BOARDWALK FILM FEST PREVIEW: This first-ever Boardwalk Film Fest will take place September 16 - 19, but Saturday they will be doing a special preview event. The "Pre-Season Mini-Fest" will take place at Asbury Park High School's auditorium, showing three films. The main feature of the evening will be "Riot" a documentary by festival organizer Kevin McLaughlin. The doc, narrated by Andre Braugher ("Brooklyn Nine-Nine," "Homicide"), looks about the 1967 Newark riots. The mini-fest will spotlight "Taking the Plunge" an animated film from students at the New York School of Visual Art, and a short film from Iranian director Keivan Mohseni. There will be an after-party with live music at Johnny Mac's House of Spirits on Main Street in Asbury Park. $12-$23. Saturday, 4 p.m. (screening), 7 p.m. (party). 1003 Sunset Avenue, Asbury Park. 

ROCKS, RIBS AND RIDGES: The 7th Annual "Rocks, Ribs, and Ridges" Fest is a two-day mingling of barbecue, and classic rock on the lush law of the Sussex County Fairgrounds. Saturday will feature performances by Jefferson Starship, Pure Prairie League, and Kansas while Sunday will be headlined by Blues Traveler, and the Artimus Pyle Band (fronted by the former Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer). If you're not here to rock, and are looking to dive face first into some barbecue, you can grab grub from Big Poppa Smoke'm, Texas Smoke Barbecue, Pigtails Barbecue, and Butch's Smack Your Lips BBQ. WHITESBOG BLUEBERRY FESTIVAL: The 33rd annual Whitesbog Blueberry Festival will not only be celebrating the heritage of the historic village, but also the centennial of the cultivation of the first domestic blueberry. Yes, 100 years ago Whitesbog's own Elizabeth C. White, along with the USDA's, Dr. Fredrick V. Coville, and a number of local woodsmen teamed to make blueberry production in this region possible. To celebrate, there will be a two-day "old fashioned" blueberry festival featuring: fun for the kids, lectures, demonstrations, live music (from Celtic to Bluegrass), and of course blueberries. There will also be a blueberry pie-eating contest, and a "hunt for the Jersey devil." CIRQUE DU SOLEIL: OVO IN ATLANTIC CITY: The magic of Cirque du Soleil comes to the boards of Atlantic City this week with their production "Ovo." The show will run Thursday to Sunday at Boardwalk Hall. The "Ovo" production is based around the Portuguese word for "egg." According to the Cirque's site, the production is "a headlong rush into a colorful ecosystem teeming with life, where insects work, eat, crawl, flutter, play, fight, and look for love in a non-stop riot of energy, and entertainment." $38-$152.
