels and at 12 frames per second so there wasn't much I could do to improve the quality...
At the end I've include the only clips the Beeb will show even though they still have the full documentary in their archives. I've no idea why the Beeb won't show this film again or even why they wont release it on DVD...
So unless someone out there know where this excellent little piece of Ska history can be found in all it's glory, then I suppose this'll have to do for now... :-(
C'mon the Beeb, give us a chance to see this show one last time... please... :-)
