The Blizzard of 1966

The weekend before the storm, my husband Kermit and the kids, Randy (age 5) and Connie (16 months) built a snowman on the east side of our trailer house. We traveled on road construction during the summer and parked by my parents (Harvey & Helen Kennedy) farm home in the winter. The farm is located at the intersection of 10th St and 12 Avenue SE on Granger Hill, south of the I-94 overpass.
We had warning of a storm coming, so we were stocked up on bottle gas, fuel oil, and food. When the storm hit, my aunt Rose Artis and her son Harvey (Joe) from Sanborn were stranded at my folks home. We were doing fine, playing cards with Rose and Dad and waiting out the storm.
Friday, evening, Connie began fussing and running a fever. Our trailer was 8 wide and 42 long, so there wasnt much living room. Kermit decided to go out to a storage building and get our folding lawn chair rocker for me to rock Connie. While he was gone, Connie went into convulsions and her eyes rolled to the top of her head. I thought she was going to die! Luckily, the phone was still working and I was able to contact our doctor. He contacted the hospital and the ambulance, and they contacted the highway department. When Kermit came back, he walked out to the over pass and came back saying it was blocked nearly to the top.
Ted Curtis, ambulance owner, kept in touch with us. Several doctors lived near the hospital, so help was there if we could get there. One option was to get a snowmobile across the highway and come to the trailer, but they wanted to avoid that. John Windish from the county highway department thought the underpass could be opened and get permission to use the first 4-wheel drive tractor we had ever seen, which had been delivered early to the Winter Show grounds. Other help was rounded up, and the ambulance came across the then vacant field south of the underpass and took Connie and me to the hospital. We crossed Granger Hill to the west over to Hilltop Café and took the ambulance route to the hospital.
A number of people were stranded at the hospital, luckily the cafeteria staff too! Ladies who had been at the Gift Shop were stranded also. The nurses gave us sheets and blankets to put on top of the bedspreads of vacant beds.
Kermit walked into town Saturday and Sunday to see us, sometimes in snow up to his waist. I walked uptown on Sunday to buy a paper and crews were busy cleaning the streets. I finally got home on Monday to find Dads yard and windbreak full of snow, including the area where his large bottle gas tank was buried! The tractor and loader were buried literally in his large garage, which unfortunately didnt have a door. Luckily for us, Joe was there to help shovel.
One area didnt need shoveling out. There on the east side of the trailer, was the snowman, standing undamaged by the storm!
A rare Veronica Lake film from 1966. It is a budget film, which was made in Quebec, Canada. Since it was made in Quebec (French-speaking area of Canada) I highly doubt that the film was released in English.This was originally uploaded by another user however the movie was then taken off public viewing and put on private. There is no subtitles to the film and unfortunately the film is in French but anyway enjoy!

"April 1966 in Vietnam
Cu Chi - the 25th Infantry div launch Operation Kahala on April 16, 1966; a search & destroy mission. APCs move across a rice paddy and a soldier returns enemy fire. The soldiers reach deserted enemy positions and search the tunnels. A forward command position is formed and captured enemy rice and materiel is inventoried. On April 17 the APCs continue the sweep and enter a village and more tunnels are searched. Villagers proclaim ignorance of Viet Cong activities. No young men are found in village. Propaganda signs are found in a nearby bunker. One VC is captured, interrogated and fed. A tunnel is investigated. The next day another village is searched. Viet Cong uniforms are found in some brush. New tunnels are searched. The troops burn some dwellings and move on. On the 5th day, an additional village is searched and several armed Viet Cong guerrillas are captured.
Bien Hoa - Huey Helicopters participate in Operation Green Eagle on April 5, 1966. Several helicopters are hit by enemy fire. SVA troops board the helicopters. Back at Bien Hoa the helicopters are inspected by aviation mechanics for damage.
Bien Hoa - The 173d Airborne have devised a new method of deploying mortars: mortar aerial delivery. On April 5, 1966 81mm shells are loaded onto a UH-1D helicopter and dropped onto Viet Cong positions.
Chief of Staff Inspection Tour - On April 14, 1966 General Harold Keith Johnson begins a Far East tour in Korea. General Dwight E. Beach joins him to meet with Korean President Park Chung-hee the next day. The General confers with Brig General Robert B. Smith at Camp Casey. He views a ROK karate demonstration. On April 16, he speaks with the 2nd Inf Division then KMAG. An award is given to a member of the 55th Aviation Company. The General surveys Pusan Harbor. The General and wife leave Korea via Kempo Air Base and arrive in Okinawa, where they attend church the next day. He also gives out awards and decorations and leaves for Vietnam. He visits Cu Chi with Major General Jonathan O. Seaman and spends time with the 25th Division. He speaks about Operation Helping Hand and is briefed on Operation Kahala.
Bang Pu, Thailand - on April 15, 1966 an ARPA truck mobility test is undertaken by the US Army and Thai army. During the wet season, mobility is impaired. Tire types, sizes & number are tested in muddy conditions. Terra tires perform the best.
