Aujourd'hui, seulement 12% des membres des Nations Unies se décrivent comme étant des monarchies et leur distribution dans le monde est particulièrement irrégulière -- 10 en Europe, 7 au Moyen-Orient, 4 en Asie du Sud-Est, 3 en Afrique, 2 en Asie du Nord-Est et en Asie du Sud, 1 en Océanie et aucune dans l'hémisphère Ouest. Les travaux portant sur les quatre monarchies encore en place en Asie du Sud-Est se concentrent généralement sur un seul cas, sans les situer dans un cadre comparatif plus large. Cette conférence vise à rendre compte des facteurs internes et externes, parmi lesquels la chance et le Royaume-Uni, qui ont pu permettre à ces monarchies de survivre.

Today, only 12% of the members of the United Nations are described as monarchies,
and their distribution is very uneven -10 in Europe, 7 in the Middle East, 4 in Southeast
Asia, 3 in Africa, 2 in North and South Asia, l in Oceania, and none in the Western
Hemisphere. Studies on the four surviving monarchies in Southeast Asia mostly focus

Dr David Starkey's exploration of how the monarchy shaped Britain's music concludes with the 19th and 20th centuries, when the crown rediscovered the power of pageantry and ceremony and when native music experienced a renaissance.
David discovers the royal origins of such classics as Edward Elgar's 'Land of Hope and Glory', Hubert Parry's 'I Was Glad' and William Walton's 'Crown Imperial', as well as finding out how the twentieth century's coronations - culminating in the crowning of Elizabeth II - cemented the repertory of royal classics in the hearts of the British people. He hears music written by Queen Victoria's beloved Albert, Prince Consort, played for him in Buckingham Palace on a lavish golden piano which was bought by Victoria and Albert themselves. There are also specially recorded performances from St Paul's Cathedral Choir and Westminster Abbey and of works by Felix Mendelssohn, Arthur Sullivan, Charles Villiers Stanford, and Ralph Vaughan Williams, as well as Hubert Parry's classic 'Jerusalem'.
David uncovers a rarely seen, diamond-encrusted conductor's baton that was a gift from Queen Victoria to her private organist, Sir Walter Parratt. He also recounts the duets sung by Italian opera composer Gioacchino Rossini with George IV in his decadent pleasure palace, the Brighton Pavilion; and visits the Royal College of Music in London, and St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle, both of which played a crucial role in the revival of British music.

The Book of Daniel originated from a collection of legends circulating in the Jewish community in Babylon and Mesopotamia in the Persian and early Hellenistic periods (5th to 3rd centuries BCE), and was later expanded by the visions of chapters 7-12 in the Maccabean era (mid-2nd century).
The "four kingdoms" theme appears explicitly in Daniel 2 and Daniel 7, and is implicit in the imagery of Daniel 8. Daniel's concept of four successive world empires is drawn from Greek theories of mythological history; most modern interpreters agree that the four are Babylon, the Medes, Persia and the Greeks. The symbolism of four metals in the statue in chapter 2 is drawn from Persian writings, while the four "beasts from the sea" in chapter 7 reflect Hosea 13:7–8, in which God threatens that he will be to Israel like a lion, a leopard, a bear or a wild beast. The consensus among scholars is that the four beasts of chapter 7, like the metals of chapter 2, symbolise Babylon, Media, Persia and the Seleucid Greeks, with Antiochus IV as the "small horn" that uproots three others (Antiochus usurped the rights of several other claimants to become king).

List of French monarchs
The monarchs of France ruled from the establishment of the Kingdom of the Franks in 486 to the fall the Second French Empire in 1870. The first dynasty of kings was the Merovingian dynasty, which ruled until 751, followed by the second dynasty, the Carolingians, until 987 (with some interruptions). The third dynasty, the Capetians, the male-line descendants of Hugh Capet, ruled France continuously from 987 to 1792 and again from 1814 to 1848. The branches of the dynasty which ruled after 1328, however, are generally given the specific branch names of Valois (until 1589) and Bourbon (until 1848).
With the House of Bonaparte and the Bourbon Restoration, additional "Kings of the French" and "Emperors of the French" ruled in 19th century France, between 1814 and 1870.
This article lists all rulers to have held the title "King of the Franks", "King of France", "King of the French" or "Emperor of the French". For other Frankish monarchs, see List of Frankish kings.

