A large sunspot is turning toward Earth.
NOAA designated the planet-sized blemish "AR2529" after it emerged into view on April 7th.
Sunspots are, essentially, islands of magnetism floating in a sea of solar plasma. The island of AR2529 is as wide as Earth itself.
With a primary dark core that measure more than 20,000 km in diameter, AR2529 is an easy target for backyard solar telescopes.
Magnetic fields arching above a sunspot can become tangled. They criss-cross and reconnect, exploding with the force of millions of atomic bombs.
However, such a "solar flare" is unlikely in this case because the magnetic field of sunspot AR2529 is not tangled.
As the sunspot remains stable poses little threat for strong explosions. http://spaceweather.com/
Sleeping Giant
Region 2529 is now in view and is indeed a large sunspot. In fact, the leader spot is larger than our planet Earth. The region however is not magnetically complex (Beta Magnetic) and is unlikely to produce a major solar flare, at least in the short term.

The sun has sprung a leak: A hole in the outermost layer of the sun and its magnetic field, the size of several Earths, is letting loose an ultrafast solar wind, should reach Earth on April 13-14. sparking several nights of auroras down on Earth.
The image of the giant hole was captured by the American space agency's Solar Dynamics Observatory on April 9 using an ultraviolet wavelength that cannot be seen by the naked eye.

Sunspot
Sunspots are temporary phenomena on the photosphere of the Sun that appear visibly as dark spots compared to surrounding regions. They correspond to concentrations of magnetic field flux that inhibit convection and result in reduced surface temperature compared to the surrounding photosphere. Sunspots usually appear in pairs, with pair members of opposite magnetic polarity. The number of sunspots varies according to the approximately 11-year solar cycle.
Individual sunspots may endure anywhere from a few days to a few months, but eventually decay. Sunspots expand and contract as they move across the surface of the Sun with a size ranging from 16 kilometers (10 mi) to 160,000 kilometers (100,000 mi) in diameter. The larger variety are visible from Earth without the aid of a telescope. They may travel at relative speeds, or proper motions of a few hundred meters per second when they first emerge.
Indicating intense magnetic activity, sunspots accompany secondary phenomena such as coronal loops (prominences) and reconnection events. Most solar flares and coronal mass ejections originate in magnetically active regions around visible sunspot groupings. Similar phenomena indirectly observed on stars other than the sun are commonly called starspots and both light and dark spots have been measured.

Bob Seger
Robert Clark "Bob" Seger (born May 6, 1945) is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist and pianist. As a locally successful Detroit-area artist, he performed and recorded as Bob Seger and the Last Heard and Bob Seger System throughout the 1960s. By the early 1970s, he had dropped the "System" from his recordings and continued to strive for broader success with various other bands. In 1973, he put together the Silver Bullet Band, a group of Detroit-area musicians, with whom he became most successful on the national level with the album Live Bullet, recorded live with the Silver Bullet Band in 1975 at Cobo Hall in Detroit, Michigan. In 1976, he achieved a national breakout with the studio album Night Moves. On his studio albums, he also worked extensively with the Alabama-based Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, which appeared on several of Seger's best-selling singles and albums.
A roots rocker with a classic raspy, shouting voice, Seger wrote and recorded songs that dealt with love, women and blue-collar themes and was an exemplar of heartland rock. Seger has recorded many hits, including "Night Moves", "Turn the Page", "Still the Same", "We've Got Tonight", "Against the Wind", "You'll Accomp'ny Me", "Shame on the Moon", "Like a Rock", and "Shakedown", which was written for Beverly Hills Cop II. Seger also co-wrote the Eagles' number-one hit "Heartache Tonight", and his iconic recording of "Old Time Rock and Roll" was named one of the Songs of the Century in 2001.

A large sunspot is turning toward Earth. NOAA designated the planet-sized blemish "AR2529" after it emerged into view on April 7th. Sunspots are, essentially, islands of magnetism floating in a sea of solar plasma. The island of AR2529 is as wide as Earth itself. With a primary dark core that measure more than 20,000 km in diameter, AR2529 is an easy target for backyard solar telescopes. Magnetic fields arching above a sunspot can become tangled. They criss-cross and reconnect, exploding with the force of millions of atomic bombs. Sleeping Giant
Region 2529 is now in view and is indeed a large sunspot. In fact, the leader spot is larger than our planet Earth. The region however is not magnetically complex (Beta Magnetic) and is unlikely to produce a major solar flare, at least in the short term.

The sun has sprung a leak: A hole in the outermost layer of the sun and its magnetic field, the size of several Earths, is letting loose an ultrafast solar wind, should reach Earth on April 13-14. sparking several nights of auroras down on Earth.
The image of the giant hole was captured by the American space agency's Solar Dynamics Observatory on April 9 using an ultraviolet wavelength that cannot be seen by the naked eye.

Magnetic fields arching above a sunspot can become tangled. They criss-cross and reconnect, exploding with the force of millions of atomic bombs.
However, such a "solar flare" is unlikely in this case because the magnetic field of sunspot AR2529 is not tangled.

Sleeping Giant
Region 2529 is now in view and is indeed a large sunspot. In fact, the leader spot is larger than our planet Earth. The region however is not magnetically complex (Beta Magnetic) and is unlikely to produce a major solar flare, at least in the short term.

The sun has sprung a leak: A hole in the outermost layer of the sun and its magnetic field, the size of several Earths, is letting loose an ultrafast solar wind, should reach Earth on April 13-14. sparking several nights of auroras down on Earth.
The image of the giant hole was captured by the American space agency's Solar Dynamics Observatory on April 9 using an ultraviolet wavelength that cannot be seen by the naked eye.
