Get the mp3 version here: http://www.mindamend.com/shop/study-and-learning/memorization-study-aid/
Mp3 versions are available in 7 different background sound options: Ambient Rhythm (the one from this video), Ambient, Classical Chill, Light Relax, Orchestral, Whimsical Ambience and a 'Just Tones' version. Each version uses the same isochronic tones frequencies, but combined with a different background track for more variety and to suit your mood and personal preferences.
Try out the Classical Chill video version of this isochronic tones session here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsQ3StDsWZY
What is this?
This 3 hour isochronic tones track is for using over a longer study period, to help you memorize what you are studying/revising. Once you have mastered and understood the material you are learning, you can use this to help improve your ability to memorize and recall that information, by revising and absorbing it while in a heightened Alpha state.
If you are problem solving, or working on new complex mental tasks, you may benefit from using a higher Beta frequency range to boost your concentration levels. Try 'Peak Focus For Complex Tasks': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZCwZY5hOXQ, or for a longer study session, 'Cognition Enhancer Extended Version':https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnaaxaAOlPk
How does the track work?
The track stimulates your brainwaves to increase activity of the 10.2 Hz frequency in Alpha. Beta is the frequency range you would normally be experiencing while awake and alert during the daytime, and Alpha is a more relaxed state just below that.
When you are in an Alpha mental state you become and feel more relaxed. It is theorized that while in this relaxed state, you gain a more direct route to your subconscious mind, where your brain stores and files information for recall later on.
This session is based on a memory recognition study in 2006 by Jonathan Williams, Deepa Ramaswamy and Abderrahim Oulhaj. The study participants were stimulated with a range of different Alpha frequencies. The results peaked at the 10.2 Hz frequency, where participants outperformed the control group in memory recognition by 15%.
If you are new to the concept of 'isochronic tones' and 'brainwave entrainment' and how it works, check out this article: http://www.mindamend.com/brain-hub/brainwave-entrainment-methods/how-brainwave-entrainment-works/.
How is this session constructed?
This isochronic tones session begins beating at 10.2Hz in Apha, where it holds for 6 minutes. It then ramps up sharply to 12Hz at the bottom of Beta, where it holds for 2 minutes, before ramping back down to 10.2Hz again and repeating the cycle.
The main focus of the track is on boosting your Alpha brainwave activity, but I've also included periodic short bursts of low Beta stimulation, to help keep your concentration levels up and prevent you from getting too relaxed and drifting off.
How to use it?
Listen to this track with your eyes open while reading and studying.
Headphones are NOT required
Although headphones are not required you may find them useful to block out external distraction, especially if you are studying in a noisy environment.
When to listen?
This track is suitable for listening to at any time during the daytime or evening while you are awake, but it is not designed to be listened while you are asleep.
How loud should the volume be?
The main thing to consider is that it should be loud enough to hear the repetitive isochronic tones, so you don't want it so quiet you can hardly hear them. But you also don't want it so loud that its uncomfortable for you and hurts your ears, or gives you a headache. I'd recommend starting with the volume around half way and adjust it to a level that you feel comfortable with from there.
IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATIONS
Drink some water - Make sure you are well hydrated before listening to brainwave entrainment. This is especially important with a high intensity beta session like this one, because your brain will be burning more energy.
It is not recommended to listen to this while driving or operating machinery, or while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or any mind altering substance, because it hasn't been tested in that environment.
Those who should also NOT listen to this video/audio include: Those who are prone to or have had seizures, epilepsy, pregnant or wear a pacemaker should NOT listen to this video/audio. This is a precautionary recommendation because of the lack of research in these areas with this technology.

Obviously this is not meant to offend anybody or make fun of countries; it's just a quick and dirty way to remember countries and borders.
I MIXED UP! I confused Northern Ireland with Ireland! Northern Ireland is part of the UK, Ireland is its own country! I also missed Kosovo!

Ever experienced difficulties in learning Chinese characters? Would you like to memorize them faster and become more efficient at your language studies? Then definitely watch this video about improving your memory by using the most effective tip: Memory Palaces!
In this video, we're going to take a down-to-earth example: family members in Mandarin Chinese. To be more precise: 爷爷 (father's father). By using the ultimate memory technique called Memory Palaces (or Method of Loci), we are able to visualize the character in an extremely vivid manner and "place" it into a real location, hence ensuring that we don't forget the character. I've used this technique for hundreds of characters, and with the right associations, it works like a Swiss clock.
Note: I've started learning Mandarin recently myself, so I am by no means a Chinese speaker. Yet I am willing to develop with you guys, and I hope that this method will prove very useful (it did with every other language I've learnt).
If you wish to improve your brain abilities and learn stuff fast and efficiently, be sure to join our Facebook group where you can pose any question, be it about learning a new language, memorizing names, faces, historical dates and so on:

I am using short simple animation to memorize the book of James. Since it takes quite a bit of time to put these together [a lot longer then I ever imagined] I thought I would share with others who may be like minded.

