Beautiful People is a multi-award winning satirical comedy written and directed by Jasmin Dizdar . The film is set in London during the time of the Bosnian war. Beautiful People is the only British film to win the award at Cannes Film Festival 1999 whilst Jasmin Dizdar is the first Bosnian-born filmmaker to win a major award at the Cannes Film Festival after the Bosnian war.
In London, during October 1993, England are playing the Netherlands in the World Cup qualifiers. The Bosnian War is at its height, and refugees from former Yugoslavia are arriving. Football rivals and political adversaries from the Balkans all precipitate conflict and amusing situations. Meanwhile, the lives of four English families are affected in different ways by an encounter with the refugees; one of the families improbably becomes involved with a Balkan refugee through the England vs. Holland match.
The film won the Un Certain Regard Prize at the 1999 Cannes Film Festival.

It moved me more than all the bumper stickers saying 2000 Vote Bush and Cheney. It meant 10 times more than the stickers that read Kepp Honking, I'm Reloading. And I hope the people who posted it practice what its saying, because its by truth and kindness my life is worth living.
And the most beautiful people I have met, were also the kindest
And the most beautiful people I have met, were treated the worst
And the most beautiful people I have met, always leave my life
But you can't expect to keep them forever, cuz they'll leave you sooner or later. Everyone does, in the end. But you can be one forever, for someone else, by loving each and everyone around. People, tree, dog, and cat, brown yellow, red white and black. Because its by truth and kindness my life is worth living.
And the most beautiful people I have met, will live forever
And the most beautiful people I have met, make more of a difference