Bangkok-Cholbari, Thailand - At The Thailand Armed Forces Preparatory School Thai Armed forces are given English tests on April 20, 1966 for CONUS training at Fort Leavenworth. There is an English language lab at the school. At Cholbari the Royal Thai Army "Little Tiger" unit will be UN replacement troops. They demonstrate M-60 machine guns.
Santo Domingo & San Cristobal, Dominican Republic - CARE typhoid serum arrives in mid-April, 1966 at Santo Domingo Airport, destined for the National Hospital in San Cristobal. (Where there is an epidemic.) The serum is transported by an US Army helicopter and arrives at the 82nd Airborne camp in San Cristobal. At the Army base it is turned over to Dominican hosptal authorities. The Army also donated 1,000 doses of typhoid serum. The US Navy is also donating water tanks and the US Army will establish pure water points for the citizens of San Cristobal. The city's ancient water system is believed to be the cause of the epidemic. A tank is shown being installed. Water is delivered around the clock by the Army; delivery to rebel sections can be dangerous and are defaced with "Yanqui Go Home!" but the water is welcomed anyway.
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic - April 24, 1966 is the 1 year anniversary of the revolt. Thousands demonstrate with anti-American slogans. On June 1, 1966 elections will be held. A radio station is being constructed by the US Army to provide election results. This will be the first democratic elections since 1962. There is also an AFRTS station in Santo Domingo. It is the only Armed Forces Station broadcasting in 4 languages."

Pleiku-Kontam Provinces - April 11, 1966: a ground control officer supervises the loading of U-H1D 1st Cavalry Divion as they deploy on a search & destroy mission Operation Mosby. They arrive at LZ Kim and LZ Amy near the Cambodian Border. At LZ Kim a perimeter defense is set up and a second wave arrives once it has been secured. This will be a secure base for the surrounding patrol troops. Ambushes are set up along the border, but the patrols were routine. After 3 days, the units pulled back & troops boarded Hueys to arrive at LZ Jones. A considerable amount of VC Equipment.
On April 20, the 2nd phase of the operation began in an area new to US Forces. M-102 Howitzers are shown in action.
April 21, 1966 the operation continues, and a VC guerilla is captured, fed and interrogated. He points out an area where VC may be located.
April 23, 1966 A patrol finds 1,000 pounds of rice, an apparent abandoned village, and punji sticks.
April 24, 1966 report: no significant contact with enemy over the 4 days.
Song Be Area: an Cessna O-1 flies over the province and drops surrender leaflets as part of Operation Denver by the 173d Airborne Brigade. Ground troops at a Michelin Rubber plantation are fired upon by snipers and a firefight begins. After it ends, they discover an abandoned village. At HQ, Brigadier Generals Harold K Johnson & Paul K Smith meet.
Quang Xuyen - on April 23, 1966 a river patrol boat travels with an adviser to the new outpost down the river. The outpost provides security for the Long Tau River.
Bien Hoa - April 11, 1965 helicopters are being prepared for the mission of the day. They are supporting AVRN special forces Operation Exodus. The experimental XM-31 armament system will be used for the first time in Vietnam. The helicopters take off to prepare a Landing Zone for assault.
Qui Nhon - On April 16, 1966 USNS General John Pope delivers 3500 Korea troops. The ROK Troops are attached to the ROK Tiger Division.
Medal of Honor Ceremony (Posthumous) The White House - On April 21, 1966 the Medal of Honor is awarded by LBJ to Milton E. Olive III [SIC - Milton L. Olive, III] in the White House Rose Garden. He threw himself on a live grenade. His father received the medal from President Johnson.
Tan Son Nhut - Pleiku A master control station for the Decca navigation system is being built. It's a radio navaid, which will cover Central Vietnam. (There is an existing station in the southern part of the country.) Technicians plot topography by hand. Systems are installed in the console of 2 U-H1B helicopters and the antenna is installed underneath. The display console prints in the cockpit. A helicopter makes a test flight and the Decca system is shown up-close, plotting a map.
I.W.C.S Sites - A radio relay station, the Integrated Wideband Communications System, is being constructed in South Vietnam. The US Army Strategic Communications Command operates the network. Farther North, in Nhatrang, another tropo scatter network is operated from a van. It can handle voice, data and message transmission. At Pleiku, a new IWCS terminal is installing large fuel storage facilities for the network''s generators. Another tropospheric scatter network is at Da Nang. Antenna foundations are being built. MPs at the Phu Lam facility are shown inspecting vehicles before they are allowed entry to the base.
Panmunjam, Korea - April 23, 1966 US Marine Maj. Gen. Joseph O. Butcher has his first Military Armistice meeting (UNMAC) as Senior Representative of the UN Command. The North Koreans accuse them of armistice misconduct. Butcher counters by showing a North Korean propaganda film, which shows Soviet arms being used in North Korea. North Korea moves to adjourn.
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic - The 82nd Airborne at Camp Randall are part of the Ready Force of the IAPF. Military Police are inspected before they patrol parts of the city, including the rebel sector. The patrols are accompanied by Dominican police. A Sgt is interviewed about the security problem. Political slogans for the upcoming June 1 elections are found all over the city.
Sattahip, Thailand - construction is going well on the petroleum fuel tank farm. Engineers install a pipeline on a storage tank. Each tank will hold 10,000 gallons of aircraft fuel.