A key signature is a collection of seven pitches that a diatonic piece of music is composed of. One could think of it as the pitch ingredients within the recipe of a song. There are 21 total chromatic pitches in music. This is a result of a seven letter musical alphabet in which each letter can be either sharp, flat or natural. However, diatonic music selects seven of these 21 pitches as the pitch framework for a particular song. Diatonic music is limited to one type of each letter in the musical alphabet.
The order in which sharps or flats are added to the list of the 7 pitches of a key signature is determined by a mathematical component of music called the circle of fifths. The key of C major or A minor contains no sharps or flats, so this key signature acts as the starting point of the circle of fifths. If we travel up a fifth from there (counting C or A as one) we reach the key that contain one sharp (G major or E minor). Continuing up in fifths will reveal the tonic for two sharps, three and so on. Traveling down a fifth from C or A will reveal the tonic of the key with one flat (F major or D minor). Continuing down in fifths reveals the other flatted tonics. This circle of fifths diagram graphically depicts the order of the cycle. Major keys are listed in the outside circle and minor keys are listed in the inside one.
A scale is a consecutive listing of the 7 pitches within a diatonic key. In our previous lesson on key signatures, we discussed that a diatonic key is a selection of 7 of the 21 possible pitches in music. The selection is limited to 7 because each letter in a diatonic key is limited to one type (either flat, natural or sharp). The listing of pitches within a scale always starts and ends with the tonic pitch. The purpose for practicing scales on our instrument is to familiarize ourselves with the 7 diatonic pitches of a given key.
Music students often learn their scales by reading them off of a piece of sheet music. To memorize the scales, they practice repeatedly until the movements required to perform the scale are committed to muscle memory. This method of memorization can be unreliable since it does not employ a cognitive understanding of the pitches in the sequence. This lack of cognition also robs the student of the true benefit of practicing scales, which is familiarizing ourselves with each key signature. Once we can mentally distinguish the pitches of a particular key signature, we can free ourselves to play a musical passage without accidentally hitting pitches outside of the key.
If we visualize the 21 pitches of music, we can practice picking out and naming the 7 consecutive pitches of a scale. We start by naming the 7 letters of that scale, beginning with the tonic letter (name of the key or scale) and looping around the 7 letters. This is something that can easily be memorized since it is the first 7 letters of the English alphabet. Then we simply apply the key signature (derived from the circle of fifths) of that scale while naming the letters. We practice naming and then playing each pitch of the scale while keeping a steady beat. Gradually, we increase the tempo and decrease the delay between naming and playing the pitches (eventually this requires naming the pitches in our head instead of out loud). Finally we reach a point where we can name and play the pitches almost simultaneously, and at a decent tempo. This method provides the confidence of cognitive pitch recognition as opposed to mere muscle memory reliance.

YellowBrickCinema is the leader in Sleep Music, Relaxing Music, Study Music, Meditation Music (including Tibetan Music and Shamanic Music), Healing Music, Reiki Music, Zen Music, Spa and Massage Music, and Yoga Music.
We compose instrumental music that is specially designed to encourage and enhance relaxation, meditation, brain function and concentration, spa and massage therapy, and healing music therapy. In addition, we use binaural beats (Delta Waves, Alpha Waves and Theta Waves) to naturally encourage a state of relaxation which is perfect for concentration, meditation or deep sleep. Our long music playlists are perfect for your daily meditation and relaxation. Our music videos use light, beautiful, calming sounds (some with nature sounds) that leave you feeling refreshed.
Our music is popular for the following:
► Sleep Music:
YellowBrickCinema’s deep sleep music videos have been specifically composed to relax mind and body, and are suitable for babies, children, teens, and adults who need slow, beautiful, soft, soothing music to assist them to fall asleep, or to combat insomnia. See them as a form of sleep meditation or sleep hypnosis gently easing you into that wonderful relaxing world of healing sleep.
Our soothing music incorporates the relaxing sounds of nature to lull you into a deep, peaceful sleep. Use our music videos for sleep meditation and allow the dreamy landscape images to move body and mind into a deep state of relaxation. Fill your mind with our sleep music’s beautiful, soothing instrumental sounds while your brain moves through Theta Waves and Delta Waves, giving you the healing sleep you so richly deserve.
Whether you are a mother wanting to gently help your baby or toddler to fall asleep, a teenager wanting to slow and calm your racing mind, an executive lying awake stressed about work or a senior citizen battling with sleep insomnia, choosing one of YellowBrickCinema’s sleep music videos with their relaxing sounds will give you the deep sleep you need.
►Study & Focus Music:
YellowBrickCinema’s Study Music & Concentration Music is ideal background music to help you to study, concentrate, focus and work more effectively. We incorporate powerful Alpha Waves that naturally allow your mind to reach a state of focus, perfect for studying for that big test or exam.
►Relaxation, Meditation and Healing Music:
Our relaxing music is perfect for Deepak Chopra meditations, Buddhist meditation, Zen meditation, Mindfulness meditation and Eckhart Tolle meditation. This music is influenced by Japanese meditation music, Indian meditation music, Tibetan music and Shamanic music. Some benefits include cleansing the Chakra, opening the Third Eye and increasing Transcendental meditation skills. The work of Byron Katie, Sedona Method, Silva Method and the Secret highlights the fact that healing can occur through using the mind and being in the “now”. Healing Meditation can be practised using this music for best results.
► Spa and Massage Music:
Our light instrumental music is useful after a long day of work to unwind and relax. The spa music, nature sounds, rain sounds, light piano, and easy listening instruments used in these tracks encourage ultimate relaxation. YellowBrickCinema’s music is great for massage therapy, and our music will help you relax your mind and body.
►Reiki & Zen Music:
Our Reiki Music and Zen Music is ideal for Reiki healing sessions, and encouraging a state of Zen. Let the calming, subtle sounds take you to a higher state of consciousness, and allow you to give and receive powerful Reiki vibrations.
►Yoga Music:
Our calming music is useful for yoga for beginners, yoga exercises, yoga chants influenced by Indian songs, African music, and is soothing music which can enable you to go into a yoga trance. If you are familiar with the work of Yogscast, Hare Krishna, Michael Franti, and Keshna be sure to use this.
►Nature Music:
We use nature sounds such as gentle rain, rainstorm and thunder sounds, flowing river and waterfall sounds, relaxing waves on a beach, and bird songs in the forest, either as standalone relaxing sounds, or to enhance our relaxing music tracks.

