Victoria Rowell
Victoria Lynn Rowell (born May 10, 1959) is an American actress, writer, producer and dancer.
Rowell began her career as ballet dancer and model, before making acting debut in the 1987 comedy film, Leonard Part 6. In 1990, Rowell joined the cast of the CBS daytime soap opera, The Young and the Restless as Drucilla Winters, her signature and longest role on television, for which she was nominated for three Daytime Emmy Awards. She departed from the show in 2007. Rowell is also well known for her role as Dr. Amanda Bentley in the CBS medical crime drama Diagnosis: Murder (1993-2001). From 1993 to 2000, she appeared on both series simultaneously.
Rowell has had a number of roles in feature films. She starred alongside Eddie Murphy in the 1992 comedy The Distinguished Gentleman, and later had roles in films Dumb and Dumber (1994), Barb Wire (1996), and Eve's Bayou (1997). Rowell is an eleven time NAACP Image Awards winner (for "Young and the Restless").
Early life
Rowell was born in Portland, Maine, on May 10, 1959. Her biological mother, Dorothy Rowell, was of English descent and a Mayflower descendant, and her birth father, whose surname was Wilson, was of African-American descent. Rowell knew very little about her father. Dorothy, who suffered from schizophrenia, took a taxi to a hospital to give birth to Rowell, leaving a son and two small daughters unsupervised. When she was 16 days old, Rowell, along with her two sisters, Sheree and Lori, was surrendered to child services.

Emmy-nominated actress and author Victoria Rowell was the special guest of the MSU Libraries on Friday, November 2, 2007, as she signed and read from her new book, The Women Who Raised Me: A Memoir, That began at 10:00am in Mitchell Memorial Library’s John Grisham Room.
Winner of eleven NAACP Image Awards, Rowell has starred in numerous theatrical and television productions including “Diagnosis Murder,” “The Cosby Show,” and “The Young and the Restless.” Raised in foster care for 18 years, Rowell is an active advocate for foster children, founding in 1990 the Rowell Foster Children’s Positive Plan (RFCPP), a program created to give aid to families and children in many areas, including fine arts, higher education and healthcare.
Rowell appeared for this special presentation and reading at MSU Libraries in conjunction with the SonEdna Foundation of Charleston, MS. Created by the husband and wife team of Morgan Freeman and Myrna Colley-Lee, the SonEdna Foundation presents great literature by writers from across the country, seeking to build on Mississippi’s strong literary tradition to support literacy and to enhance the cultural opportunities of the Delta region. Since its inception in 2006, the SonEdna Foundation has presented over a dozen writers, drawing audience members from as far away as New Orleans and Atlanta.
While at MSU Libraries, Rowell announced the kick-off of Loose Change for Change, a fundraising effort she’s creating to benefit children interested in the Arts. Loose Change for Change is a grassroots philanthropic effort to encourage students to support the arts, with the thought that no matter how small the donation the outcome will be great and will benefit everyone. The idea for Loose Change for Change stemmed from students at a private school’s putting together their loose change to help an underprivileged child take piano lessons. The students raised $1,500 dollars, and to show his appreciation the child performed a recital for the school.
MSU Libraries will be accepting donations to Loose Change for Change at least through March, which is Youth in the Arts Month.

Although CBS Corp. and Sony Pictures couldn't quite put an end to former Young and the Restless star Victoria Rowell's lawsuit for refusing to revive her role as Drucilla Barber Winters, the entertainment companies did get a judge on Tuesday to dismiss her claims for now. Rowell is attempting to sue for retaliation.