Bangkok & Prabuddabaht, Thailand - the provincial hospital is studying malaria. Animal experimentation (gibbons) is used. Lab techs elsewhere conduct tests on specimens. The US works with Thailand via Walter Reed Hospital. An automatic blood analyzer is used.
La Paz, Bolivia - the National Department of Criminal Investigation operates the Valley of Hope for juvenile delinquents. The US Army Mission sees this as a worthwhile off-duty charitable endeavor. They supply needed materiels. The boys learn trades, take classes, and raise food. The US Mission and Bolivian detectives help support the "Bolivian Boy's Town."

"June 1966 in Vietnam
PLEIKU - PLEI ME - Filmed during the 3d week of June, 1966. 25th Infantry Division tanks are filmed as they guard a new forward operating base, Camp Oasis. This is part of Operation Paul Revere. Tank crews scan the countryside for trouble and helicopters land to resupply and at the mouth of a river, an artillery crew sets up. The howitzer will be used to help prepare a new landing zone.
Operation Paul Revere is a search & destroy operation and it began on May 10, 1966. When the artillery work ends, 25th Infantry troops begin to sweep the area.
There is a village a short distance from the camp and civic action teams perform medical care for the villagers. Many of the children are malnourished. At another village, soldiers distribute tools, which include saws. Clothing, which had been collected in Hawaii, is also distributed. "The women clamor happily over the clothing bonanza."
On June 21, 1966 Vietnamese Armed Forces Heroes Day is celebrated at Pleiku HQ. Major General Stanley R. Larsen the Commanding General, Field Force, Vietnam observes. A Vietnamese General gives medals to some US Army soldiers for bravery during Operation Paul Revere.
TUY HOA - On June 2, 1966 soldiers clean a 155mm howitzer. It had been used overnight in support of the 101st Airborne. They are ready when a radio call arrives requesting artillery support.
VUNG TAU - An Army air traffic control company sets up a portable ground approach tower TPN-18 at the Vung Tau Air Field. A technical representative from the manufacturer assists. It has a TPN-8 radar antenna and an IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) Antenna. It works by transmitting coded radar signals to all aircraft. Friendly aircraft have transponders which decode this signal and broadcast an appropriate ID response.
BIEN HOA - An ARC-122 radio has been installed in an UH-1B helicopter, which allows a division commander to communication with his troops during operations. It was developed to overcome limitations in communications due to terrain and has been in use for 3 years. Another radio is being installed in a command & control helicopter at Bien Hoa Air Station. The ASC-6 radio unit has 3 types of radios, for AM & FM operation. It will be used by field commanders during operations to call in air and artillery strikes, & control troop and helicopter movements.
TAN SON NHUT - At Camp Gaylor there was a celebration of the 106th Anniversary of the US Army Signal Corps. Commander Lt Colonel Charles R. Meyer presents distinguished service awards. (69th Signal Battalion)
TUY HOA - May 25,1966 Army civic action personnel met at an orphanage to distribute aid donated by the exchange club in San Pablo, California. An US serviceman also donated 200 washcloths for the children. The Catholic Church operates the orphanage. The civic action also distributed presents to children at a Buddhist orphanage.
SAIGON - June 19, 1966 Vietnamese Armed Fores Day celebrations are held at Tan Son Nhut air base. Prime Minister Nyen and Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge attend. Speeches, medals, wreath-laying, parade, ARVN airborne troops, plane fly-over.
SATTAHIP-THAILAND - An ammo and cargo pier is being built as of June 21, 1966 is almost complete. It is part of a petroleum tank farm that is under construction. Tankers will use the pier, which connects to the tanks via a pipeline. A pipeline crew connects pipe and a gate valve installed.
SANTO-DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC - A floating bridge built by Army Engineers will be maintained by Dominican Forces in the future. Ft. Benning, Georgia instructors are teaching Dominicans in maintenance techniques & the students practice with floating sections of pontoon bridge.
VALLEY FORGE, PENNSYLVANIA - On May 30, 1966 General Harold K. Johnson flew to Valley Forge to address a Memorial Day assembly. Helicopter lands. He speaks about patriotism and the armed forces, and Vietnam."

Suresh falls in love with Madhumati (Bhawariya). He cooks up a wicked plot. He writes two letters to each of the families. Shankar comes to know that Madhumati is Bhawariya, the girl whom he used to love. In a rift between Shankar & Suresh, Suresh dies accidentally for which Shankar is held the culprit. Madumati who is determined to see her husband's murderer hanged, changes her words & saves Shankar.