Learning How to Learn
To quote Maimonides, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” As a band teacher, I have witnessed learning without understanding (in my own program and the programs of other teachers). Students learn a song (or group of songs) and then perform them in a concert. However, the students are simply physically performing a rote activity that was instilled through repetition. The students are still totally reliant on the teacher when attempting to “learn” a new song. They have learned how to play a song, but not how to learn songs. Understanding is the key to learning how to learn. This leads to an eventual state of independence from the teacher.
Acquiring vs. Applying Knowledge
Initially, the role of a teacher is both to acquire valid sources of knowledge for the student and aid the student in applying the knowledge. We never become independent from the need to acquire knowledge. When we learn how to learn, we become independent from the need for an intermediary who explains how to apply knowledge. With an increased understanding of application comes an increased discernment of good and bad sources of knowledge. This leads to an increased ability to seek out good sources of new knowledge (better ability to acquire) which leads to more application (the process is a cycle).
Specific Teaching Method Being Challenged
I have had a commenter question my approach to teaching the possible pitch names in music. He insists that all names which are redundant due to enharmonic equivalence should be omitted, and that I should teach only 12 pitch names. However, when we insert these 12 tones into the realm of music theory a problem occurs. Although there are only 12 tones (pitch sounds) in music, there are not only 12 possible pitch names. The language of music contains multiple names for each tone depending on the context of the situation. If a person only knows 12 pitch names, what will happen when the music they are reading asks them to play a pitch name that they haven’t learned?
I have selected to teach pitch names a certain way for a specific reason. My goal is to help students understand concepts, not to have them just memorize information. I do not want students to memorize the 21 possible pitches in my illustration. I don’t want them to even memorize 12 pitches. I want them to understand where all of the possible pitches come from (why they exist).
If anything is being memorized, it is the seven letters of the musical alphabet (which are the 1st seven letters of the English alphabet). Each letter can be either sharped or flatted. This concept leads to an understanding of the existence of every possible pitch name.
The best example of the concept I am explaining today is in my lesson called Memorizing Scales (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISBaY-cWN3g). I teach memorization in this lesson, but it is based on an understanding of the formation of key signatures (I still use the 21 possible pitch graphic). The 1st time I used this graphic was in my lesson called The Musical Alphabet (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhtwxd7UsVo), where I teach about enharmonic equivalence. Even in my Chord Progressions (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXvgl3eV5oc) lesson, I implement the practice of teaching for understanding instead of rote memorization. I believe this practice is why so many people have found this lesson helpful.

http://www.ted.com There are people who can quickly memorize lists of thousands of numbers, the order of all the cards in a deck (or ten!), and much more. Science writer Joshua Foer describes the technique -- called the memory palace -- and shows off its most remarkable feature: anyone can learn how to use it, including him.

http://www.derrylgabel.com here's part 2 of my GPS instructional. If you are serious about becoming a better musician and guitarist, memorizing the notes on the fretboard is a great place to start. This is an essential skill that will actually make learning the guitar easier. It doesn't matter what style you play. Knowing the notes instantly will make you exponentially better on your instrument. Let me show you how!
In part two of GPS we will be mapping out the notes on the E and A strings. I’ll show you a systematic method for practicing your note recognition and teach you some mnemonic devices. You’ll also lean about the cycle of diatonic fourths, perfect fourths, and the order of flats. I’ll show you how to use these sequences of notes as a tool to sharpen your skills.
To order the digital download, DVD, or Bluray please visit my website.
