MY THOUGHTS ON THE FILM 'Lord of the Manor' was my attempt to do a good-old-fashioned period piece, and to try to tell a compact, character-driven story. Some things worked, and some definitely didn't. Let's get right to it. CONS: - The script really isn't very good. Writing has never been my strong suit, and that became increasingly clear as I was editing the film. It's too expositional, too long-winded, and too dry. Characters aren't set up very well either. It's kinda boring, really. - A lack of proper rehearsal time (my own fault) resulting in uncertain and sometimes wooden performances. I only had three rehearsals, and I should have known better. The guys gave it their all, but the burden of line memorization on David especially (as "The Man") was way too much. I didn't adequately prepare the cast, and I take full responsibility for that. It's amazing they did as well as they did with what they were given. - Due to a few technical SNAFU's on set, ALL dialogue and sound had to be re-recorded. The ADR (Additional Dialogue Recording) often doesn't sound that good. I'm fairly proud of the foley work though (sound effects such as footsteps, pencils writing, etc.) PROS: - I am very proud of the cinematography. I couldn't have asked for a more appropriate day either, foggy and overcast. Lighting was even, with no obnoxious shadows or glaringly bright skies. This is the best aspect of the film, I believe. - Although it doesn't always work, I am fairly happy with the music.