"April 1966 in Vietnam Cu Chi - the 25th Infantry div launch Operation Kahala on April 16, 1966; a search & destroy mission. APCs move across a rice paddy and a soldier returns enemy fire. The soldiers reach deserted enemy positions and search the tunnels. A forward command position is formed and captured enemy rice and materiel is inventoried. On April 17 the APCs continue the sweep and enter a village and more tunnels are searched. Villagers proclaim ignorance of Viet Cong activities. No young men are found in village. Propaganda signs are found in a nearby bunker. One VC is captured, interrogated and fed. A tunnel is investigated. The next day another village is searched. Viet Cong uniforms are found in some brush. New tunnels are searched. The troops burn some dwellings and move on. On the 5th day, an additional village is searched and several armed Viet Cong guerrillas are captured. Bien Hoa - Huey Helicopters participate in Operation Green Eagle on April 5, 1966. Several helicopters are hit by enemy fire. SVA troops board the helicopters. Back at Bien Hoa the helicopters are inspected by aviation mechanics for damage. Bien Hoa - The 173d Airborne have devised a new method of deploying mortars: mortar aerial delivery. On April 5, 1966 81mm shells are loaded onto a UH-1D helicopter and dropped onto Viet Cong positions. Chief of Staff Inspection Tour - On April 14, 1966 General Harold Keith Johnson begins a Far East tour in Korea. General Dwight E. Beach joins him to meet with Korean President Park Chung-hee the next day. The General confers with Brig General Robert B. Smith at Camp Casey. He views a ROK karate demonstration. On April 16, he speaks with the 2nd Inf Division then KMAG. An award is given to a member of the 55th Aviation Company. The General surveys Pusan Harbor. The General and wife leave Korea via Kempo Air Base and arrive in Okinawa, where they attend church the next day. He also gives out awards and decorations and leaves for Vietnam. He visits Cu Chi with Major General Jonathan O. Seaman and spends time with the 25th Division. He speaks about Operation Helping Hand and is briefed on Operation Kahala. Bang Pu, Thailand - on April 15, 1966 an ARPA truck mobility test is undertaken by the US Army and Thai army. During the wet season, mobility is impaired. Tire types, sizes & number are tested in muddy conditions. Terra tires perform the best. Bangkok-Cholbari, Thailand - At The Thailand Armed Forces Preparatory School Thai Armed forces are given English tests on April 20, 1966 for CONUS training at Fort Leavenworth. There is an English language lab at the school. At Cholbari the Royal Thai Army "Little Tiger" unit will be UN replacement troops. They demonstrate M-60 machine guns. Santo Domingo & San Cristobal, Dominican Republic - CARE typhoid serum arrives in mid-April, 1966 at Santo Domingo Airport, destined for the National Hospital in San Cristobal. (Where there is an epidemic.) The serum is transported by an US Army helicopter and arrives at the 82nd Airborne camp in San Cristobal. At the Army base it is turned over to Dominican hosptal authorities. The Army also donated 1,000 doses of typhoid serum. The US Navy is also donating water tanks and the US Army will establish pure water points for the citizens of San Cristobal. The city's ancient water system is believed to be the cause of the epidemic. A tank is shown being installed. Water is delivered around the clock by the Army; delivery to rebel sections can be dangerous and are defaced with "Yanqui Go Home!" but the water is welcomed anyway. Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic - April 24, 1966 is the 1 year anniversary of the revolt. Thousands demonstrate with anti-American slogans. On June 1, 1966 elections will be held. A radio station is being constructed by the US Army to provide election results. This will be the first democratic elections since 1962. There is also an AFRTS station in Santo Domingo. It is the only Armed Forces Station broadcasting in 4 languages." "April 1966 in Vietnam Pleiku-Kontam Provinces - April 11, 1966: a ground control officer supervises the loading of U-H1D 1st Cavalry Divion as they deploy on a search & destroy mission Operation Mosby. They arrive at LZ Kim and LZ Amy near the Cambodian Border. At LZ Kim a perimeter defense is set up and a second wave arrives once it has been secured. This will be a secure base for the surrounding patrol troops. Ambushes are set up along the border, but the patrols were routine. After 3 days, the units pulled back & troops boarded Hueys to arrive at LZ Jones. A considerable amount of VC Equipment. On April 20, the 2nd phase of the operation began in an area new to US Forces. M-102 Howitzers are shown in action. April 21, 1966 the operation continues, and a VC guerilla is captured, fed and interrogated. He points out an area where VC may be located. April 23, 1966 A patrol finds 1,000 pounds of rice, an apparent abandoned village, and punji sticks. April 24, 1966 report: no significant contact with enemy over the 4 days. Song Be Area: an Cessna O-1 flies over the province and drops surrender leaflets as part of Operation Denver by the 173d Airborne Brigade. Ground troops at a Michelin Rubber plantation are fired upon by snipers and a firefight begins. After it ends, they discover an abandoned village. At HQ, Brigadier Generals Harold K Johnson & Paul K Smith meet. Quang Xuyen - on April 23, 1966 a river patrol boat travels with an adviser to the new outpost down the river. The outpost provides security for the Long Tau River. Bien Hoa - April 11, 1965 helicopters are being prepared for the mission of the day. They are supporting AVRN special forces Operation Exodus. The experimental XM-31 armament system will be used for the first time in Vietnam. The helicopters take off to prepare a Landing Zone for assault. Qui Nhon - On April 16, 1966 USNS General John Pope delivers 3500 Korea troops. The ROK Troops are attached to the ROK Tiger Division. Medal of Honor Ceremony (Posthumous) The White House - On April 21, 1966 the