The aardvark is a medium-sized, burrowing, nocturnal mammal native to
Africa. Aardvarks live in sub-Saharan Africa, where there is suitable habitat for them to live, such as savannas, grasslands, woodlands and bushland, and available food leke ants and termites. The aardvark is nocturnal and is a solitary creature that feeds almost exclusively on ants and termites. Aside from digging out ants and termites, the aardvark also excavates burrows in which to live; temporary sites are scattered around the home range as refuges, and a main burrow is used for breeding.
Main burrows can be deep and extensive, have several entrances and can be as long as 13 metres or 43 feet.
Thanda Nani Game Lodge is a 3
Star property. The reserve has a breeding program where rare and endangered species like
Sable and
Roan antelope are bred before being released on the main reserve, disease free buffalo also roam the reserve with over
150 white and
Black Rhinos - making it the largest private collection of Rhinos in the world! Herds of Eland,
Red Hartebeest, Tssesebe,
Zebra, Giraffe, Kudu,
Impala and
Blue Wildebeest roam freely. The more elusive Bushbuck, Nyala and Duiker can also be seen while
Baboon,
Monkey,
Ostrich and
Warthog are in abundance.
