Prescription is the result of peacefully exercise of de facto sovereignty for a very long period over a territory. However there is no fixed time for prescription in International law.
Accretion-
If Geography is changed due to natural cause. It may happen because of some change in land due to river course change or because of volcanic eruption etc.
Cession-
Land acquired by war or by voluntary act.
Plebiscite-
By voting by the people living at that territory.

Westphalian sovereignty
Westphalian sovereignty is the principle of international law that each nation state has sovereignty over its territory and domestic affairs, to the exclusion of all external powers, on the principle of non-interference in another country's domestic affairs, and that each state (no matter how large or small) is equal in international law. The doctrine is named after the Peace of Westphalia, signed in 1648, which ended the Thirty Years' War, in which the major continental European states – the Holy Roman Empire, Spain, France, Sweden and the Dutch Republic – agreed to respect one another's territorial integrity. As European influence spread across the globe, the Westphalian principles, especially the concept of sovereign states, became central to international law and to the prevailing world order.

What has transpired is untenable and inexcusable! It has occurred with the full compliance of the powers that be. In that regard I give mention to both the sitting UDP administration, as well as successive governments including the PUP, since 2008.
This is my position due to the fact that, since the bi-partisan support for the signing of the once, much vaunted 'Compromis' during that year, our nation's territorial integrity has consistently eroded.
Now we find ourselves, where Belizeans are unable to traverse the Sarstoon River, let alone reach our very own Sarstoon Island. I call shame on our elected officials of either hue, who have complied with the demands of the Guatemalan Government. What we are witnessing is the manifestation of the piss-poor PUDP "4A Policy" of: APPEASEMENT, ACQUIESCENCE, ACCOMMODATION and ADHERENCE!
The operative question is, "What shall our people do about it?" Belizeans must not only demonstrate our disgust, via action, but it is imperative to that we also hold ALL elected officials who, through their own willful negligence, have allowed this travesty to occur. The immediate principles that come to mind include: the Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of National Security and all subordinate Ministers of State who have acted in consort with these individuals (spanning both the UDP and PUP), for in my mind they are all culpable. In keeping with the reality of collective responsibility, the PM's ENTIRE CABINET should also be held accountable, as well.
On the economic front, Belizeans should BOYCOTT ALL GUATEMALAN PRODUCTS and cease and desist from spending our hard-earned money in Melchur de Mencos, Guatemala. It is time we take a serious stand.
I call on civil society and the unions to do their part in such efforts, for today it is not only Sarstoon Island, but also access to our very own Sarstoon River! Tomorrow, it may be an outlying border area near you!
The bottom line is that our nation has been betrayed by listless, impotent political panderers and unless the people stand-up, Guatemala's aggression shall continue to be facilitated.
As a proud people of the sovereign nation-state of Belize, we cannot allow this to persist.
I invite one and all to visit the Belize Progressive Party's website -www.belizeprogressiveparty.org - and join the fight to regain complete sovereignty over the full 8,867 square miles of Belizean territory!

The Spratleys are a disputed group of more than 750 reefs， islets， atolls， cays and islands claimed by four other countries， including Vietnam and the Philippines.
Although the statement from China′s foreign ministry gave no details on precisely where the U.S. ship went，... an unnamed U.S. defense official told Reuters on Tuesday， the USS Lassen sailed within 12 nautical miles， or 20 kilometers of China′s manmade islands in the South China Sea.
The Pentagon has thus far declined to comment but had previously said that the patrols are within its rights of free navigation and are routine.
Twelve nautical miles around a territory is internationally recognized as sovereign waters， but the U.S. does not recognize the manmade islands as China′s sovereign territory.
Washington says the construction of artificial islands on submerged reefs does not entitle a country to claim a territorial limit.
Even though Washington does not recognize the islands as Chinese territory， this will be the first time the U.S. has breached the 12－mile nautical limit since China began building up the islands in 2013.
China has long stood firm on its claim to the islands，... saying it would ″never allow any country″ to violate its territorial waters and airspace in the area.
U.S. experts in China caution against further escalation，... as Washington could launch another patrol near the artificial islands in the coming weeks.

Under the United Nations Law of the Sea Convention, a navy ship can may pass within 12 nautical miles of territory without conducting military operations, this is known as "innocent passage."
The U.S. Navy plans to conduct such a maneuver near the Spratly Islands — to signal it doesn't recognise China's absolute claim on the area.
China's South China Sea claim is also contested by Brunei, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Taiwan, countries whose 200 nautical mile exclusive economic zones overlap with China's Claim. The U.S. says it wants to support free passage per international law.
U.S. Pacific Fleet commander Admiral Scott Swift told the New York Times that Washington does not recognize any of China's territorial claims in the area.

We recently traveled to Cyprus to learn more about why the largest massacre of songbirds anywhere in the world is happening on British sovereign territory.
Dhekelia, one of two areas on the island retained by the British after Cypriot independence, became the host of industrial-scale bird trapping after Cyprus joined the European Union in 2004. Local authorities were forced to bring the country in line with European laws, but criminals seeking to profit from the illegal trade continue to supply the country's restaurants from the sovereign base area.
We met agonized locals who are dismayed that their tradition of trapping birds has been outlawed, and then—to see both sides of the story—joined up with a team of European activists who document the scale of trapping and disrupt the poachers’ traps at night.

Norway also lays claim to a section of Antarctica known as Queen Maud Land. Until 1814, the Kingdom included the Faroe Islands (since 1035), Greenland (1261), and Iceland (1262). It also included Shetland and Orkney until 1468.
Norway has a total area of 385,252 square kilometres (148,747 sq mi) and a population of 5,109,059 people (2014). The country shares a long eastern border with Sweden (1,619 km or 1,006 mi long). Norway is bordered by Finland and Russia to the north-east, and the Skagerrak Strait to the south, with Denmark on the other side. Norway has an extensive coastline, facing the North Atlantic Ocean and the Barents Sea.
King Harald V of the German House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg is the current King of Norway. Erna Solberg became Prime Minister in 2013, replacing Jens Stoltenberg. A constitutional monarchy, Norway divides state power between the Parliament, the Cabinet, and the Supreme Court, as determined by the 1814 Constitution. The Kingdom is established as a merger of several petty kingdoms. By the traditional count from the year 872 the Kingdom has existed continuously for 1,144 years, and the list of Norwegian monarchs includes over sixty kings and earls.
Norway has both administrative and political subdivisions on two levels: counties and municipalities. The Sámi people have a certain amount of self-determination and influence over traditional territories through the Sámi Parliament and the Finnmark Act. Norway maintains close ties with the European Union and the United States. Norway is a founding member of the United Nations, NATO, the Council of Europe, the Antarctic Treaty and the Nordic Council; a member of the European Economic Area, the WTO and the OECD; and is also a part of the Schengen Area.
The country maintains a combination of market economy and a Nordic welfare model with universal health care and a comprehensive social security system. Norway has extensive reserves of petroleum, natural gas, minerals, lumber, seafood, fresh water, and hydropower. The petroleum industry accounts for around a quarter of the country's gross domestic product. The country has the fourth-highest per capita income in the world on the World Bank and IMF lists, as well as ninth-highest on a more comprehensive CIA list. On a per-capita basis, it is the world's largest producer of oil and natural gas outside the Middle East.