Medal of Honor is awarded by LBJ to Milton E. Olive III [SIC - Milton L. Olive, III] in the White House Rose Garden. He threw himself on a live grenade. His father received the medal from President Johnson. Tan Son Nhut - Pleiku A master control station for the Decca navigation system is being built. It's a radio navaid, which will cover Central Vietnam. (There is an existing station in the southern part of the country.) Technicians plot topography by hand. Systems are installed in the console of 2 U-H1B helicopters and the antenna is installed underneath. The display console prints in the cockpit. A helicopter makes a test flight and the Decca system is shown up-close, plotting a map. I.W.C.S Sites - A radio relay station, the Integrated Wideband Communications System, is being constructed in South Vietnam. The US Army Strategic Communications Command operates the network. Farther North, in Nhatrang, another tropo scatter network is operated from a van. It can handle voice, data and message transmission. At Pleiku, a new IWCS terminal is installing large fuel storage facilities for the network''s generators. Another tropospheric scatter network is at Da Nang. Antenna foundations are being built. MPs at the Phu Lam facility are shown inspecting vehicles before they are allowed entry to the base. Panmunjam, Korea - April 23, 1966 US Marine Maj. Gen. Joseph O. Butcher has his first Military Armistice meeting (UNMAC) as Senior Representative of the UN Command. The North Koreans accuse them of armistice misconduct. Butcher counters by showing a North Korean propaganda film, which shows Soviet arms being used in North Korea. North Korea moves to adjourn. Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic - The 82nd Airborne at Camp Randall are part of the Ready Force of the IAPF. Military Police are inspected before they patrol parts of the city, including the rebel sector. The patrols are accompanied by Dominican police. A Sgt is interviewed about the security problem. Political slogans for the upcoming June 1 elections are found all over the city. Sattahip, Thailand - construction is going well on the petroleum fuel tank farm. Engineers install a pipeline on a storage tank. Each tank will hold 10,000 gallons of aircraft fuel. Bangkok & Prabuddabaht, Thailand - the provincial hospital is studying malaria. Animal experimentation (gibbons) is used. Lab techs elsewhere conduct tests on specimens. The US works with Thailand via Walter Reed Hospital. An automatic blood analyzer is used. La Paz, Bolivia - the National Department of Criminal Investigation operates the Valley of Hope for juvenile delinquents. The US Army Mission sees this as a worthwhile off-duty charitable endeavor. They supply needed materiels. The boys learn trades, take classes, and raise food. The US Mission and Bolivian detectives help support the "Bolivian Boy's Town." "June 1966 in Vietnam PLEIKU - PLEI ME - Filmed during the 3d week of June, 1966. 25th Infantry Division tanks are filmed as they guard a new forward operating base, Camp Oasis. This is part of Operation Paul Revere. Tank crews scan the countryside for trouble and helicopters land to resupply and at the mouth of a river, an artillery crew sets up. The howitzer will be used to help prepare a new landing zone. Operation Paul Revere is a search & destroy operation and it began on May 10, 1966. When the artillery work ends, 25th Infantry troops begin to sweep the area. There is a village a short distance from the camp and civic action teams perform medical care for the villagers. Many of the children are malnourished. At another village, soldiers distribute tools, which include saws. Clothing, which had been collected in Hawaii, is also distributed. "The women clamor happily over the clothing bonanza." On June 21, 1966 Vietnamese Armed Forces Heroes Day is celebrated at Pleiku HQ. Major General Stanley R. Larsen the Commanding General, Field Force, Vietnam observes. A Vietnamese General gives medals to some US Army soldiers for bravery during Operation Paul Revere. TUY HOA - On June 2, 1966 soldiers clean a 155mm howitzer. It had been used overnight in support of the 101st Airborne. They are ready when a radio call arrives requesting artillery support. VUNG TAU - An Army air traffic control company sets up a portable ground approach tower TPN-18 at the Vung Tau Air Field. A technical representative from the manufacturer assists. It has a TPN-8 radar antenna and an IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) Antenna. It works by transmitting coded radar signals to all aircraft. Friendly aircraft have transponders which decode this signal and broadcast an appropriate ID response. BIEN HOA - An ARC-122 radio has been installed in an UH-1B helicopter, which allows a division commander to communication with his troops during operations. It was developed to overcome limitations in communications due to terrain and has been in use for 3 years. Another radio is being installed in a command & control helicopter at Bien Hoa Air Station. The ASC-6 radio unit has 3 types of radios, for AM & FM operation. It will be used by field commanders during operations to call in air and artillery strikes, & control troop and helicopter movements. TAN SON NHUT - At Camp Gaylor there was a celebration of the 106th Anniversary of the US Army Signal Corps. Commander Lt Colonel Charles R. Meyer presents distinguished service awards. (69th Signal Battalion) TUY HOA - May 25,1966 Army civic action personnel met at an orphanage to distribute aid donated by the exchange club in San Pablo, California. An US serviceman also donated 200 washcloths for the children. The Catholic Church operates the orphanage. The civic action also distributed presents to children at a Buddhist orphanage. SAIGON - June 19, 1966 Vietnamese Armed Fores Day celebrations are held at Tan Son Nhut air base. Prime Minister Nyen and Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge attend. Speeches, medals, wreath-laying, parade, ARVN airborne troops, plane fly-over. SATTAHIP-THAILAND - An ammo