William Mervyn (3 January 1912 – 6 August 1976) was an English actor best known for his portrayal of the bishop in the clerical comedy All Gas and Gaiters and the old gentleman in The Railway Children.
Mervyn was born in Nairobi, British East Africa, but educated in Britain before embarking on a stage career, spending five years in provincial theatre. He made his West End debut in The Guinea Pig at the Criterion Theatre in 1946, before parts in plays such as Lend Me Robin at the Embassy Theatre, the comedy Ring Round the Moon, The Mortimer Touch, A Woman of No Importance by Oscar Wilde at the Savoy Theatre in 1953 and Charley's Aunt.
Mervyn's later stage roles included those of O'Trigger in The Rivals, Lord Greenham in the comedy Aren't We All? and Sir Patrick Cullen in The Doctor's Dilemma. Although he was admired in the theatre, it was with television that he became really well known. One of his first major small screen roles was Sir Hector in the 1962 series Saki. Four years later, he played the Bishop of St. Ogg's in the comedy series All Gas and Gaiters. It was, at that time, breaking with tradition, allowing a laugh at the expense of the established church.
William Holden (April 17, 1918 – November 12, 1981) was an American actor who was one of the biggest box office draws of the 1950s through the 1970s. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1953 for his role in Stalag 17, and a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor for his role in the 1973 television film The Blue Knight.
Holden starred in some of Hollywood's most popular and critically acclaimed films, including such blockbusters as Sunset Boulevard, Sabrina, The Bridge on the River Kwai, The Wild Bunch, Picnic, The Towering Inferno, and Network. He was named one of the "Top 10 Stars of the Year" six times (1954–1958, 1961), and appeared as 25th on the American Film Institute's list of 25 greatest male stars of Classic Hollywood Cinema.
Holden was born William Franklin Beedle, Jr. in O'Fallon, Illinois, the son of Mary Blanche (née Ball; 1898-1990), a schoolteacher, and William Franklin Beedle, Sr. (1891-1967), an industrial chemist. He had two younger brothers, Robert and Richard. Holden's paternal great-grandmother, Rebecca Westfield, was born in England in 1817, while some of his mother's ancestors settled in Virginia's Lancaster County after emigrating from England in the 17th century. His younger brother, Robert W. "Bobbie" Beedle, became a U.S. Navy fighter pilot and was killed in action in World War II, over New Ireland, on January 5, 1944.

Special guests: William Holden, Frances Bergen, and Mervyn LeRoy. Jack introduces Holden, Bergen, and LeRoy in the audience, and has Frances come on stage and talk about a film offer she's had. When she tells Jack that the reason he doesn't get drama roles is that he has no sex appeal, he tries to prove her wrong by improvising a lame love scene with her. Holden comes onstage to show Jack how it's done; after a kiss from Holden, Bergen goes limp.

Orange Order grand chaplain Mervyn Gibson expressed his concern on Saturday during the Orange Order repeat parade about the violence incidents sparked on July 12 lasting for 5 nights in Belfast. Gibson condemned the violence and assured that the Order is not responsible for the incidents and that their aim was to hold peaceful demonstrations: "Absolutely, we always intend a peaceful protest, and that is what we've had today." He commented, "I think the crisis was brought around by the Parades Commission and I have to say firmly we're not out of that crisis yet but I think people overreacted to what was said. I think it was harsh words said afterwards, there was finger pointing and blame but now we showed what we tried to achieve which to be honest it wasn't achievable at the end of the d...