He hears music written by Queen Victoria's beloved Albert, Prince Consort, played for him in Buckingham Palace on a lavish golden piano which was bought by Victoria and Albert themselves. There are also specially recorded performances from St Paul's Cathedral Choir and Westminster Abbey and of works by Felix Mendelssohn, Arthur Sullivan, Charles Villiers Stanford, and Ralph Vaughan Williams, as well as Hubert Parry's classic 'Jerusalem'.
David uncovers a rarely seen, diamond-encrusted conductor's baton that was a gift from Queen Victoria to her private organist, Sir Walter Parratt. He also recounts the duets sung by Italian opera composer Gioacchino Rossini with George IV in his decadent pleasure palace, the Brighton Pavilion; and visits the Royal College of Music in London, and St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle, both of which played a crucial role in the revival of British music.

On hand to greet her was Nepal's Queen Aishwarya Shah. Princess Sruti is seen here being introduced to Chelsea, the Clinton's daughter. Mrs. Clinton and her daughter visited this exhibit of crafts made by poor women who are being helped to turn traditional skills into a source of income. The first lady made it a point to visit women from all walks of life. She "did lunch" with prominent Nepali women and visited a heath care centre run by American women in Kathmandu.
Her visit also included an audience with Nepal's communist prime minister, Man Mohan Adhikari, and with King Birenda, who four years ago yielded to a pro-democracy movement and accepted a constitutional monarchy.
Nepal is the only official Hindu state in world. About 90 per cent of the population are Hindu. Buddhists and Muslims comprise less than 10 per cent.
Nepal's 20 million population is expected to double by the year 2025.
On Saturday, Mrs. Clinton and Chelsea take a day off their
official schedule to relax at an isolated Nepali wildlife retreat.
They travel to Bangladesh on Sunday.

It was then a piece for the theater play "Marko kazuje na kome je carstvo" (Marko names the Emperor), and its immense popularity with audiences prompted its adoption as the Serbian national anthem.
The current anthem uses slightly modified original lyrics, asserting that Serbia is no longer a monarchy — four verses are different. In three, "Serbian king" (srpskog kralja) is changed to "Serbian lands" (srpske zemlje) and in one, "God save the Serbian king" (srpskog kralja Bože spasi, literally The Serbian king, O God, save) is changed to "O God, save; O God, defend" (Bože spasi, Bože brani).

ALEXANDER GLEASON.- Died at Darien Center, N. Y.,
March 13, 1909, Alexander Gleason, aged 81
years, 3 months, and 13 days. About three
months before his death Brother Gleason had
a stroke of paralysis, which rendered his left
side helpless. He hoped that the Lord would
restore him, but as weeks went on, he realized
that the time was nearing when he would
rest. He made all necessary arrangements,
and left a testimony to be read at his death,
which expressed courage and faith. He said
that he accepted the Bible as the infallible
Word of God at Toledo, Ohio, from his study
of a pamphlet, "The Four Universal Monarchies."
He was baptized by Elder J. H.
Waggoner at Hillsdale, Mich., in the spring
of 1859. Since that time he had never
doubted the truth of this message. The writer
has been personally acquainted with Brother
Gleason for twenty-five years. He has ever
been at his post, faithful to the principles of
the message. In his last hours he realized
that the battle had been. fought, the victory
won. We laid him to rest like a fallen warrior
to awake at 'his Master's call. The
church sorrows, but with a bright hope. He
leaves three daughters, also his life companion,
to mourn his death. He chose for
Scriptural texts I Cor. 15 : 21, 22 ; Job 19 : 25.

March 13, 1909, Alexander Gleason, aged 81
years, 3 months, and 13 days. About three
months before his death Brother Gleason had
a stroke of paralysis, which rendered his left
side helpless. He hoped that the Lord would
restore him, but as weeks went on, he realized
that the time was nearing when he would
rest. He made all necessary arrangements,
and left a testimony to be read at his death,
which expressed courage and faith. He said
that he accepted the Bible as the infallible
Word of God at Toledo, Ohio, from his study
of a pamphlet, "The Four Universal Monarchies."
He was baptized by Elder J. H.
Waggoner at Hillsdale, Mich., in the spring
of 1859. Since that time he had never
doubted the truth of this message. The writer
has been personally acquainted with Brother
Gleason for twenty-five years. He has ever
been at his post, faithful to the principles of
the message. In his last hours he realized
that the battle had been. fought, the victory
won. We laid him to rest like a fallen warrior
to awake at 'his Master's call. The
church sorrows, but with a bright hope. He
leaves three daughters, also his life companion,
to mourn his death. He chose for
Scriptural texts I Cor. 15 : 21, 22 ; Job 19 : 25.