and cargo pier is being built as of June 21, 1966 is almost complete. It is part of a petroleum tank farm that is under construction. Tankers will use the pier, which connects to the tanks via a pipeline. A pipeline crew connects pipe and a gate valve installed. SANTO-DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC - A floating bridge built by Army Engineers will be maintained by Dominican Forces in the future. Ft. Benning, Georgia instructors are teaching Dominicans in maintenance techniques & the students practice with floating sections of pontoon bridge. VALLEY FORGE, PENNSYLVANIA - On May 30, 1966 General Harold K. Johnson flew to Valley Forge to address a Memorial Day assembly. Helicopter lands. He speaks about patriotism and the armed forces, and Vietnam." The Blizzard of 1966 By Rachel Kay Sauer The weekend before the storm, my husband Kermit and the kids, Randy (age 5) and Connie (16 months) built a snowman on the east side of our trailer house. We traveled on road construction during the summer and parked by my parents (Harvey & Helen Kennedy) farm home in the winter. The farm is located at the intersection of 10th St and 12 Avenue SE on Granger Hill, south of the I-94 overpass. We had warning of a storm coming, so we were stocked up on bottle gas, fuel oil, and food. When the storm hit, my aunt Rose Artis and her son Harvey (Joe) from Sanborn were stranded at my folks home. A rare Veronica Lake film from 1966. It is a budget film, which was made in Quebec, Canada. Since it was made in Quebec (French-speaking area of Canada) I highly doubt that the film was released in English.This was originally uploaded by another user however the movie was then taken off public viewing and put on private. There is no subtitles to the film and unfortunately the film is in French but anyway enjoy! -

"April 1966 in Vietnam Cu Chi - the 25th Infantry div launch Operation Kahala on April 16, 1966; a search & destroy mission. APCs move across a rice paddy and a soldier returns enemy fire. The soldiers reach deserted enemy positions and search the tunnels. A forward command position is formed and captured enemy rice and materiel is inventoried. On April 17 the APCs continue the sweep and enter a village and more tunnels are searched. Villagers proclaim ignorance of Viet Cong activities. No young men are found in village. This is part of Operation Paul Revere. Tank crews scan the countryside for trouble and helicopters land to resupply and at the mouth of a river, an artillery crew sets up. The howitzer will be used to help prepare a new landing zone. Operation Paul Revere is a search & destroy operation and it began on May 10, 1966. The weekend before the storm, my husband Kermit and the kids, Randy (age 5) and Connie (16 months) built a snowman on the east side of our trailer house. We traveled on road construction during the summer and parked by my parents (Harvey & Helen Kennedy) farm home in the winter. The farm is located at the intersection of 10th St and 12 Avenue SE on Granger Hill, south of the I-94 overpass.
We had warning of a storm coming, so we were stocked up on bottle gas, fuel oil, and food. When the storm hit, my aunt Rose Artis and her son Harvey (Joe) from Sanborn were stranded at my folks home. We were doing fine, playing cards with Rose and Dad and waiting out the storm.
Friday, evening, Connie began fussing and running a fever. Our trailer was 8 wide and 42 long, so there wasnt much living room. Kermit decided to go out to a storage building and get our folding lawn chair rocker for me to rock Connie. While he was gone, Connie went into convulsions and her eyes rolled to the top of her head. I thought she was going to die! Luckily, the phone was still working and I was able to contact our doctor. He contacted the hospital and the ambulance, and they contacted the highway department. When Kermit came back, he walked out to the over pass and came back saying it was blocked nearly to the top.
Ted Curtis, ambulance owner, kept in touch with us. Several doctors lived near the hospital, so help was there if we could get there. One option was to get a snowmobile across the highway and come to the trailer, but they wanted to avoid that. John Windish from the county highway department thought the underpass could be opened and get permission to use the first 4-wheel drive tractor we had ever seen, which had been delivered early to the Winter Show grounds. Other help was rounded up, and the ambulance came across the then vacant field south of the underpass and took Connie and me to the hospital. We crossed Granger Hill to the west over to Hilltop Café and took the ambulance route to the hospital.
A number of people were stranded at the hospital, luckily the cafeteria staff too! Ladies who had been at the Gift Shop were stranded also. The nurses gave us sheets and blankets to put on top of the bedspreads of vacant beds.
Kermit walked into town Saturday and Sunday to see us, sometimes in snow up to his waist. I walked uptown on Sunday to buy a paper and crews were busy cleaning the streets. I finally got home on Monday to find Dads yard and windbreak full of snow, including the area where his large bottle gas tank was buried! The tractor and loader were buried literally in his large garage, which unfortunately didnt have a door. Luckily for us, Joe was there to help shovel.
One area didnt need shoveling out. There on the east side of the trailer, was the snowman, standing undamaged by the storm!

Pleiku-Kontam Provinces - April 11, 1966: a ground control officer supervises the loading of U-H1D 1st Cavalry Divion as they deploy on a search & destroy mission Operation Mosby. They arrive at LZ Kim and LZ Amy near the Cambodian Border. At LZ Kim a perimeter defense is set up and a second wave arrives once it has been secured. This will be a secure base for the surrounding patrol troops. Ambushes are set up along the border, but the patrols were routine. After 3 days, the units pulled back & troops boarded Hueys to arrive at LZ Jones. A considerable amount of VC Equipment.
