Relation or relations may refer to:
The European Union (EU) is a politico-economic union of 28 member states that are located primarily in Europe. It covers an area of 4,324,782 km2, with an estimated population of over 508 million. The EU operates through a system of supranational institutions and intergovernmental-negotiated decisions by the member states. The institutions are: the European Parliament, the European Council, the Council of the European Union, the European Commission, the Court of Justice of the European Union, the European Central Bank, and the Court of Auditors. The European Parliament is elected every five years by EU citizens.
The EU has developed an internal single market through a standardised system of laws that apply in all member states. Within the Schengen Area, passport controls have been abolished. EU policies aim to ensure the free movement of people, goods, services, and capital, enact legislation in justice and home affairs, and maintain common policies on trade, agriculture, fisheries, and regional development. The monetary union was established in 1999 and came into full force in 2002. It is currently composed of 19 member states that use the euro as their legal tender.
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, commonly known as the United Kingdom (UK) or Britain, is a sovereign state in the European Union. Lying off the north-western coast of the European mainland, it includes the island of "Great Britain" (a term also applied loosely to refer to the whole country), the north-eastern part of the island of Ireland and many smaller islands.Northern Ireland is the only part of the UK that shares a land border with another state—the Republic of Ireland. Apart from this land border, the UK is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, with the North Sea to its east, the English Channel to its south and the Celtic Sea to its south-southwest. The Irish Sea lies between Great Britain and Ireland. With an area of 93,800 square miles (243,000 km2), the UK is the 80th-largest sovereign state in the world and the 11th-largest in Europe. It is also is the 21st-most populous country, with an estimated 64.5 million inhabitants.
The United Kingdom is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system of governance. Its capital city is London, an important global city and financial centre with an urban population of 10,310,000, the fourth-largest in Europe and second-largest in the European Union. The current monarch—since 6 February 1952—is Queen Elizabeth II. The UK consists of four countries: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The latter three have devolved administrations, each with varying powers, based in their capitals, Edinburgh, Cardiff, and Belfast, respectively. The nearby Isle of Man, Bailiwick of Guernsey and Bailiwick of Jersey are not part of the United Kingdom, being Crown dependencies with the British Government responsible for defence and international representation.
The European Parliament (EP) is the directly elected parliamentary institution of the European Union (EU). Together with the Council of the European Union (the Council) and the European Commission, it exercises the legislative function of the EU. The Parliament is composed of 751 (previously 766) members, who represent the second largest democratic electorate in the world (after the Parliament of India) and the largest trans-national democratic electorate in the world (375 million eligible voters in 2009).
It has been directly elected every five years by universal suffrage since 1979. However, turnout at European Parliament elections has fallen consecutively at each election since that date, and has been under 50% since 1999. Turnout in 2014 stood at 42.54% of all European voters.
Although the European Parliament has legislative power that the Council and Commission do not possess, it does not formally possess legislative initiative, as most national parliaments of European Union member states do. The Parliament is the "first institution" of the EU (mentioned first in the treaties, having ceremonial precedence over all authority at European level), and shares equal legislative and budgetary powers with the Council (except in a few areas where the special legislative procedures apply). It likewise has equal control over the EU budget. Finally, the European Commission, the executive body of the EU, is accountable to Parliament. In particular, Parliament elects the President of the Commission, and approves (or rejects) the appointment of the Commission as a whole. It can subsequently force the Commission as a body to resign by adopting a motion of censure.

Much has already been said about British withdrawal from the European Union. Referendum results have led some in shock as many political analysts predicted another outcome of the vote. Now, as the United Kingdom leaves the EU, British economy is out on a limb, so it's obvious that the state could use all the trade deals they can get unless new agreements and deals are made throughout Europe. Dr Marcus Papadopoulos, political analyst and chief-editor of the "Politics First" magazine is giving answers on the most intriguing questions Anchorwoman - Catherine Nollan
South Africa will maintain its trade relations with both the European union and the United Kingdom, regardless of the outcome of Britain's referendum on EU membership. It's a vote that will have far-reaching economic consequences for both the European Union and the UK's trading partners. Some economists warn that South Africa stands to lose hundreds of billions of rand should Britain decide to leave the European Union. For more news, visit: http://www.sabc.co.za/news
Whatever the outcome of the 2014 European Parliament elections, the UK's relationship with the EU looks set to continue to be strained as the prospect of a referendum on membership looms large. http://www.euronews.com/ The UK in the EU has proved to be a toxic issue for past Conservative leaders. It has loomed large in the downfall of the last two Tory prime ministers - the Iron Lady Margaret Thatcher in 1990 and John Major in '97. Those relations with the continental cousins are still being divisive. Claire Buchanan, a sales vice-president for a London company, said: "I think what we have seen in the past of couple of years kind of proves the point that it was a good thing we aren't in the euro zone right now. We would be in real trouble if we hadn't had the opt out clauses that we have." Lawyer Gordon Harris said: "It is the most misconceived and frankly facile abdication of responsibility by a prime minister you could possibly imagine. The country has to be in Europe, it w...

One of the UK’s leading EU law experts criticizes the referendum debate’s 'dishonesty on an industrial scale', as he considers the claims and counter claims from each side. University of Liverpool Law School’s Professor Michael Dougan has spent his career studying EU law as it relates to the UK; contributing to Parliamentary Select Committees, advising government and now helping media fact check the barrage of assertions emanating from the Remain and Leave camps, in the run up to June 23. Here, Professor Dougan analyses the substance of each viewpoint and delivers an informed assessment of the UK’s potential future position, both as a member of the EU and in the wake of a vote to leave. Disclosure statement: Professor Dougan is an employee of the University of Liverpool. He does not ...

Tim Farron said he respected the decision taken on 23 June but British voters should get a vote on the deal over future EU-UK relations. The Liberal Democrat leader told Daily Politics presenter Jo Coburn that he blamed David Cameron, George Osborne and Theresa May for there being "no clarity" over the next stage. And he said it would be "utterly despicable for this Conservative government to impose on the British people a deal that nobody voted for".
European Council President Donald Tusk's proposals to reform the EU and prevent a Brexit are a good basis for negotiations, says EPP Group Chairman Manfred Weber. He says the proposed safeguard mechanism in case of large internal migrations would address UK concerns with an EU-wide, EU-controlled system.
Professor Michael Dougan, the leading EU lawyer whose criticism of the referendum campaign’s “industrial dishonesty” went viral, has assessed the UK’s position following the vote to leave the EU. The University of Liverpool Law School Professor has spent his career studying EU law as it relates to the UK; contributing to Parliamentary Select Committees, advising government and helping media fact check the barrage of assertions emanating from the Remain and Leave camps in the run up to the referendum on June 23. Now, following the UK’s vote to leave, Professor Dougan has repeated his criticism, asserting that the Leave campaign was “one of the most dishonest campaigns this country has ever seen”, potentially resulting in “untold damage to the quality of our national democracy”. Nigel Farage: EU Parliament 'declaring war' on Brexit talks Nigel Farage has accused the European Parliament of "a declaration of war" on the UK's Brexit talks after naming Guy Verhofstadt as its chief negotiator. The outgoing UKIP leader told MEPs the ex-Belgian prime minister was the "high priest" of federalism and should be replaced by someone "who likes the UK". Mr Verhofstadt is one of three officials chosen by EU institutions. He told MEPs earlier he didn't want to "punish" the UK but to build "sound relations" after the UK's departure. Although the Belgian politician, who leads the Alliance of Liberal and Democrats grouping in the European Parliament, will not actually lead the EU's talks with the UK, the European Parliament has said he will have a "central role" in discussions exp...