Rabat has a rich and colourful history and was first settled in the 8th century B.C. nearly two thousand years before the Hassan Tower was built. With its beautiful minaret, the 18th century Mosquée Es- Sounna is the most outstanding religious building in the centre of the city. The most architecturally impressive of the four royal cities is Meknès. In the 17th century Moulay Ismaíl made this city into his own and thus created several new buildings. In addition to the largest gate in the Maghreb, the Bab El-Mansour, the city’s former twenty kilometre long wall symbolises a further important legacy and highlights the wealth and flamboyance of the Alaouit sovereign. Although Meknès is one of the younger Moroccan royal cities it contains more than a thousand years of history and its fertile land was even much prized by the Romans. Fès is the oldest and, at the same time, liveliest of all four royal cities. Beyond its historic walls lies the origin of the Moroccan monarchy as well as numerous outstanding treasuries of the Islamic Middle Ages. Fès El-Jdid, an earlier section of the old town centre, is dominated by an immense palace, the Palais Royal. Beyond its gilded bronze gates is a small, luxurious world. Numerous architectural gems highlight the former incredible wealth of Fès. Marrakesh’s history began in the 11th century when the Berber tribe of the Almoravides first settled on the Haouz Plain. In the course of time the early caravan trade with Black Africa and Marrakesh’s southerly location transformed the city into what was the most African of Morocco’s four royal cities and although the legendary caravans have since been replaced by modern roads and motor vehicles both past and present continue to live side by side. Even today each of the Morocco’s four royal cities displays the former enormity, power and beauty of Maghreb culture in Morocco thus their historical monuments still manage to reflect the splendour of the country’s intriguing and glorious past.

The Dutch healthcare system has undergone radical changes in the last few years. It is now mandatory for everyone to purchase at least a base level of insurance. However, one is free to choose their own health insurer and change company once per year. Health insurance covers basic medical costs such as visits to the general practitioner, costs for hospitalisation, medications and most medical treatments. In adults, dental care is excluded. Expenditure on health care equals about 9.5% of GDP.

On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day the FCCT is hosting four distinguished journalists working for the Thai media to outline how they deal with the pressure of working under a military government.
Following their coup on 22 May 2014, Thailand's military authorities have imposed a number of measures restricting freedom of expression, with sometimes harsh penalties for those judged to have violated them. They have also applied existing laws like Lese Majeste, Computer Crimes, and Sedition more rigorously than before. As a result Thailand has fallen sharply in the various international tables measuring press freedom. However, Thai journalists have continued to report critically, and to challenge the military government. They have to deal with various forms of pressure from the military junta, but are still much freer to publish than in some other SE Asian countries. The FCCT is pleased to be hosting four experienced Thai journalists to hear from them how they still manage to get their stories out, and about the occasions when they cannot.
Nopporn Wong-Anan has been a journalist since 1991, having reported on Thailand, Singapore and Southeast Asia for the Wall Street Journal, the Far Eastern Economic Review and Reuters. After two years of building the brand of Forbes Thailand, he rejoined the Bangkok Post last June as Deputy Editor.
Kulachada Chaipipat is a campaign manager at the Southeast Asia Press Alliance (SEAPA). Prior to that, she spent 11 years working as a journalist at The Nation. She covered politics, security and the region extensively from the post-Cambodian conflicts to the Mekong sub regional development and ASEAN.
Chiranuch Premchaiporn is director of the online news outlet Prachatai. In 2015, she was sentenced by the Supreme Court to an eight-month suspended sentence over allowing comments deemed critical of the monarchy to remain on the now-defunct Prachatai discussion board in 2008.
Anuthee Dejthevaporn has joined Voice TV for almost four years as a field reporter for the political beat. Prior to being a journalist, he was secretary of the Student Federation of Thailand in 2010 while he was studying political science at Thammasat University.

Aujourd'hui, seulement 12% des membres des Nations Unies se décrivent comme étant des monarchies et leur distribution dans le monde est particulièrement irrégulière -- 10 en Europe, 7 au Moyen-Orient, 4 en Asie du Sud-Est, 3 en Afrique, 2 en Asie du Nord-Est et en Asie du Sud, 1 en Océanie et aucune dans l'hémisphère Ouest. Les travaux portant sur les quatre monarchies encore en place en Asie du Sud-Est se concentrent généralement sur un seul cas, sans les situer dans un cadre comparatif plus large. Cette conférence vise à rendre compte des facteurs internes et externes, parmi lesquels la chance et le Royaume-Uni, qui ont pu permettre à ces monarchies de survivre.