On April 20, the 2nd phase of the operation began in an area new to US Forces. M-102 Howitzers are shown in action.
April 21, 1966 the operation continues, and a VC guerilla is captured, fed and interrogated. He points out an area where VC may be located.
April 23, 1966 A patrol finds 1,000 pounds of rice, an apparent abandoned village, and punji sticks.
April 24, 1966 report: no significant contact with enemy over the 4 days.
Song Be Area: an Cessna O-1 flies over the province and drops surrender leaflets as part of Operation Denver by the 173d Airborne Brigade. Ground troops at a Michelin Rubber plantation are fired upon by snipers and a firefight begins. After it ends, they discover an abandoned village. At HQ, Brigadier Generals Harold K Johnson & Paul K Smith meet.
Quang Xuyen - on April 23, 1966 a river patrol boat travels with an adviser to the new outpost down the river. The outpost provides security for the Long Tau River.
Bien Hoa - April 11, 1965 helicopters are being prepared for the mission of the day. They are supporting AVRN special forces Operation Exodus. The experimental XM-31 armament system will be used for the first time in Vietnam. The helicopters take off to prepare a Landing Zone for assault.
Qui Nhon - On April 16, 1966 USNS General John Pope delivers 3500 Korea troops. The ROK Troops are attached to the ROK Tiger Division.
Medal of Honor Ceremony (Posthumous) The White House - On April 21, 1966 the Medal of Honor is awarded by LBJ to Milton E. Olive III [SIC - Milton L. Olive, III] in the White House Rose Garden. He threw himself on a live grenade. His father received the medal from President Johnson.

(There is an existing station in the southern part of the country.) Technicians plot topography by hand. Systems are installed in the console of 2 U-H1B helicopters and the antenna is installed underneath. The display console prints in the cockpit. A helicopter makes a test flight and the Decca system is shown up-close, plotting a map.
I.W.C.S Sites - A radio relay station, the Integrated Wideband Communications System, is being constructed in South Vietnam. The US Army Strategic Communications Command operates the network. Farther North, in Nhatrang, another tropo scatter network is operated from a van. It can handle voice, data and message transmission. At Pleiku, a new IWCS terminal is installing large fuel storage facilities for the network''s generators. Another tropospheric scatter network is at Da Nang. Antenna foundations are being built. MPs at the Phu Lam facility are shown inspecting vehicles before they are allowed entry to the base.
Panmunjam, Korea - April 23, 1966 US Marine Maj. Gen. Joseph O. Butcher has his first Military Armistice meeting (UNMAC) as Senior Representative of the UN Command. The North Koreans accuse them of armistice misconduct. Butcher counters by showing a North Korean propaganda film, which shows Soviet arms being used in North Korea. North Korea moves to adjourn.

Sattahip, Thailand - construction is going well on the petroleum fuel tank farm. Engineers install a pipeline on a storage tank. Each tank will hold 10,000 gallons of aircraft fuel.
Bangkok & Prabuddabaht, Thailand - the provincial hospital is studying malaria. Animal experimentation (gibbons) is used. Lab techs elsewhere conduct tests on specimens. The US works with Thailand via Walter Reed Hospital. An automatic blood analyzer is used.
La Paz, Bolivia - the National Department of Criminal Investigation operates the Valley of Hope for juvenile delinquents. The US Army Mission sees this as a worthwhile off-duty charitable endeavor. They supply needed materiels. The boys learn trades, take classes, and raise food. The US Mission and Bolivian detectives help support the "Bolivian Boy's Town."

PLEIKU - PLEI ME - Filmed during the 3d week of June, 1966. 25th Infantry Division tanks are filmed as they guard a new forward operating base, Camp Oasis. This is part of Operation Paul Revere. Tank crews scan the countryside for trouble and helicopters land to resupply and at the mouth of a river, an artillery crew sets up. The howitzer will be used to help prepare a new landing zone.
Operation Paul Revere is a search & destroy operation and it began on May 10, 1966. When the artillery work ends, 25th Infantry troops begin to sweep the area.
There is a village a short distance from the camp and civic action teams perform medical care for the villagers. Many of the children are malnourished. At another village, soldiers distribute tools, which include saws. Clothing, which had been collected in Hawaii, is also distributed. "The women clamor happily over the clothing bonanza."
On June 21, 1966 Vietnamese Armed Forces Heroes Day is celebrated at Pleiku HQ. Major General Stanley R. Larsen the Commanding General, Field Force, Vietnam observes. A Vietnamese General gives medals to some US Army soldiers for bravery during Operation Paul Revere.
TUY HOA - On June 2, 1966 soldiers clean a 155mm howitzer. It had been used overnight in support of the 101st Airborne. They are ready when a radio call arrives requesting artillery support.
VUNG TAU - An Army air traffic control company sets up a portable ground approach tower TPN-18 at the Vung Tau Air Field. A technical representative from the manufacturer assists. It has a TPN-8 radar antenna and an IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) Antenna. It works by transmitting coded radar signals to all aircraft. Friendly aircraft have transponders which decode this signal and broadcast an appropriate ID response.
BIEN HOA - An ARC-122 radio has been installed in an UH-1B helicopter, which allows a division commander to communication with his troops during operations. It was developed to overcome limitations in communications due to terrain and has been in use for 3 years. Another radio is being installed in a command & control helicopter at Bien Hoa Air Station. The ASC-6 radio unit has 3 types of radios, for AM & FM operation. It will be used by field commanders during operations to call in air and artillery strikes, & control troop and helicopter movements.
TAN SON NHUT - At Camp Gaylor there was a celebration of the 106th Anniversary of the US Army Signal Corps. Commander Lt Colonel Charles R. Meyer presents distinguished service awards. (69th Signal Battalion)
TUY HOA - May 25,1966 Army civic action personnel met at an orphanage to distribute aid donated by the exchange club in San Pablo, California. An US serviceman also donated 200 washcloths for the children. The Catholic Church operates the orphanage. The civic action also distributed presents to children at a Buddhist orphanage.
SAIGON - June 19, 1966 Vietnamese Armed Fores Day celebrations are held at Tan Son Nhut air base. Prime Minister Nyen and Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge attend. Speeches, medals, wreath-laying, parade, ARVN airborne troops, plane fly-over.
SATTAHIP-THAILAND - An ammo and cargo pier is being built as of June 21, 1966 is almost complete. It is part of a petroleum tank farm that is under construction. Tankers will use the pier, which connects to the tanks via a pipeline. A pipeline crew connects pipe and a gate valve installed.

"June 1966 in Vietnam
PLEIKU - PLEI ME - Filmed during the 3d week of June, 1966. 25th Infantry Division tanks are filmed as they guard a new forward operating base, Camp Oasis. This is part of Operation Paul Revere. Tank crews scan the countryside for trouble and helicopters land to resupply and at the mouth of a river, an artillery crew sets up. The howitzer will be used to help prepare a new landing zone.
Operation Paul Revere is a search & destroy operation and it began on May 10, 1966. When the artillery work ends, 25th Infantry troops begin to sweep the area.
There is a village a short distance from the camp and civic action teams perform medical care for the villagers. Many of the children are malnourished. At another village, soldiers distribute tools, which include saws. Clothing, which had been collected in Hawaii, is also distributed. "The women clamor happily over the clothing bonanza."
On June 21, 1966 Vietnamese Armed Forces Heroes Day is celebrated at Pleiku HQ. Major General Stanley R. Larsen the Commanding General, Field Force, Vietnam observes. A Vietnamese General gives medals to some US Army soldiers for bravery during Operation Paul Revere.
TUY HOA - On June 2, 1966 soldiers clean a 155mm howitzer. It had been used overnight in support of the 101st Airborne. They are ready when a radio call arrives requesting artillery support.
VUNG TAU - An Army air traffic control company sets up a portable ground approach tower TPN-18 at the Vung Tau Air Field. A technical representative from the manufacturer assists. It has a TPN-8 radar antenna and an IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) Antenna. It works by transmitting coded radar signals to all aircraft. Friendly aircraft have transponders which decode this signal and broadcast an appropriate ID response.
BIEN HOA - An ARC-122 radio has been installed in an UH-1B helicopter, which allows a division commander to communication with his troops during operations. It was developed to overcome limitations in communications due to terrain and has been in use for 3 years. Another radio is being installed in a command & control helicopter at Bien Hoa Air Station. The ASC-6 radio unit has 3 types of radios, for AM & FM operation. It will be used by field commanders during operations to call in air and artillery strikes, & control troop and helicopter movements.
TAN SON NHUT - At Camp Gaylor there was a celebration of the 106th Anniversary of the US Army Signal Corps. Commander Lt Colonel Charles R. Meyer presents distinguished service awards. (69th Signal Battalion)
TUY HOA - May 25,1966 Army civic action personnel met at an orphanage to distribute aid donated by the exchange club in San Pablo, California. An US serviceman also donated 200 washcloths for the children. The Catholic Church operates the orphanage. The civic action also distributed presents to children at a Buddhist orphanage.
SAIGON - June 19, 1966 Vietnamese Armed Fores Day celebrations are held at Tan Son Nhut air base. Prime Minister Nyen and Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge attend. Speeches, medals, wreath-laying, parade, ARVN airborne troops, plane fly-over.
SATTAHIP-THAILAND - An ammo and cargo pier is being built as of June 21, 1966 is almost complete. It is part of a petroleum tank farm that is under construction. Tankers will use the pier, which connects to the tanks via a pipeline. A pipeline crew connects pipe and a gate valve installed.
SANTO-DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC - A floating bridge built by Army Engineers will be maintained by Dominican Forces in the future. Ft. Benning, Georgia instructors are teaching Dominicans in maintenance techniques & the students practice with floating sections of pontoon bridge.

Shankar comes to know that Madhumati is Bhawariya, the girl whom he used to love. In a rift between Shankar & Suresh, Suresh dies accidentally for which Shankar is held the culprit. Madumati who is determined to see her husband's murderer hanged, changes her words & saves Shankar.
